I called for a technician for a small problem with my AC unit. The indoor fan stops blowing after 1 hour or so. With a common error code CH12. The technician came, stayed for 15 minutes or so and simply told me the whole system needs replacement. His diagnostic didn't provide voltages test, whether the indoor motor fan or control board needed replacement. All he wrote was that he was unable to take measurement and that it 'looks' like there are multiple problems. Trying to sell me a new system that's twice what I paid 10 years ago. My air conditioner was not working so I called JCD. They came on July 7 and repaired it. They charged $259.95 for a residential call, plus $170.00 per hour. They installed a Dual Start capacitator for $225.00 and added 2 units of refridgerant for $170.00. My total bill was $1,143.94. A week later the air conditioner stopped working again. I called JCD to tell them and said that as they had just been there I shouldn't have to pay for the residential call again. They refused and said that it was probably a 'different' problem than the one they had repaired. I was not willing to spend another $400. on a company that would not guarantee their repairs, especially after only a week. I think this company overcharges and is dishonest. I was very pleased with my recent JCD service call--as I have been with previous service calls. Not only did the technician check over every aspect of my heat pump system, he explained what he was doing, and also gave me advice on other heaters, and filters. He was polite, clear, and easy to talk with. I am surprised to read that other people had "rude and unprofessional" service: perhaps they responded badly when unavoidable problems arose. (It is, after all, frightening when heating goes wrong in a Canadian winter!) read more

I will not be doing business with JCD Réfrigération ever again and will not recommended to anyone. Despite it's emergency and they came during the week after but I will not blame this point because they cant serve an enormous numbers of emergencies in the same time. But, the way that the technician has behave can only come from someone who does not technically understand the system he is working in. In less than five minutes, he listened to the sound of the air conditioner and saw that the fan isn't working. He immediately gave his diagnostic which is, change the motor and change the capacitor and change the fan plate. Then he said there are fees $298.99 for the visit, then he said how will you pay? And we paid by card. We were shocked. But the biggest disaster was when we called the company after several hours because no one called us to tell us what the repair cost would be,So. After discussions, the service guy gave us an estimation of $2200...Ofcourse we refused. The Big Surprised that I found it that the motor was good and only need to drop of oil the fan plat is in good condition and the only thing was damaged is one capacitor and I bought it by $15 +tax Can you imagin what they do, they take advantage of the customer's lack of understanding and ask him to change the largest number of parts to ensure that he solves the problem in one shot without specifying the part that has the problem, and thus the bill will be so high. read more

I will not be doing business with JCD Réfrigération ever again. This decision was not caused by any incompetence on their part but rather the horrible customer service of one of their employees. Our thermostat stopped working and we were in a very cold house for at least 24 hours. I found JCD Réfrigération on Google and was surprised at how fast they were able to come to our house, especially without an appointment. This is where the good part end. I do not have his name but it was an older man, quite tall, white hair and mustache who answered our service call. He was very nice over the phone, however, when he arrived, he was the most obnoxious, rude individual I have ever met. He was complaining every second while he was fixing our furnace. You'd hear things such as: 1. I can't work here, there is no space, move your freezer out of the way. (No please or any courteous way of asking) 2. I am not working past 5pm so If I don't get this fixed then it is not my problem. 3. Swearing the F word every 10 seconds. I felt like telling him to respect other people's homes but I needed my furnace fixed. Overall, he was quick but it doesn't out weight his incredibly negative and unprofessional attitude. ---Extreme Price Gouging --- I had a capacitor die on my A/C. Asked them to bring one with them for the call. They told me I cannot buy it in advance from them or anywhere else, so no costs were discussed other than the service call. (go figure) The tech was great on time, friendly, and had the new capacitor installed very quickly, A/C is working fine now. The problem I had is they charged $720 to change a capacitor on an A/C. I have attached pricing of exactly what was installed. SUPCO Super boost SPP6 Hard Start - Amazon price $20 JCD Charded me - $195 without discussing before hand. ROTOM 36-5-370440 Run Capacitor - $9 at appliance parts HQ. JCD Charged me - $180 without discussing before hand. 6 Wire Connectors - cents at canadian tire. JCD Charged me - $29 without discussing before hand. (They didnt break down the cost difference between electrical tape and the crimp connector.) They got me for a few hundred, but I will never use them in the future. I will not consider them for any of my commercial projects going forward either. read more

I had the absolute worst experience with these people. A father and son team. And when they say like father like son, it couldn't be more true. The story is a bit long but short version, I called them to "service" my heat pump because I feared ice damage from the long winter. They did so, gave it a clean bill of health and put a snow guard on it to the tune of $1,500.00!!! And not one month later (June) my AC wasn't working. I called them back and When they came to see what the problem was, the son started arguing with me, saying he didn't break my heat pump... which I never suggested in the first place (although if he didn't, he certainly wasn't talented enough to see it wasn't working 4 weeks earlier when I paid him $1,500.00 to ensure it was). But I digress... he proceeded to yell and argue with me like we were going to get into a bar fight. I told him he needs to calm down. I'll discuss the issue with his manager.... unbeknownst to me, the boss is this crazy kids father. So when I finally reach the boss dad and ask him what our next steps should be to fix our AC, he tells me Im facing a $9,000.00 replacement and repair and none of it is under warranty. To which I reply, I'm not going to spend $9,000.00 plus the $1,500 I already spent with you to fix a $6,000 heat pump that is only 5 years old. It's at this point that he explodes and starts yelling at me exactly like his son. I simply said "wow you really are father and son. Good Bye". I called Electroaide immediately after. They came, they looked at it and said "I have no idea how they could not see this problem in their first visit. It's obviously ice damage caused trough the winter. They should never have missed this." He proceeded to order some parts, get it all under warranty (which Mad Dad and Son told me wasn't an option) and repair my problem for $1,500. So if I had called them first I'd be $1,500 richer. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE GUYS!!!!! read more

AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Worst experience ever! This installation was to replace a very old mini-split wall-mounted A/C system. Chris, the son, came to look and prepare the quote. He promptly emailed the quote the next day (in hindsight, probably without any thought or actually doing any detailed calculations). Replacing the existing, old pipes and drainage (which was HIGHLY recommended by the other contractors who came to offer quotes) would cost several hundred dollars more. We opted for the additional cost to ensure an entirely new and optimum system. Chris assured us NUMEROUS times over the next week that it would not be a problem and that they would do a COMPLETE reinstallation. The day of the installation, the first person came at 7:15 AM (45 minutes earlier than the agreed upon time and disrupting our entire plans for that morning) to remove the old system. When Julian, the dad, arrived he kept saying that he would NOT replace the existing pipes and drainage because there were "too many turns" and they could not guarantee a flawless system as a result. Our setup had ONLY 2 turns before reaching the exterior unit. So, is JCD saying that they only do installations that have a direct and straight path from the interior unit to the exterior unit?!? If that were the case, their business would never have lasted! Or perhaps they are admitting to their incompetence because they are unable to perform such a simple installation involving ONLY 2 turns. The real reason, however, became clearly obvious less that an hour into the installation and for the remainder of that day when Julian kept bitching and whining that he "was not going to spend the whole day here"! After putting up with his complaining and incompetence (he did not come with the proper circuit breaker for the high-voltage to low-voltage connection that Chris quoted, had to run out to buy one, and then dropped our entire new circuit breaker box because he was too lazy to properly disconnect and reconnect the wire and kept looking for a shortcut), he finally finished - minus the replacement of the pipes and drainage which Chris insisted and promised would not be an issue. When we finally got through to Chris on the phone (who, incidentally, did not make a single appearance onsite that day), all he would say was "I trust my dad's judgement." Well then, he should have sent his dad to do the quote so that we could have refused him right away and gone with a more qualified, competent and professional company. Hey, we were in no rush for this installation - they could have given us another day when Julian was not in such a rush to take off for something else! Then, to add insult to injury, Julian charged us an additional $100 for the circuit breaker but said that he would give us a free check-up and cleaning next Spring. First of all, the circuit breaker required for the high-voltage to low-voltage connection was supposed to be INCLUDED in the original price, as per Chris' quote. Second, it is late Fall and the system will not be used until next Summer... what kind of check-up and cleaning do they think they need to do next Spring when it hasn't ever been used?!? BS! They will probably spend 5 minutes here, if even that long! So, if you really want to spend MORE for LESS, then by all means, go with JCD. Otherwise, save yourself the time, headache and torment and go with another company... you DEFINITELY cannot find anyone worse!!! read more

Contacted them on a Wednesday and explained AC problems. We booked an appointment for Friday, and they never showed. When I called to enquire, I had to go through the entire explanation all over again, as though I had never made an appointment. Then I was told that I had to wait until Monday the following week as they needed specialty equipment. When I enquired why this wasn't mentioned when I called to make the appointment, I was told that they don't want to argue and it is, what it is. Take it or leave it. I had a new heat pump installed by JCD refrigeration on Jan 19, 2018. I started having problems right away with the heat pump communication with the dual energy oil furnace. The heat pump did not know when to switch over to oil at minus 13. This was never an issue with my previous heat pump. I called JCD and they said as long as the heat pump is working it is not their problem. I called several other companies' and no one could figure it out. I finally fell upon Daniel Thériault refrigeration. They told me the installation was sloppy and that the power supply to the heat pump should be in my electrical panel and not the furnace. I should fix this first and then they would come and run diagnostics. JCD told me they followed the previous installation that unbeknownst to me was wrong. Once I upgraded my electrical panel and changed the power supply to the panel J P Thériault came and fixed the problem with a few adjustments. One year and 3 weeks after the initial installation by JCD the breaker kept tripping. I called JCD and 6 days later still had not heard from them. J P Thériault came by and told me an exterior wire was damaged and to call JCD for my warranty. JCD told me I was not on warranty and to get an electrician, it was not there problem. Needless to say they are a terrible company and have no customer relations what so ever. If anything goes wrong it is never their problem. I can't say enough good things about this company and its people. We had used them twice for repairs over the last 5 years, both times we were extremely happy with their service. Recently our family was going through a difficult time, and of course our furnace died on us during the last cold snap of the year. To make a long story short, we asked a lot of them and they absolutely delivered. I want the manager to know that they have a good group of guys working on their install team. I'm happy to give them my business and appreciate their efforts over the years. As an added bonus, the system they installed is much quieter and has a stronger fan, making a huge difference for our second floor. read more

Any company that can send somebody over on a holiday weekend for a home cooling emergency earns a 5-star in my books. It has been a pleasure to do business with Chris at JCD refrigeration in the purchase and installation of a new Lennox split system AC unit and the servicing of a second unit in our condo. Our old unit stopped cooling in the middle of a heat wave and he tried to add coolant but it did not work. We got several replacement estimates and their(JCD) bid was competitive. We especially appreciated Chris' responsiveness to our questions and requests during the process. He either answered the calls or always returned our calls promptly. He is a superb representative of his Co. Work was performed in a timely manner. We are very pleased with the results and would definetely recommend their services.
