He recommended three hotels in Gordon. And since Sturges was happening... two of the motels were booked. Western Sands Motel it is. I was told it was under new management and they're trying. We made reservations for a single night. The manager's name is Trisha... very nice. polite and down to earth. She recommended the Fuel Grill just down the street for dinner (great place by the way). We were given room #18... nothing much: queen size bed, TV (not cable), a desk chair, mini fridge, microwave and a air-conditioned unit that worked great. Oh and our own personal fly swatter Unfortunately, I left my travel bag there hanging behind the bathroom door. I didn't realize it until we hit South Dakota. I called and Trisha went to retrieve it from the room... she has since held onto it until I return to California and figure out a way to get it mailed back to me. Trisha makes great coffee. She's a sweetheart, and her grandson is a doll. I enjoyed talking to her... she has a couple of birthdays and two weddings coming up this month. Thank you, Trisha for a memorable stay. Mama De

Gordon, Nebraska is a very small town and your choice of hotels/motels are very limited. We chose…read morethis one because it was 2 miles from our delivery customer and would make for an easy drive in the morning. If you're a trucker, you can park your rig at the Pump & Pantry and make the small walk over. Easy as pie. Since our company was paying for the room, I can't complain about the 64$ price tag but I will say that it is far too much for the room we were eventually given. We were first given the keys to room #17 and when we walked in, the bed was unmade and it was filthy. Someone else was already using the room. We walked back in and exchanged the keys for a new room. It was simple and the manager apologized. We get moved into room #15 and the first thing we noticed was how small the room is. Two people will be decently comfortable but anything more than that, and you're gonna be bumping elbows and knees. There is a small flat-screen television available that had a horrible picture, a mini-fridge and a microwave. The room was not equipped with a coffee maker, a desk, hair-dryer, conditioner, extra pillows, or black-out curtains. The bed was very uncomfortable, but the wall-unit air conditioner kept the room ice cold so no complaints there. The bathroom was decently clean, if you don't mind dead bugs on the floor and the water pressure left a lot to be desired. There was no conditioner provided, only two shampoo packets. The towels were small and cheap and we were only provided two and some mismatched washcloths. WIFI was pretty good. That's about the only redeeming quality that I can find about this place. There is a convenience store, a Pizza Hut and a small cafe across the street as far as food options go. Sorry, but can't recommend.

Odd Duck Inn - I tried to cook something and smelled an alarming burn smell and noticed this!

The location is perfect for nature hikes, stargazing, and peaceful relaxation. After staying with them, driving through the more tourist oriented parts of the state (Custer, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse) was a real dissappointment due to its falseness and lack of connection to the real scenic beauty of the place. The Odd Duck Inn is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and to refresh one's self in a relaxed environment.

Mark the know it all pale face Claims to know more about the Lakota than the Lakota themselves. I was with my two daughters and for me it was interesting to hear what he said But it was a 90% one-way street I got in about 9% and my UCLA daughter got in about 1% mostly just went on stream of consciousness nonstop his life story, his parents life story and other things but he's like a crank professor who says the same stuff over and over. Ironically I was trying to help them out and being gracious because he charged me $250 for this filthy dump and he said he was new at Airbnb and I'm a super host so I was giving him tips on how to change the pricing and getting the place cleaned up he also tried to charge us $36 for our breakfast after he started cooking it! he actually entered the unit without knocking and started the breakfast early in the morning and then told me that it was gonna cost us money. also he he gets quite political.
