Great bar hands down...for some. Service inside and overall experience having gone several times have been great. They even handle a busy Halloween season very well! This place will make karaoke nights a thing to remember. Sadly this memory isn't one I'll look on fondly for one reason. Where things became difficult was trying to get a friend in with an international passport...who has a visa coming soon and has been paying property taxes in South Side for years and has had to use his passport due to expired US I.D.s. They were denied entry despite having been allowed in the past. Was the place busy and hectic, absolutely and hands down to the staff for running a tight ship. If this is policy I'd understand but if it at all was due to negligence on the bouncer's end ,that is the issue. If you have non-US I.D. this place will make your night difficult. Overall its a great time...but clearly only for some. read more

literally my fav bar ever moving into pgh!! i love the idea of this bar; all year round spooky halloween themed bar. it feels like entering a diff world every time you're in there lol. the bartenders are super quick and attentive to your needs and we were able to order and receive our drinks within 10 mins of being in there. the space is pretty limited, but if you treat it like a club you'll be fine lol. we came in one night and it happened to be karaoke night, so people were in line to do their little performance. i also came in during halloween night and it was super packed, but the whole night was filled with great drinks and dancing on the floor. read more

I was really excited to come to this bar. I love all things remotely related to Halloween and love dive bars. Walking up to the front door I was so pumped up! Just to be immediately let down when we walked in and saw a few lonely people sitting around. Music was hip hop and very quiet. Didn't really fit with the theme. The bartender was happily conversing with a couple that came in behind us. The drinks and shots all sound amazing, unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to try any due to the vibe being way, way off. The decor was true horror and Halloween which is awesome. I read some other reviews of people complaining about smoke smell, it is now heavily fragranced of air fresheners. I'd like to come back, maybe on a weekend and try again. read more

From the moment we walked in, we could tell that we stuck out from the crowd. Everyone there looked like a local, and seemed to know each other. The bartender checked our IDs as soon as we came in. Lots of cheesy decorations around, Halloween style. Big spiders, webs, fake candles, etc. There was one person who was smoking a cigarette inside, which sucks, but whatever. The place was smoky but we stayed anyway. One star off for it being a smoking joint. We took a look at the cocktail list and ordered a Jack o Lantern, and a Zombie. We figured we had to get these since we were literally at a Halloween bar, but all the locals were not drinking these types of drinks and we can see why. These drinks were so very sugary, it was crazy! They came with a plastic set of vampire teeth in them too, which was fun to play around with. I liked my jack o lantern cocktail even though it was super sweet. It tasted like an orange creamsicle. All the themed cocktails were $5 each, which I think is pretty cheap. I would go back for karaoke sometime. Overall, cool decorations, a spot for locals, cheap drinks, and they let people smoke inside. read more

What a fun joint in the South Side. We came into town on a Thursday and had no plans - we stumbled in after 10pm and were taken back to our favorite 1980s horror movies and heavy metal karaoke. There's a mystery beer drink special that really hit the spot along with the bowls of Halloween candy that- with the badly sung bops on the microphone- made for a great night. read more

I've heard about this bar so many times and last night I finally went. I loved it so much. For anyone that loves Halloween and just horror themed things in general, this bar is the place for you. It was smaller than I thought but being a dive I wasn't surprised. I kind of liked the intimacy of it. The atmosphere was good too, it was karaoke night so people were having a great time and the energy was fun. It was Thursday night and they had their Evil drinks for $5. Reading the menu it was so hard to choose which one to get because they all sounded amazing. I ended up getting the Jack O'Lantern and wow was it delicious. I would totally get that drink all the time if I could! I highly recommend it. Also, every drink comes complete with a set of plastic vampire teeth and a little witches finger. Good vibes and great prices for their drinks! This little dive bar serves dark, spooky, and slightly cheesy vibes with generous halloween decor. The entire place is lit up blood red and is pretty small and cozy as a whole. A huge group of us took this place over on a weekday night (when we had no business going out) and absolutely swarmed the lone bartender who was manning the fort. He was pretty awesome, practically running from side to side and to serve tons of people as quickly as possible. Even then, he was super chill and I spotted him singing and grooving along to the music as he effortlessly mixed drinks. The prices were super fair and their drink specials have a cute, spooky touch. I'm told that E. Carson St. in the South Side of Pittsburgh has one of the highest concentrations of bars per block in the country, and I can definitely believe it. But while E. Carson St. itself is home to a plethora of sports-, beer-, and dive-bars as well as any combination thereof, which attract locals and tourist alike, the South Side side streets (try saying that 5 times fast...especially if you have the slightest of lisps - like me :) ) contain more than their share of hidden gems. One such bar is Jekyl & Hyde. From the decor to the beer selection, this establishment could not be more faithful to its terrifically terrifying theme. The exterior is that of a haunted castle, complete with a [presumably] empty suit of armor guarding the front gate/door. Once inside, you're assaulted by skeletal remains, ghoulish rubber heads, and spiderwebs on all sides. But in a good way (especially if you're an avid Horror movie fan). A chalkboard lists upcoming events such as karaoke nights, live music (some of which I was fortunate enough to witness and was extremely impressed by), and free pool night. The bar and tables are lined with flyers listing appropriately named specialty mixed drinks. They also have an excellent beer selection, due largely to microbrewers' penchants for scary names for beers and J&H's proclivity to stock such beers. The night that I came (largely due to my Welsh bladder and the need to use their restroom) their bartender was attentive, fun, and easygoing. The music, both live and from the jukebox, was entertaining, but what really set this bar apart from any bar I've been to - was its faithful following of its frightful theme. Staring around me at the assortment of people around me, my lungs slightly sore from belting out to Rock Band, my eyes itching from my brother's cigarette smoke, and my hands cold from my bottomless mug of water (which the bartender was on point at continuing to refill) - I couldn't help but sigh in perfect contentment. read more

I love this place. It is down the road from the main drag of Carson Street- so thankfully, it's a lil off the beaten path for all the student bar hoppers. When you walk in you will notice the horror theme and the drink list is crazy scary like jager and oj. ew. There is always some idoit playing the Uncle Fester Electric Shock treatment game.. complete with shock handles and a smoking lightbulb- haha! There is one pool table and a decent jukebox with guest dj nites. The 'special' scary drinks are adorned with lil skeletons or other strange trinkets. The bartenders really are some of the coolest in Southside and will go out of their way to make sure you're having a good experience. Halloween is my favorite time of year, so it's only fitting this is my favorite place to drink. The inside is so fun, anything Halloween you can imagine! The first time I went here Halloween eve and everyone was was dressed up which made it way more exciting. They were playing classic Halloween movies and playing creepy songs. The atmosphere is awesome here, Halloween eve or just a regular day! They do anything and everything they can to make you feel like your in a Halloween world any day of the week.
