Great staff. Wonderful facility. An asset to the community. We are lucky to have an organization like the JCC in our neighborhood. From preschool and summer camps to resources for seniors to the gym and pool the JCC is an inclusive place for everyone. I primarily use the JCC for the gym and the pool (both of which are great), but our family also utilizes the summer day camp for our kiddo (which he LOVES). read more

As a non-tech person who has created websites I don't understand why the JCC/AgeWell pages are not updated and accurate. When mentioning to the AW staff about a scheduled class that was not happening as posted the response was - oh, that was canceled weeks ago. So why is it still on the site today??? There were 4 staff in the AW office who seem like you are bothering them when checking in. Pool closures are not updated timely for lesson times and the PT group takes over a large area of the small pool - but this is also not posted on the schedule????? The premium cost continues to increase as the service declines. read more

A nice place to hold events like todays for the dragon dance for Lunar New Year on 2-16-25. Parking is free but very hard to find when there's a big event bc it's just one lot on the ground street floor so it's best you find street parking a walk a bit which is not terrible and good exercise. It's nestled in a residential neighborhood. I love it that this center promotes culture and diversity and learning about each other ... and so many non Chinese Americans also attended this event. The Levinson room was packed w people outside the room. Thank you. I don't have any other experience w this center other than this event so I can't speak for everything else. read more

I got the premium membership. I have UPMC health insurance and can get an Active and Fit subscription with them to lower the cost of many gyms. I'll share because there is no place I could find out in advance of their pricing system. A premium membership allows use of their premium locker room, with a steam room, a sauna, and a whirlpool. It also includes all the classes, and the recovery room that holds various message implements. A very cool feature. A standard membership gives a basic locker room, and each class is paid for individually. Both memberships have access to weight and cardio rooms, indoor basketball court that turns into a pickleball court, and indoor pools. I believe that's how it goes. They run a Black Friday deal that removes the $149 enrollment fee. Along with 20% off for the first year. The standard individual membership is $67 per month. The premium individual membership is an additional $43 per month. The UPMC Active and Fit subscription is $28 per month. This gives a free standard membership at the JCC. The thing is, once you have the Active and Fit subscription, they increase the premium membership from $43 to $61 per month. So all in instead of pay the $96 per month (which includes the 20% off), for the premium individual membership, I pay $89 monthly. So the Active and Fit saves $7 per month. Not a lot. But, over a year, that is $84, so almost the cost of one month. Ok. It took all afternoon to sign up for the Active and Fit through UPMC. This type of pricing at the JCC felt like I was buying a used car that was about to become a lemon. It felt slimy and like I was signing up to get taken advantage of. Like a dreadful regret would soon be my companion. In addition, parking is $1.50 per hour, or there is some street parking that may be free. So that can add to the cost of a membership quickly. Which is unfortunate because the overall facility seems good. There are almost no windows that that look outside. The cardio, weights, exercise, recovery, and locker rooms have no windows. So it kind of feels like a series of basement rooms. That is not good. I imagine it is because it is an older building. Each room felt like it had weathered its share of hard use. The premium women's locker room entrance room is stocked with Starbucks coffee and a filtered water dispenser. This first room in the premium locker room is bland and needs to be improved. I appreciate the filtered water because I drink tons when I use the steam, sauna, and whirlpool. I was able to refill my bottle throughout my stay. There is no premium feel about this entrance room however. There are two tables, some nice magazines, and a kitchenette. Again, no windows, no plants, no comfy chairs, no luxe at all. No mirrors to shine light around to make it seem brighter than a basement. It is underwhelming. I heard the men's premium locker room has a pool table. It seemed messy and a bit dirty. There was a different woman on the floor each time I entered. I think they were stretching? Maybe they didn't want to stretch in a coed setting? It seemed unappealing to sit in there and read a magazine. Although, I did want to as they had an issue of The Sun, my favorite magazine. There are No Talking on Cell Phone signs all around the locker room and each time I went into this first room of the locker room, (6 times), women were talking on their cell phones. So, like most environments there are people that can claim the exception. I know I'm not one. I am a new member and was definitely made to feel like one. I said hi to every woman I crossed in the locker room. Only one said hi back. I must have walked past 25-30 women. It's Pittsburgh. And so it goes. The most highly insular place I've ever been to. I do actively look forward to getting in my time in that steam, sauna, whirlpool room, above all, this winter. Until I get my own steam, sauna and whirlpool at my home, I'll be there surviving this cold. Being that it is tied to a religious society though, I did expect it to be more welcoming. read more

I left my job here awhile ago, although the people in this facility are somewhat nice and respectful I was inappropriately spoken to throughout my job here. The higher ups are extremely disrespectful to their workers and will shrug you off at any given chance. You will do more work for your time and money here. I was promised a lot at the JCC and unfortunately was ignored by the higher ups. The new CEO of the JCC doesn't acknowledge anyone's needs or concerns and is extremely selfish. This facility was beautiful and everyone got along before the new CEO Jason came around. Enforcing rules and procedures only for his specific liking that don't align with the children or workers. Don't waste your money since he's also increasing membership prices. read more

