Since COVID-19, they are now requiring masks in order for you to enter. When I visited, everyone complied. The prices here vary. Sometimes an item will be vastly cheaper than from somewhere else and others will be much more expensive. But, this is a co-op so whatever you pay will go back to local farmers and product owners so I think it's worth it either way. There aren't a ton of aisles but they have a relatively good freezer section (and even had a sale for 2/$7 Ben and Jerry's ice cream!). Their coffee shop is really cute too. I didn't go inside the book store but it's right next to the coffee shop which also offers snacks and has a small sitting area for you to eat a snack or finish your coffee.

The new owners, a corporation owning 6-8 other restaurants have CHANGED almost all the recipes for breads, cakes , wonderous cookies and 80 % of all pastries! No more butter, no more fine ingredients and no more of their once " Grossinger's taste/quality" STELLAR seeded rye bread! They even eliminated the lemon flavoring. In their incomparable lemon coconut cake! Their stuffed cabbage is one of their only true deli dishes left. Sandwiches are half their original size...... heart breaking after going there 3-4 times a week for 25 years........ Cecil's of course had to cut back on the $$ use of butter in their pastries. But they have WORKED VERY HARD to still retain their wonderous long long ago heart warming flavors. ALL their sandwiches are AUTHENTIC. Old world New York City flavors! Made with care and love. Scott and Stu had dedication and sheer love of cooking and baking with the BEST of ingredients and exquisite rare perfect use of spices. Their flavors in everything they touched were some of the VERY BEST I have experienced nationally and in my home state of NY where my father taught Biochemistry in the Bronx at Einstein Med School (1955-1980) and where my intense passion for Delicatessen cuisine originated. Coming almost daily to Crossroads truly made my day! I adored EVERYTHING they created. Even shipped a large lemon coconut cake to mom's beloved 90 year old boss at Scarsdale Medical Center 8 years ago! Today: Their rye bread with caraway seeds was identical to Grossinger's. Now almost zero flavor. The broasted chicken if served hot fresh out of the cooker is still excellent. Some of the original spices gone. The lemon coconut cake has zero real lemon flavor just deep yellow coloring, Their pastrami and corned beef also lost 1/3 to 1/2 of their original flavor plus the size of the sandwiches 1/3-1/2 the original size. The new main dishes are almost tasteless. Their original recipes for matzo ball soup, etc are still good - - vary 8-10 rating. They no longer use as much/ perhaps any butter in their coffee cake " breads" which used to be a 10. Many cookies and tiny pastries in the same display case are still good. Compared to many other restaurants today they are now just " an ok". Gone are the days when Crossroads Deli was " TRULY SPECTACULAR "......

Seriously good food in a city that is truthfully lacking. From breakfast to brunch to craft coffee shop, you're covered here. I started coming here during high school. Not much has changed. In the greatest of ways. Sandwiches figure prominently on the menu, with good reason. Prices are reasonable. The only downside, in my opinion, is the hours. If you can't get here relatively early in the day, you'll be saddened with a closed sign. But this probably helps drive the demand, to be honest. There are no other places in the area that are zeroed in on what these guys are doing very well, so kudos to the staff and management of this place. Can't wait to return.
