Jim's will NEVER rip you off with a weak drink; they have strong drinks at killer prices. It's a nice place to go when you want to avoid the "bros" at Skinner's and the clubbers at the 9. The mood here is always super chill. You never have to worry about having to listen to that latest Rihanna single that's driving you crazy or watching a group of underaged girls having a catfight. You're safe from all that BS as soon as you step into Jim's...just avoid the occasional creepers sitting at the bar! Cash only. There's an ATM inside. One of the signature drinks is called the "Backpacker." You can get it by the pitcher and save some dough. I've tasted it and it's surprisingly delicious (despite the florescent green hue), but I never order it anymore because it's made with Mountain Dew and gives me gut rot. :) If your stomach can handle some soda, try this drink! If you're in Brookings and looking for a place to drink, perhaps you should consider Jim's Tap. Based on the name, I thought we were going to a bit of a sports bar. When we walked into the place, I quickly realized my assessment was wrong. Jim's Tap is a Medieval-themed bar at least in the decor. It was sort of like being in an episode of "Game of Thrones" only with no blood or boinking or that punk Joffrey. I wish Joffrey was there. I would kick him in the nuts and then punch him in the face. And then start yelling: "Who's on top and who's on bottom now!?" But I digress ... No servers were dressed in any sort of steward or beer wench costume, but credit is not accepted. Don't worry. You don't have to pay in gold or silver, but you do need to pay with American cash. The walls are decorated with swords. The place also is dimly lit. The tables and chairs aren't so much Medieval though ... they're more like old school lounge bar ... the chairs are comfy. I went here twice while visiting Brookings. The first time our host purchased a pitcher of a green concoction and a pinkish drink. The green was some melon mixed drink. The pinkish colored one was called, I believe, an Apple Packer. Both tasted like Sweet Tarts mixed with Pixie Stix. Not really my thing, but I guess it's nice to have the option. The second time, I had a beer. It was Monty Python's Holy Grail on tap. This is not the best beer, but it's nice to see they tried to have the bar theme incorporated into the beer list. Both nights we sat outside. It was a little chilly, but not bad in part because there is a great fire place on the patio. If you are doing hardcore parcore though, be careful of the grill. One person in our group accidentally knocked the lid off of the grill while doing hardcore parcore. We received a finger wag over it, but the server seemed to understand it was an accident. In summary, get cash. Go to Jim's. Drink. And drink some outside by fire. read more

Jim's does not care about your review, and that's what makes them great. If you wanna look at weird, medieval decor, if you like your drinks strong, and if you're looking for the best shot of hearing Led Zeppelin played, Jim's is your kinda place. The inside is a bit tight, and the bathrooms are tiny, but there's a fire out back and a couple of dart boards to keep you entertained. It's an SDSU student's rite of passage to finish off their own pitcher of Backpacker. read more

My drink tasted funny so I asked bartender Ian about it and he got all pissed and started yelling at me from behind the bar. So I left it alone but Ian wouldn't stop bitching at me. I finally just got up and left, leaving a full drink on the table. What a prick!!! read more

Jim's Tap is a great place to go for a beer. They also mix the stiffest drinks in town. They're decorated with medieval gear, complete with swords, fireplaces, and a boars head. They have good (pretty level, not broken) foosball tables, and if you're searching for a game, this is where to look. Great back patio in the summer time with a big outdoor fire. For a place called Jim's Tap they do not have too many beers on tap. Bartender was very friendly and everyone there was very mellow, so I liked the atmosphere a lot. Had a lot of medieval things around which made for an interesting environment. read more

Jim's Tap has been in Brookings forever. It hasnt changed. At All. No Really I mean It! Jims is a great classic bar. Can be dark on the inside. Drinks are farely priced and they have some big fishbowls of cheap alcohol for college kids. Tends to be quieter and more grown up earlier in the evening. Usually Jim's isn't open until 730 at night on weekdays. The bar has the same carpet from the 70's I'm guessing (dark Red). The walls are faux wood paneling and faux rock, with medieval swords armor and helmets. The front window is covered with the fake plastic glass with circles from the 70's in yellow and red. Bathrooms are tight and very small. The fireplace outside is very nice and the outdoor patio has great ambiance on a cool night. Fun in the summer too. No food available but Georges Pizza is next door if you want to get takeout. The bartenders are really good and make the place move regardless of the size of the crowd. read more

I love this place. It has a very cool feel about it. The drinks are priced well and poured strong! The best thing about this bar is I left my iPhone there and they had it waiting for me the next morning. They are even an honest bar. Loved Jim's! Try it out! read more
