We were traveling to Lake District and wanted to taste something Asian. It was too much of fish and chips + too much English lunch and dinner. We wanted to get a take away. We were offered the menu cards. The waitress was unable to explain the dish types when asked specific question about the menu. I ordered Gaeng Ba Gai (Thai jungle chicken curry). It was good. I am basically from US and have tasted at various Thai places, the chicken always accompanied rice without extra cost. We were asked to order rice separately which is unusual for us which I found is a norm in UK. Overall, little crampy place with narrow entry stairs to dine in good place but good food. Our food was perfectly mellowed to the spice level we had requested. Not giving five stars due to coldness of the waitress and unable explain the menu of her own restaurant. Probably the best option for a vegetarian that we found in all of Bowness - loved it! We went on a Monday evening and it was busy but we got a table in less than five minutes. We shared the veggie spring rolls between us then I had the aubergine curry and my boyfriend had duck and ginger and we shared coconut rice between us. It was all completely delicious and came really quickly! I would definitely go back. From the veggie perspective, tbh the competition in Bowness isn't great (though there are specifically veggie restaurants in Ambleside). It's usually one grudging option on an otherwise meat-with-meat-on-the-side menu, and it's nearly always a mushroom. This place has veggie starters (4 or 5) and a whole section of mains. I've had a lot of good Thai cuisine in the states and this spot is probably at the bottom of my list. Absolutely terrible food. Crab cakes tasted like cold frozen chicken nuggets. The Mango margarita was a blend of kids pulpy overly sweet mango juice with a dash of tequila. Now to the main course - disaster. The jasmine rice was probably the best piece...which they forgot to bring until the end of the meal. Holy basil chicken (gai pad grapow) wasn't even remotely close to what it's supposed to taste like. The cook's last job was definitely a burger flipper at the local fast food joint. My husband and I are visiting the UK from the US and arrived today in Windermere. We adore Thai cuisine and eat it all the time. The restaurant is beautiful inside with much attention to details which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest of the story isn't so good...... We ordered four dishes from the dinner menu---things we are very familiar with. The papaya salad was ok, the stir fried eggplant was good and the coconut rice was divine. The Phad Kee Mao was INEDIBLE which is sad as we order it regularly and love it. We ordered it with tofu (instead of meat) and it arrived with ZERO tofu and almost no veggies. Basically it was thin noodles (instead of the traditional wide noodles) with the nastiest acrid flavor. After each of us sampled it, we handed the plate to the waitress, who is from Thailand, and told her it was awful and we cannot eat it. The dish was 90% untouched. (we each consumed 5%). At the end of the meal, we were charged for the Phad Kee Mao that we did not eat and quietly mentioned it to the waitress and told her we didn't want to pay for a dish we returned. She said NO and told us everyone else likes it!!! Then she went to the pile of dirty dishes and brought us back our returned dish of food (90% remaining) and told us we ate half of it!!!!! I DON'T THINK SO!!! She refused to remove the charge and we asked to speak to the manager whom she claimed was not there. Then she said she would take 10% off the charge of the dish and we said NO as we didn't eat it. On an on it went. Finally, from upstairs, a British employee came down and we told him the situation. He was deeply concerned with our story and when he saw the dish full of food that the waitress said we had eaten half of, he had had quite enough. He then told her to remove the charge from our bill. He was very apologetic and clearly felt awful that his co-worker was so unreasonable. We suspect that she was reprimanded afterwards. The customer is always right when in a service industry; you don't fight with them. When someone likes an establishment they tell a few people. When they dislike an establishment, they tell EVERYONE. read more

Amazing food and authentic taste! I've been to this restaurant multiple times and every time I've enjoyed the food immensely. I've got an appetite for hot food and they deliver - the rest of the party were happy too, with more "calm" options to please every palate! We fancied a chinese meal while staying in Windermere, but as it was Chinese New Year, most of them were shut. We passed Jintana and popped in to book a table as it was Saturday night. My hubby is a vegetarian and the menu looked gorgeous as did the smells when we went in. It was very busy and after waiting 20 minutes at our table we ordered our drinks and food. The starters were delicious when they arrived (approx 40 mins after ordering them) I had thai fishcakes which were still sizzling when they arrived with hubby having deep fried tofu. We then waited a good hour for our main courses to be delivererd (at one point the waitress asked if we had finished our meals and wanted the bill!) The main meals were nice, though not too plentiful with the side dishes of rice barely enough for one person. The bill finally arrived and was wrong but this was probably because of the business of the place. All in all, the food was lovely but we had a long wait and the service was not the best. I would recommend booking a table if it's a weekend as we had to wait an hour. read more

We had the best meal of our entire trip at Jintana Thai. I'm gluten AND onion intolerant and they handled my allergies with ease. I had a curry for the first time in forever (because usually curries are pre-made with onion) and it was absolutely delicious. Their cocktails and desserts were phenomenal as well. We have been here many, many times over the last few years and have always been highly satisfied. However! On our last visit, a couple of weeks ago we noticed a decided drop in standards. The chicken was rubbery, the portion sizes were smaller and it just wasn't up to the standard we have come to expect. I have awarded 4 stars more on past visits rather than our last visit which was more like a 2 or 3. read more
