We purchased a home that Joyce and her partner had renovated and flipped. Although we are happy in…read morethe home now, our experience during the purchasing process was horrific. As first-time homebuyers, we relied on Joyce and her team to be honest about the condition of the property and the repairs we requested. We were told that the requested work had been completed and were provided receipts as proof. We later discovered that the work had not been completed as represented and that the receipts provided to us were fake. The home was also supposed to be professionally cleaned before closing because it was filthy from the construction. During our final walkthrough, we documented that the cleaning had not been done and brought the photos and receipts with us to closing. When we raised these concerns with our lawyer present, Joyce proceeded to scream at us. Even her own lawyer acknowledged that it was obvious the home had not been cleaned. We were then promised that someone would return in the spring to clean the gutters, but that never happened. After living in the home for approximately one month, we also discovered serious basement water issues that had not been disclosed to us. Based on what we found, it was difficult to believe that the sellers had been unaware of the problem. During closing, we were also threatened with the claim that they could find another buyer the next day and were told the house was still being shown. This made an already stressful and intimidating situation even worse. Based on our experience, I do not recommend doing business with Joyce or her associates, nor would I recommend purchasing a home renovated or flipped by them. We learned a very difficult and expensive lesson through this process. Joyce should be ashamed of the way she conducts business and what she claims to provide to the community.

I recently viewed an apartment at 3224 N Keating Ave Apt 1. Although the Veronica (and her…read moreco-worker Maritza) did provide good communication and were professional through out the process, what caused me to not recommend them is that they represent slum lords, wasted a couple hours of my time by failing to notify me ahead of time of the many serious issues with this apartment, were willing to endanger my life and property, and failed to perform their civic duty. Among the most egregious problems with this apartment were: - The apartment building itself had a serious cock roach infestation, during our tour we found at least 10 dead cock roaches in the bathrooms and kitchen. God only knows how many you would see scurry away if you left the lights off for a couple hours and then turned them back on. I personally doubt this issue can be solved without gutting the entire building and fumigating it. - There was exposed high voltage electrical wiring in numerous locations both throughout the apartment itself, and in the common areas of the building. - The smoke detectors in common areas of the building which feature natural gas burning appliances, such as a furnace room and the laundry room, had broken smoke detectors. - I did not notice any smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors the apartment, which are required by law. When I brought up these issues and numerous other issues to her coworker Maritza, she seemed to have a general indifference to them, and simply said the property owner would fix them, which I consider highly unlikely because it is obvious many of these issues have been there for years and that the property owner is a slum lord. When I brought up this issues to Veronica, she simply said she would forward them to the property owner. They however have not pulled the listing until the property owner fixes these serious code violations, which gives the impression dont really seem to care if someone dies in a fire or is electrocuted, so long as they get their commission. It seems like this company has a general lack of ethics and are willing to sell any property, regardless of if it is unsafe and would endanger the lives of the tenants, when they really should have just called 311 and reported the numerous code violations as is their civic duty. As a result, I would exercise extreme caution when considering any properties listed by Tapia Realty, and ensure that they are thoroughly inspected by your own building inspectors.

We corresponded by e-mail and phone at first so Derek could get a better idea of what we were looking for in a property. Derek was very nice and easy to talk to on the phone and in person. Derek was also very flexible in arranging times to show apartments and personally showed us over ten different properties in a two week span (transportation provided by him). Derek was always very prompt in replying to all correspondence and of course to all meetings we had with him (if he was late he always gave us plenty of notice and was very courteous). Mr. DiSera is extremely knowledgeable about real estate and also has personal experience as a landlord and renovator so he knows what to look for (and what not to look for) in a property. He is very direct and "no b.s." and will tell you if he does not prefer a property and why without being pushy. My wife and I highly recommend Derek and when we are in the market for purchasing a home we will look for him again.
