The Jefferson Memorial is dedicated to the one of the most recognized Presidents of the United States: Thomas Jefferson. He is a favorite among many and one of the many signers of the Declaration of Independence.
I remember visiting the Jefferson Memorial on a family trip way back in 1996. It has been 25 or so years since that trip when I made my return in 2023. The city scape may have changed but the monuments to the United States presidents surely has not and has become a symbolic representation of hope, inspiration, and freedom we continue to express in every day life in America. Freedom is not always free, as I'm reminded each day. From the days of the founding of our nation in the late 1700's to the present day in the 21st century, visiting the Jefferson Memorial on this recent trip reaffirms my belief that we have been blessed a tremendous gift through the hard work and countless sacrifices of men, women, and children who shaped this country to the way it is today. The memorial is a tribute to honor one of the most greatest of United States presidents and a shining beacon of hope that freedom remains free in our democracy. During my time here, the statue of Thomas Jefferson stands large in his house. It was a time of reflection for me and a time of inspiration, since these are the times we desperately need some guidance for humanity and just a pause for everyone to see what we have and not be in a rush to get to where we need to be. I spent about 45 minutes before moving on to the Lincoln Memorial.
The overall experience here at the Jefferson Memorial here in Washington DC was quite remarkable and inspirational. Memorial in Washington DC was remarkable and awe-inspiring. As it is one of Washington DC's popular tourist attractions, it's one of the most poignant ones too, telling visitors and locals alike of the history of the United States in its more tumultous and formidable years during the formations of the United States of America with the 13 original colonies and the clean break from the British monarchy at the time. The memorial itself is as simple as it can be, being a structure to house the Thomas Jefferson statue, as it is the same as the Lincoln Memorial nearby. Everything within the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial is all within walking distance. During my experience at the Jefferson Memorial, I basically admired the great man and looked at his statue with some remembrance and a little bit of sadness with a bit of hope as well. During those times in American history was the most interesting at how building a nation required war. The entire structure was massive and definitely one to walk laps around it until you can get the sense of the enormity of the size. While its simple, it gave me some pause before helping me realize that, as mentioned above, how lucky we are living in the United States of America. While we do have our issues and problems, it's one of the better places to reside in the world today. Definitely recommended if you are here for vacation and wanting to see the touristy things Washington DC has to offer. It's an educational and an enriching experience, not to mention amazing as well. You would feel inspired here, no doubt.
The Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC is centrally located near the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Memorial is near by as well. The memorial also reminds me of why we should stop and think about the past and remember how far we have come as a nation and as individuals to make this country (USA) better than we found it yesterday. The memorial is open 24/7 and 365 days a year, including when I was there in the winter month of January, even though it didn't snow during my time spent here. Best bet would be to spend time here during the work week in the morning times. There's usually less people during that time. There's street parking nearby and if you are like me, the metro and or local bus service can take you here. I think there's also the Hop On Hop Off Bus tourists use as well to take you around Washington DC and it takes you here too. If you love Uber and/or Lyft, they can be of service to you too. However you get here, its one of those memorials that is iconic and represents Washington DC well. For the most part though, my experience was as quiet and peaceful, since i was there before the tourist crowds showed up. And there's no admission fee too.
5.0 stars for the overall experience. History is cool.
