For a quick hike, follow the clearly-marked trail up a hill to this network of small caves. My six-year-old daughter and I enjoyed the visit. There's a playground and restrooms at the trail entrance. read more

Here's our experience. 1) Tickets: They offer tours, but we opted for tickets to the cafe at the top. It cost 200 CZK for me and my daughter was free. You have to buy the tickets online or at the info center, not at the actual Bolt Tower. 2) Experience: It doesn't take long to climb all the stairs, but at almost every level there are things to see and read to learn about the old coal mine. Almost to the top is the small cafe that serves coffee, beer, wine, etc. They also have clean restrooms. 3) Area: Once done, walk around the campus to find a science center, cafes, bars, etc.

But the park itself is a great place to walk around, with big mining equipment from several eras spread around, restaurants in repurposed historical buildings, walking trails through the forest, a "mini-zoo" with a couple goats, and a small zip line. There's a huge parking lot, and it can be reached easily by bus with a short walk.
Of all the giant mountains of mining waste I've visited...this is the first. Probably the last. Otherwise, like many post-industrial sites, it has largely given over to nature, with lots of trees, birds, and deer. The trail is mostly easy, gradually uphill, then suddenly very steep & rocky for the last 150 meters to the peak -- but you need to do that for the view.
It's hard to go wrong with a zoo in kids' minds. Is this one the biggest, coolest one you'll go to?…read moreNo, but my six-year-old daughter enjoyed it. Since we went on a Thursday morning in August during peak season, admission was higher than other months. It cost 260 CZK for both of us to go. Not a bad price for a potentially all-day outing. The zoo is spread out either long trails that go through woods. That means you'll walk for minutes without seeing any animals. The animals themselves are organized around houses where you can walk inside to see them or venture outside since the cages expand to the outside in most cases. They have monkeys, hippos, giraffes, birds, fish, and all the other usual suspects. Where they stand out are the play areas throughout the zoo with the biggest playground being near the entrance. There are enough restrooms and snack areas.
