I was driving from Nashville to Cincinnati and picked Frankfort as a place to get out of the car and walk for an hour. Not one to resist a craft store, I decided I could pop in for a minute or two. I perused the store for over an hour and left with $400 worth of merchandise. Completely Kentucky is, in my opinion, the best crafts store in the US. This is not a store where you go to "get a deal." The merchandise is priced so the artists can be decently compensated and the store can keep its lights on. That means not cheap. But coming from the left coast, I thought the prices were very reasonable. When it comes to wood and clay crafts, Kentucky knocks it out of the park. But this store features artists working in every manner of medium. Their commitment to providing a spot to as many Kentucky artists and crafts people as possible is impressive. I love this store. The day after I discovered them I started saving for my next visit. My goal is the have minimum $1000 to spend and to also bring along an empty suitcase so I can get all my loot back home. :)

I called just recently to inquire about my balance and was told that it was over $400, which would have included the certificate with the expiration date and the one without. I just took both physical certificates into the store and not only would they not accept the expired one, which I could kind of understand (even though gift certificates are paid for and should theoretically NEVER expire), they also refused to honor the certificate WITHOUT an expiration date. I was told that they "decided in their last quarterly meeting that they expired now." She also told me that she could not give me the paper certificates back and that she had to keep and shred them. What a nasty way to treat people. Please do not spend your money here!

Since the next business day would have been too late for my needs, we mutually agreed to cancel the order. The problem is that despite canceling the order, they never refunded my money. I emailed twice with no response. After waiting about a week, I called and was told they had "no idea" what I was talking about and claimed they never charged me -- even though I have both an online receipt and the charge on my credit card statement. Their response was essentially to dispute it with my credit card company and "leave them alone." I did dispute the charge and also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Even the BBB received delays, evasions, and contradictory information from this company. After nearly six months of trying to resolve this, I've given up on getting honest customer service from this florist. I normally avoid leaving negative reviews, but I want to warn others: be very cautious when ordering from this business. My experience was extremely frustrating, unprofessional, and ultimately cost me both time and money.

The emphas is on quality linens, writing paper, gifts, and china, and artwork M-L has a wedding registry, carries antiques, and there is a great selection of local art. This is a great place to get a gift for a female friend, a wife, a mother, a daughter, but there is cool stuff for men here, too. The owner is preservation-minded which makes me like her all the more, and the gift wrap is unique. You'll have no problem finding the store next to the Sayre School. There are always textiles hanging from the line in front to signal that M-L is open. This is the kind of store Lexington deserves. If only M-L had a small place to eat or have a drink, I think more people would come to this Lexington gem.
