I didn't want a large group class and I didn't ant to pay over £100 a month either. Basically I wanted to have the best of both worlds. And, insistent little blighter that I am, I got it! My kids now go once a week to the Robin Gordon swimming school which runs in the pool at Campbell College. The coaches are excellent - I think they are from the sixth form swimming team at Campbell so not only are they excellent swimmers who know their stuff, but they're also still young enough to know how to relate really well to the kids. My little swim stars have improved dramatically since they started these lessons a few months ago and I am more than happy with the coaching standards. The kids really look forward to their lessons which is a good sign and in fact one of them insisted on going straight after he had a tooth out at the dentist. There is always a little bit of play time at the start and end of the lesson so everyone's happy. I will definitely sign up next term. Oh yes, the cost. £5 a week each which is excellent as the class sizes are small.

I take my two boys here and they really look forward to Friday each week. The instructors are young and friendly and the boys love him, they have made such good progress, I am AMAZED how well they have done, looking forward to Summer Holidays now I will just relax around the pool and beach. I recommened JEM Swim Scholl to my friend and she also has had a very positive experience. All individual children are accommodated within a class, whether water-shy or water babies! Liz has a very child centered approach and can accommodate the whole range of abilities within a class taking time with each child developing them all at their own pace. It's been a really rewarding and enjoyable experience for my son. He has got so much out of his swimming classes and it has developed not only his swimming but also his confidence and social skills. Walking through the inside of Ards Lesiure Centre is like walking through a cold war bunker. The…read moregrey brick work along with the brown tiled floor makes for a really unpleasant experience. No wonder people hate the gym, the walk to it would put you in mind of the Green Mile. There's been absolutely no attempt to give Ards Leisure Centre a facelift. In fact I think it's exactly the same as it was when I last reviewed it back in 2010. Since the opening of Aurora in Bangor this place pales in to insignificance. On the positive side it does have a wealth of activities on offer, everything from badminton to fitness classes. i was actually there to attend a spin class and it was top notch. The instructor was great and you can distract yourself from the pain of peddling by questioning what era the curtains were erected in. All in all this place is a little dated - i wouldn't be surprised if NI Screen bought it up as the set of their next post apocalyptic blockbuster.

They have a health suite which you pay about £4 to use, to be honest it is very dated with swing doors on the front of the entrance. It just feels a bit grimy. The swimming pool is used by local schools for swimming lessons which means that if you are unlucky you will be swimming along side 30 splashing, noisy, snot-ridden kids. They have a gym but it is small and has that chalky feeling to it. One good thing is the classes they run - pole dancing, trampoline and archery are among those on offer but you need to be fast as the places go quick, quick, quick!

It has been part of the Antrim skyline for as long as I can remember and it wouldn't really be he same without it. It is a rather ugly plastic building but the facilities it offers is excellent. For some reason, there are security gates at the entrance. The receptionists do open them if you want to use the public toilets but otherwise you will have to insert the card given to you for your session to open them. It is about a ten minute walk from the Masserene Golf Club, five minutes from Clotworthy and fifteen minutes from the Lough Shore via Deerpark Bridge. The close proximity to Antrim's main leisure and tourist destinations is good. I can't really find anything wrong with it - the only thing is that the bowling alley is quite small so everyone goes to the big one at Dundonald Ice Bowl if they want a serious game of bowling.

There are also swimming lessons for babys through the week that mums or dads or grandparents can take their child too to help them learn to swim get used to the water and mix with other children in the pool. Antrim forum also has lots of other activities to take part in and all reasonably priced and it is much larger than you might expect from a relitivly small town leisure centre. There is also a soft play area which is ideal to take little ones too they love it and burn off lots of energy. Also easy to get to by bus or walking or car.

However if normal gyms intimidate you, this may be your starting place. It's small and quite and no judgments over your work out. They provide some great classes with positive and helpful teachers. Yoga here is especially excellent. I have been to a few yoga classes in my time and I've learnt more here than anywhere else. Good practical tips and they don't push you belong your limits. The pool is small with no deep end. But its perfect the for a morning swim. Again it's a bit run down, which can be a tad frustrating considering this isn't a cheap gym. The hallway to the pool constantly smells bad. The showers and changing rooms are clean, but old. Most keys have lost the scrappy bit for your arm so bring a pin as well as your pound to pay for them. Personally I am willing to put up with all the negatives as this gym as what's most important to me, a pool I can do lengths in with no interruption and no que for machines!

This is the first school year when I have come across Rugby Tots and I am so glad I did…read more Rugby Tots is a rugby based class which has been designed to devlop kids' physical, psychological and social skills by encouraging rugby skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try. The class my nippers go to is for 5 - 7 year olds but has only 5 year olds in it. It truly is a miracle what the two dedicated instructors acheive each week in less than an hour. With around 15 little boys in one sports hall, they manage to keep control, structure the activities, make sure everyone is participating and praised and soothe anyone who is crying (at least one boy at any one time). I am constantly amazed - how DO they do it? Massive kudos to them for pulling it off. My five year old totally loves it. During the snowiest weather in the winter, there were a couple of weeks when I tried to talk him out of going. But he was having none of it and we had to brave the snow to get there. His ball skills and equally importantly his confidence grow every week which is wonderful to see. For a class this good, you're going to pay a premium and each session works out about £7 which really is eye watering, plus about £30 for kit, but I truly believe it is money well spent. My Rugby Tot is a happy tot!
