When my husband and I…read morewere first looking to move to the area I did a quick search for real estate agents on Yelp, Ryan's paged looked great and since it said he responded to Yelp messages typically within an hour (because who wants to pick up a phone?!) I figured I would reach out to see if he had any last minute availability to show us to a few properties and he did. Although Ryan's office is based in Chapel Hill don't let that deter you, we were only looking in Raleigh. He knows all the ins and outs of the Raleigh neighborhoods and can get here quickly when you need him. We went under contract only two weeks after working with him. He uses Patrick with a local home inspection company to do the inspection and he did a thorough job. After the great inspection Ryan said the only thing left he could think of was a metal detector test of the property, since the house was older and there was a small chance of an underground oil tank. We did the test not thinking much of it and turns out there was an underground tank and it had extensively leaked. Ryan and his assistant Karen headed up making all the appointments and getting the right people out there to deal with the issue. Sadly the seller didn't want to really deal with the issue so away that contract went. Since Ryan knew what we were looking for was kind of niche he sent us a property here and there and we kept our eyes open as well. When a house popped up on the market on a Thursday night we text him if he could meet us there the next morning to take a look. He did and we feel in love. We put an offer in that day and started the process all over again. The second time around we worked with Karen a lot and she is great to work with as well. We successfully closed on this house and love where we ended up. An additional note since Ryan works in a group with a few other real estate agents if you need to see a house in a hurry and he isn't available, he will coordinate with someone in his office who is. Our experience with Abshure Realty Group was one of the most disheartening and unjust situations my…read morefamily has ever faced. RACISM, RETALIATION, DISRESPECT, AND UNPROFESSIONALISM Despite paying over $22,000 a year ($2,000/month) to live in their property, we were forced to endure 144 days--including an entire summer--without a functioning HVAC system. The conditions were unbearable and absolutely uninhabitable. I reached out multiple times asking for repairs, but they took minimum to no accountability; only providing a portable unit in a small bedroom which didn't cool the entire home to sending a technician out to repeatedly applying a ban-aid. The Abshure Realty Group had prior knowledge of the broken HVAC and instead of immediately replacing it they put us thru the ringer... Eventually, I filed a lawsuit to seek justice for the hardship we endured--and that's when things got worse. Instead of taking responsibility, The Abshure Realty Group retaliated against us. I made several good faith offers to work things out, even stating I'd be willing to drop the lawsuit if they just resolved the issue fairly. They refused. They used the fact that we withheld just one month of rent--which we believed was justified due to the unlivable conditions--as grounds to file a wrongful eviction against us. At the time I wasn't aware of NC's law stating that tenants cannot withhold rent, which is biased and allows landlords to take advantage of tenants and still get paid.. After paying rent to the courts for months, I eventually even offered to pay the one month's rent to settle the account but asked to have the eviction dropped, again they refused...and kept the case going.... In addition to that, we were charged multiple late fees during our tenancy, many of which were unfair or occurred during times when they were clearly in the wrong. After we vacated the property last month in May, they even charged us rent for June's rent, which was completely unjustified... we weren't even in the property in June. We moved prior to the Sheriff's coming and I guess that made them mad that they couldn't capitalize off our personal belongings. To make matters worse, I received a RACIST text message (attached) from KRISTA ABSHURE herself--sent to me by mistake. That message spoke volumes about how they truly viewed us as tenants and explained why they didn't want to settle... she didn't want us there! She didn't know that her minority employee David Michael had approved a "Black family". This was offensive, dehumanizing, and heartbreaking. But I'm sure she will have David deny it all in their reply. Our family was treated with complete disregard and disrespect! After a year of paying rent faithfully and trying to resolve things peacefully, we were met with retaliation, racism, and a retaliatory eviction . Did we have late payments? Yes... did we pay the late fees? yes... When we moved into the property we had just relocated to Raleigh and had some issues adjusting, but everything was communicated to Krista and her staff when I knew rent would be late... She and her staff could care less but they took our money and made multiple threats of eviction from day one! This company isn't a fair company and has no remorse for real-life situations... obviously .... they cared less that we sat in the heat... I'm writing this review so others can be aware and think twice before trusting Abshure Realty Group with their housing needs. What happened to us should not happen to any family. I will update this review as this court case continues and we seek JUSTICE!
