We started Taekwondo six years ago and have had a couple different Taekwondo Masters teach my boys. I honestly thought all Taekwondo instructors were the same and it didn't make a big difference in their practice. After three years of training with Master Kim, I was able to see a significant difference in my boy's Taekwondo practice and character. Master Kim who is a world renown world champion in Taekwondo, his level of instruction is also world class. Quality of Instruction: Master Kim is able to engage with students at their level- make it fun yet also challenge each child to strive for perfection in form and practice. My boys absolutely love their classes and always look forward to it. We also enrolled my four year old daughter and she loved it too. Quality of Form/Practice: We were able to attend two different local tournaments in USA and in Korea. My oldest received a gold and silver medal, and my youngest received two silvers. I didn't realize the difference in their forms until we were able to objectively see them compared to other peers from different dojangs. Master Kim makes sure their forms are literally perfect. He is precise, encouraging, yet makes sure that our kids are getting the best Taekwondo instructions in order to make them the best in their own way. Quality of Character: We have been able to see Master Kim walk the talk of the five tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. From the moment we contacted JiSung Taekwondo, we have felt very welcomed. They were very accommodating (due to her school schedule) with getting our daughter a trial lesson. After our daughter's trial session, we immediately signed her up for twice weekly sessions and our daughter has been having a blast since. She looks forward to attending Master Kim's lessons every week (everyday if she could!). Master Kim is very engaging, encouraging and most of all, makes learning Taekwondo very fun for our 6 year old. It's been great to watch the lessons as well. She started at 4.5 yrs old and in the 6 months of going twice a week to Taekwondo, she has: - improved her confidence - able to speak up more/not whisper - increased in coordination skills Master Kim, his colleague Carol, and the Black Belt assistants have been extremely helpful, nice, positive and caring to everyone (little kids, teens, adults). Their 1:1 time in class with everyone is phenomenal and I'm always blown away at the quality of time spent on each student. My 4 year old daughter did her trial at Jisung about two weeks ago and we eventually decided to sign her up for taekwondo here for the long haul. We were initially very impressed with the trial. They make a huge effort to have the child feel included, powerful and extremely important. They basically do a one on one class for your very first time there. They even have the kid break a board and keep it, which you can imagine is an incredible feeling for a child. They also give you a uniform! The same uniform everyone else uses, so it's great quality. For your second trial, the child will be in the class with the other kids. This didn't go as well for us, because my daughter was apprehensive about working with Master Kim, and he was so patient and understanding of this. He came outside to speak with us and asked if we'd want to come back for more trial classes. We definitely did! We wanted to see if our daughter would come around and work with Master Kim, because if she didn't, it probably wouldn't work out, since he's the main instructor. But if she did come around, it was obvious she had the potential to learn so much from Jisung. Discipline, listening skills, motivation, determination, not to mention the physical skills and benefits of doing taekwondo. We came back and she eventually warmed up to him and we are very hopeful for all the great things that can come from this investment. In addition, Miss Sahar and Miss Joy are great instructors as well. Miss Sahar has worked with my daughter several times and always makes her feel heard and important. They are all very skilled at teaching the kids the correct way to act during taekwondo without using the word "no" or pointing out that they did anything wrong. So I think these methods are what make the environment so fun for even little children. We are so excited about what may come from this and can't wait to see our daughter bloom from being a Jisung member. We did trial another Kung Fu class nearby, and I do have to say that the specific attention Master Kim gives you as a potential client is one of the main reasons we decided to go with him. You can tell he understands the importance of making every one feel valued, and even though they're very little kids, they're just as important to the business and maybe it's even more important to pay them attention because they can be so sensitive and fickle. Compared to the other place we trialed, the owner/main instructor never even introduced himself to us, and definitely didn't take any extra time to get to know my daughter. It's the little things that go far! It is also very conveniently located and easy to park and attend classes! read more