This is the 2nd location of the JCC as it is normally known as. The main one is located in Squirrel Hill on the corner of Forbes and Murray Aves. Catering to the people of the South Hills community a membership entitles you not only to participate in their fitness center but also provides child care, summer camp, a senior's program, and ability to participate in certain events during the year. I stopped over here to tour the place as I am still on the mend from a shoulder injury. They have a tiered private parking lot with handicapped access in front. In one room they have your standard exercise machines and I was told it is pretty much replicated on the 2nd floor. There is no elevator in this building. There is also a room with machine circuit training which I learned you will be taught how to use and then you go at your own place. Finally there is a free weights area in addition to a regular gymnasium. In addition, there is a children's area that I didn't visit but it had a nice outdoor playground. Child care is available for a fee. Fitness classes are held in either the dance studio or in another room designed for seniors who wish to take Silver Sneakers classes. There are vending machines throughout. Towards the back are the locker rooms complete with showers that lead to the swimming pool. I was told you cannot wear regular shoes in the pool area. Flip flops and aqua shoes are acceptable. They offer swimming lessons for all ages for an additional fee. There are plenty of lanes for lap swimming and I was told they heat the water temperature to the mid 80s for people with arthritis. I got to sit down and chat a little with the head personal trainer to find out more about what they offer. He told me about an introductory session with rates for new members. He also gave me a few pointers to help me climb stairs as well as the proper way to get in and out of a chair. So many things one takes for granted. Another lady was on hand to answer my questions regarding membership, medical leaves, etc, and class schedules. We got to observe a couple classes in session very briefly. She also told me they have a special program designed for people with arthritis and if I wanted to take any arthritic water classes then I would need a doctor's note. She gave me a bunch of brochures to take home with me. Membership here is two tiered and not all inclusive. For the most part however your membership gives you use to all the facilities. Certain classes have a slight add on charge and you pay when you arrive to register for that particular class. The platinum membership gives you a few more perks such as yoga classes as well as access to some of the offerings at the Squirrel Hill location. The general membership covers most of your basics. Both memberships are a bit pricey but unless you plan to head over to Squirrel Hill I would stick with the general. You must pay to park in Squirrel Hill. Please note that all memberships are a years' commitment. You can either pay monthly or pay it in full if so inclined. There is also an enrollment fee which depending on the season may be waived. On the plus side for those who have a Medicare Advantage plan with fitness benefits, your Silver sneakers or Silver and Fit are accepted here which will give you free basic membership. I also like the fact that this place is under 24 hour surveillance and there are signs everywhere telling you that. I was glad to see that they offer more Silver Sneakers classes here throughout the week because my re entry to fitness once my shoulder is recovered will have to be gradual. Time will tell if I decide to go with them for a new exercise program. They are located on Kane road behind the hospital and it is an easy drive to Bower Hill Road in Scott Township. read more

I've been a member for over 10 years. Its rarely crowded which is a huge plus. Machines in the gym are very poorly maintained. After repeated reminders after many months no one seems to take any action what so ever. Its pretty poor. But again, its close, people are friendly over all, and its not crowded. read more

Have had a prior good experience experience rehabbing a post-stroke victim here , but I am sad to report that another Senior Couple I work with has received TERRIBLE Customer Service. Unable to use their membership even one time , (he is 94) the couple went IN PERSON to cancel their account, thinking they would not be billed. Not only were they billed $59. month for 3 months without ever being able to use the services, but when asked JCC would not credit ONE PENNY. I work with Seniors-- I expect way more care! The JCC South Hill's Early Childhood Development Center has a newly enlisted admission practice component that will exclude children if they do not reside in a very specific, wealthy zip code. This preferred and mandatory attendance zone for admission is new, was without the best practice of prior notice before implementation, and this admission practice exclusion is not on the advertised Early Childhood Development Center admission material. Past or present experiences does not resolve or explain away this new exclusive admission practice or the manner by which this admission practice was implemented. We can better demonstrate the advertised Early Childhood Development Center being truly open and truly being accessible but the new exclusions for admission also has adverse, disproportionate, and disparate affects on children and families seeking Financial Aid and are now excluded because they can't afford to live in the right zip code. This exclusion should be forthcoming on Financial Aid material and fairly advertise exclusion limitation due to residence, not need. The average home value of this newly mandated zip code for ECDC admission is $300,00 and above. Therefore, innocent children may not be eligible for normal admission nor Financial Aid, had it not been for a preferred zip code that is used to select children for admission. The decision power to admit or deny also translates into advantage or disadvantage for admission, so it is better to be forthcoming in all areas of advertising where Admission Material is posted to notify unsuspecting families and children since that was not done ahead of time (as oppose to the same-day-notification of exclusion on the same day open enrollment began- not before open enrollment). Admission exclusion disclosure to donors, parents whom are donors, or to parents whom donated to The JCC South Hill's Early Childhood Development Center in any capacity is also a best practice because the intent of the donor may have been to help the very children whom are now excluded from ECDC program admission by disqualification from admission inclusion on the new basis of residence. Another aspect that seems to be lost is that the very families who were recruited or asked to give may now be blindsided and may also find their children excluded, but these families may have donated unaware that a rule changed or policy switched after their donation was received. Timely admission exclusion disclosure could have alleviated these important factors that relate to donors, parent whom are donors, admission exclusion disclosures on all Financial Aid material and on all JCC South Hills Early Childhood Development Center advertising material, and disclosing the policy exclusion and its implementation with prior notice. This narrowly tailored and sudden interest to exclude in unlike the previous admission inclusion of regardless of where an innocent child can afford to live for admission consideration has disparate impact - how unfortunate, especially since The JCC South Hill's Early Childhood Development Center admission was originally meant to welcome all under a communal umbrella to promote tangible love, acceptance, equality, and inclusion. read more
