However if normal gyms intimidate you, this may be your starting place. It's small and quite and no judgments over your work out. They provide some great classes with positive and helpful teachers. Yoga here is especially excellent. I have been to a few yoga classes in my time and I've learnt more here than anywhere else. Good practical tips and they don't push you belong your limits. The pool is small with no deep end. But its perfect the for a morning swim. Again it's a bit run down, which can be a tad frustrating considering this isn't a cheap gym. The hallway to the pool constantly smells bad. The showers and changing rooms are clean, but old. Most keys have lost the scrappy bit for your arm so bring a pin as well as your pound to pay for them. Personally I am willing to put up with all the negatives as this gym as what's most important to me, a pool I can do lengths in with no interruption and no que for machines!

Studio for 40 classes a week. Personal trainers on hand for help but don't push for private one to one sessions that you pay extra for. £18.99 a month. No contract. Bring your own padlock for locker. Showers are always clean and changing room checked regularly.

Best way to go beyond the status quo and get those 5 stars is to have real people casually helping out and advising folk, who might be new to it all. Radical idea! I know it means paying more salaries but the benefits of having spotters and specialists there in hand will mean more gym attendees in the medium to long term. My two cents worth! This is the first school year when I have come across Rugby Tots and I am so glad I did…read more Rugby Tots is a rugby based class which has been designed to devlop kids' physical, psychological and social skills by encouraging rugby skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try. The class my nippers go to is for 5 - 7 year olds but has only 5 year olds in it. It truly is a miracle what the two dedicated instructors acheive each week in less than an hour. With around 15 little boys in one sports hall, they manage to keep control, structure the activities, make sure everyone is participating and praised and soothe anyone who is crying (at least one boy at any one time). I am constantly amazed - how DO they do it? Massive kudos to them for pulling it off. My five year old totally loves it. During the snowiest weather in the winter, there were a couple of weeks when I tried to talk him out of going. But he was having none of it and we had to brave the snow to get there. His ball skills and equally importantly his confidence grow every week which is wonderful to see. For a class this good, you're going to pay a premium and each session works out about £7 which really is eye watering, plus about £30 for kit, but I truly believe it is money well spent. My Rugby Tot is a happy tot!

I have been looking a new gym lately. Tried a few out and think this is the winner! Cant believe…read moreits been around so long without me knowing about it! Only £20 a month, no contract. You can pay cash. Situated upstairs in the Frames complex on Little Donegal Street. (Their website has not been updated, look at their facebook) The staff are really friendly and there is more of a community feeling. The entrance has a reception with lots of protein snacks and powders and bars. You can buy them individually. Its defiantly an old school feel with lads chugging pre-workout before a session. Over two floors there is loads of equipment. Bottom having loads of free weights and 20kg bars. two power racks and a smith along with two heavy duty leg presses (one a hack) the space isnt massive but is is well laid out given its size. Other machines include lat pull down, diverging rows, chest press and shoulder press. Two boxing rings and around 10 hanging punch bags in another room. Lots of boxercise classes are run from here. The top floor is excellent!! Huge space with a crossfit rig, altro turf with a sled, truck tires for flipping and battle ropes. Two more power racks and a dead lifting platform. Hack squat frame and farmers walk equipment. Another room has cardio machines, treadmills, stepper, rowers etc. not many but then its more of a strength and conditioning outfit. Ladies changing rooms are basic with two showers and a toilet and hairdryer. Lockers throughout the gym on different floors. Parking outside and around the block on a ticket metre. Lots of PTs and a general good feel.
