But one thing I love more than the ice cream they offer in supermarkets, is the return of Magnolia Flavor House. Dining there is really a walk down memory lane. It feels reminiscent of those after-school trips you take to Manila when you're picking up your supply of boyscout/girlscout items (in that one store beside it). The branches they now have even look like the old ice cream parlour we used to visit from the vintage lighting to the staff uniform. This time around, they're offering more than just ice cream. While they still have old favorites like Bert and Ernie, they have an extensive selection of burgers, pastas and pizzas. They pizza is big enough for 4 people and is ultra-cheesy. Their burgers are thick and juicy and again, they don't scrimp on the cheese. This is one of my favorite places for some Sunday bonding with my little girl to introduce to her some of the classics I used to love...and apparently still do. Special tip: If you're hankering for some mais con yelo but couldn't find any, try their corn and cheese ice cream. It's a refreshing change that satisfies the cold corn craving.

With the nostalgia factor that Magnolia Flavor House brings though, this is somewhere better experienced with company than somewhere you'd go alone for lunch. I'm sure most people remember the original Magnolia Flavor House that used to stand where Robinson's Magnolia (hence the name) now is. I for one remember going when I was a tiny thing and it was probably the first place I ever had a proper sundae. So imagine my surprise when they actually opened one in SM North. The products that the store sells will determine if the kakanin station will survive and prosper, or head for the wayside and follow countless businesses that went bankrupt. It's all in the taste. Luckily for TFJ Kakanin Station, some of their products pass the test. TFC retails such comfort foods as suman sa lihiya, sapinsapin, dinuguan and puto, biko, and maja blanca, among others. Whether all of the products are made in their kitchen or supplied by outsiders, what's important is that consumers like some or all of them enough to want to buy the local foods again and again. I've only tried their biko and suman, and I found the taste to my liking. It would be unfair to pass judgment on all of their products without testing them first. For now, I will wait until I've tried at least a majority of the kakanin that they sell, but so far, so good.

We came in sep'fore a waiter came to take our orders. He seemed surly but we were all peeved, and made our feelings known. After he took our orders, we thought our ordeal would be over. It wasn't. I swear it took close to an hour for our meals to get to our table. I don't know if it was our collective bad mood, but the food didn't taste all that good to any of us. As far as I know, none of us have ever gone back to President Tea House. What for? There are so many great restaurants in Chinatown, so why bother giving this a second chance?

They all come in different shapes, sizes, tastes and after-tastes. But only one restaurant fulfills my craving every time - Barrio Fiesta. Now I know that there are a lot of Barrio Fiesta's around the Metro especially those located in malls. But do trust me when I say, that this Edsa brand is the only branch you should come visit. The places used to be a lot bigger but they remodeled it a few years ago to look a lot more modern with ample parking spaces and better food presentation. The food, however, is still 5-star for me. Kare-kare is cooking with the perfect consistence and the amazing mixture of peanut sauce that can make for a meal in itself. Tender beef and fresh vegetables are always a plus as I have never found myself complain about this dish - ever.
