Without question, one of the worst hotels I have ever visited. I will start with the good points, as this is a far briefer list! The parking was right outside the door. That was handy as there is no elevator, and I had the only room not on the ground floor. The young lady at the reception desk was very nice, and check-in was quick. Everything was so terribly worn and stained that the room appeared dirty, when in fact, it was incredibly clean. I was very surprised. The bathtub was very deep, so if someone likes taking a bath, I prefer a shower, then they had that option. The bathroom and bedroom were very well lighted. The TV worked properly, and the TV channel guide they had in the room was very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable. OK. Now on to the rest! From the moment I arrived the Sunset Hotel felt as if the good times had all ridden off into the Sunset! This hotel's appearance could easily be the setting for a bad slasher movie! The entire place looks and feels old and worn out. The parking lot is terrible. Holes and uneven surfaces constitute what they somewhat optimistically call a parking lot! The entry door was filthy. It appeared to have not been cleaned in a very long time. The stairwell up to my room was narrow, poorly lit, and it appeared as if it were something out of a bad horror movie. Of course, as luck would have it, two hours after my arrival there was a terrible, long thunderstorm, and the pouring rain, thunder and lightning had me half expecting some hooded specter to come in out of the rain! LOL The room itself was incredibly dated, and in bad repair. There were lots of electrical cords plugged into extension cords, and running all over the place. One of them ran to the "OPEN" sign which was prominently displayed in one of my windows! I have NEVER seen that done before! Some of the electrical outlets, and cable TV connections, were pulled away from the wall, and nobody bothered to repair them! In a closet in my room was a display of keys to what seemed to be all the doors in the hotel. I do not know whether they worked or not as I did not check! It just added to the "creepy" vibe of the place. My room was advertised as being poolside. If by down the stairs, then down a hallway you mean poolside, then OK. I guess it was. The pool was NOWHERE near my room! My room was also supposed to include a fridge and microwave. Well, it did have a fridge. I took a picture of the empty hole where a microwave should have been. The toilet seat was broken, and unbelievably loose, and though an attempt had been made at repairs, it was simply a lazy, haphazard attempt to make the repair without having to actually get the right items to do so. Instead of buying the correct bolt, someone just substituted one that was probably convenient! The living room area was ridiculously dark. There were three light bulbs in the overhead light, but sadly, two of the bulbs were burned out, and nobody had bothered to replace them. It was so dark, that it was actually uncomfortable to even attempt to read in there. Do not bother calling the front desk to schedule a wake up call...they do not offer that service. There was, however, an alarm clock in the room, and that did suffice. In looking at some of the pictures of this hotel, I can definitely say that my room did not resemble those rooms in any way. I did book with Hotels.com, and I have noticed that sometimes that guarantees you will be assigned the worst room in the entire place! I think that may have been the case here. I would never consider returning here for another stay. There is much newer, much nicer lodging just up the street. I booked my stay here since it was rated #1 in Alliance. That ranking baffles me. read more
