The programs that we have enjoyed are: Piano lessons, Ballet class and ASL at Gernon Brown, Swimming class, playground and free meals at Treme Center and recently the Kung Fu and Kickboxing at Milne. Milne is the newest and smallest to open and is in Gentilly. It is located behind the main office on Franklin Avenue. Sometimes we come in to just use the fitness center, which has all new equipment and is 18 and over. I can't wait until they add more classes with actual teachers as we have tried to sign up for several things that have not been staffed. Sad face. But we are happy to have this in Gentilly and will keep enjoying it!

So after a Yelp Gets Physical and the ease of location, I decided City Surf Fitness was going to be…read morewhat got my "slingshots" (as my loving, eternal +1 calls my biceps) into some toned muscle and get back into living a more healthy lifestyle. My workout preference is one that doesn't feel like working out, i.e. volleyball, kayaking, dancing on pool tables. Those sort of things. So I'm not a yoga, pilates, "lets really think about this stretch" sort-of-exerciser. I'm also horrible at a gym membership 'cause no one is going to crack the whip on me to go there if it's not intentionally put on my schedule. I think City Surf is the perfect fit for me in this regard. I'm not an early bird, and they have classes that fit for my schedule at 8:30 am, and if I book, I'm committed to going. The two classes I really like are Beach Body Bootcamp* and City Surf*. IF you are a yoga type, or want to do more muscle-building, they have other courses and you can get a sneak peek of what they look like on their site if you want to set expectations. Each person in the class is assigned a surf board that is on top of three fitness balls. It's not as unbalanced as a real surfboard might be in the water but still takes a second to master some of the moves on top of the board. My balance was for shiz at first, but I can tell even from my last couple of classes, that it's improving. The classes are only 50 minutes long, and like their mantra says, it really is a no pressure environment. While you are in a class, it's really easy to focus on what you're doing and the instructor is there more so to guide you through the workout. There's no calling anyone out if you get winded (which I do), slow your pace, or need to adjust what you're doing. The music is great to workout to, and at the end you get a nice cooling towel placed on you face (I'm totally into it). You do need grippy socks (which they sell) for the boards, and I would suggest if you have sweaty palms (like this lady) maybe also get some grippy gloves so you can properly do the exercises. I like that I'm sore in places I never knew I could be sore, but not so sore that it's debilitating. If you think the classes are a little pricey they do have some great introductory rates, and they'll throw a deal out there every now and then. I am excited to work up to pea shooters from my current state of slingshots, and see where I can go from there! ;) Beach Body Bootcamp - Cardio based class designed to make you sweat and burn calories. We were already somewhat knowledgeable about Montessori so we knew that we wanted to go in that direction. When we got a chance to tour the school our breaths were taken away. As a parent, you look for signs of to determine how you feel about an environment. Well, we saw nothing but good and have continued to see that since enrolling our own son. First, the calmness of the classroom was unlike anything I have ever seen when visiting an establishment that cares for young children. It was not wiled and crazy with kids running everywhere with no sense of direction. Second, the demeanor of the children themselves and their interaction with the teachers floored me. I did not see fear or distrust. Instead, I saw a wonderful relationship between the children being cared for and the women that care for them. The women of Kinder Haus Montessori care for my son and the other children as if they were their own. They have a patience about them that put me completely at ease. I have not worried about leaving my son in their care and his progression and love for his teachers has only furthered my trust in them. Since enrolling him almost nine months ago now his development and independence has grown and he impresses us every single day. He is learning in a way that I feel would have benefited me as a child. Kinder Haus Montessori is also helping to further what I began teaching him at home. I have a degree in sign language and when I learned that they use sign language as a form of communication, I was ecstatic. I am happy he is with them. All in all, I love knowing that our son is happy, cared for in a way that I see fit, learning in a way that I feel is necessary for his age group and on top of all of that being taught other things that I am passionate about. I am very thankful for the teachers they have had from 2nd to 8th grade (these are the grades attended) . All teachers were easily accessible and responded to all my inquiries same day sometimes within the hour. The best part from my experience with Belle chasse Academy is the communication, I have been in the know when it comes with anything involving my kids. Communication is sent through parent square app, posted on their Facebook page and for extremely time sensitive information receive an automated call. Both my kids have had the opportunity to be in advance math which will have them enter high school with a math credit completed. BCA has many opportunities for advanced students to continue advancing in all core classes and earn high school credits in 8th grade. For our family BCA has been a great school and exceeded our expectations.
