Best cheese scones ever. Served with home made raspberry jam - worth stopping by just for that.

Drove from Red Deer to Lacombe to check out this little cafe as a friend had found them on…read moreInstagram and their food looked really appetizing and healthy. When we arrived, there was only one other group dining. It was a little bit confusing on whether to ask for a menu and order at the counter or to sit and wait to be served. No biggie - after inquiring, the gal behind the bar told us to take a menu and have a seat. Our party of three found a cute table, helped ourselves to some water and perused the menu. We waited a little uncomfortably long to be approached then found out it was the waitresses first day on the job and there was nobody there to assist her. She was waiting tables and making drinks from the extensive list of smoothies and coffees. About 20 minutes later, the manager or owner came rolling into the restaurant. We ordered the Kale Caesar and few different Avocado Toasts. My friends Caesar salad was meant to have tempeh on it but came out as basically greens with lemon juice squeezed on top for $17. The toasts were fine but nothing better than you could make at home. The salad was so disappointing that my friend actually kindly approached the owner/manager to let her know of the let down and asked about the tempeh. She was explained that they could no longer get tempeh from their supplier. Seemed like a pretty easy fix to reprint the paper menu. I think there is a market for these little plant based eateries and I want to see them succeed but this one was severely underwhelming.

Tollers Bistro's food is certainly worthy but since each of its previous five ratings are fives, I'll go against the grain with a four, as there is always room for improvement. Located in a small strip mall, it's a high ceiling open space that lends itself well to safe dining. Tables are nicely separated and booths have guards between them. However, there is no sanitizer available at the entrance and I noticed the waitress seating customers without masks, so a little more effort regarding patron's safety would be nice. The food is excellent. Great menu, lots of choice and really interesting. We did some sharing, fish tacos, sweet potato fries, and cauliflower bites. Fish was battered, not normally my favourite, but was light and really tasty. Maybe the best sweet potatoes ever and the cauliflower bites are a meal, lightly breaded and tasty, maybe too big to be shared with just two people, most of ours came home. Staff is friendly and attentive. Waitress didn't know the beer list and suggested I "go look", which is fine but there weren't that many to remember. She did, however, bring us a takeaway box without being asked as she noticed the cauliflower bites still lingering on the plate. I can agree with the previous fives, but there is always room for improvement, at Tollers it's just some attention to detail. Great spot!

The lemon glaze had just the perfect amount of tart! Was a difficult decision choosing a doughnut flavour. The iced coffee with English toffee was just perfect for this sunny Alberta morning. All the reviews are correct. It's a must stop coffee shoppe. Easily one of my favourites when I come 'home' to Lacombe.

I have loved every beer I have ever tried here. This time, I had the Mezcalita, lemons and limes, dang orange wheat ale and coffee stout. The food menu is also outstanding. We had the chips and dip trio and blackened chicken tacos. I like that this brewery has both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as games to play. Dogs are allowed on the patio too!

We had our dog with us and thankfully, they have a very dog-friendly patio with cozy couches and lawn games. Pro-tip: go to the dog park across the street first and find the flyer offering a free pint! My husband and I started by ordering a flight of 4. I specifically asked the bartender for 4 beers I wouldn't normally be able to get in Edmonton and he had some great suggestions. I especially liked their 24-2 Brett Stock Ale which we ended up buying a couple bottles of to bring home. They also make an excellent sour. Blindman is great and definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Lacombe, but if you don't, their beers are sold in stores all across the province and they offer delivery in Calgary, Edmonton, and parts of central Alberta.

For me it was the meatloaf sandwich and for my partner it was Chipotle Turkey Bacon. They use really thick slices of bread that some may like and others might find too filling. My meatloaf sandwich was only $10.50 which is good value. The Chipotle Sandwich was a bit more at $13.50 but that's still reasonable. I had a coffee too. It was fine, though nothing special. WiFi is free but not password protected. It was nice inside the cafe. Very roomy and not too loud nor too quiet. It was easy to carry on a conversation. I enjoyed my sandwich but it was a bit large. Still this could be my new go to cafe when I'm hungry on the QEII. I recommend it.

The menu is well focused on two things: Soup and Sandwich - the greatest lunch love-story of all time, with a pickle on the side ;). I'm not even going to ramble on with all of the delicious, fresh, local foodie highlights or even mention the cheesecakes (DARNIT, they're just so good!). If you want to keep your calories in check, make any sandwich a salad. That way it cancels out the cinnamon bun appetizer, probably. I have been coming here for years but never wrote a review in an attempt to selfishly keep the lunch-rush lineup at a minimum; but alas, the good word has clearly gotten out. So best to call your order in ahead of time if you're in a hurry - do NOT rush these lovely ladies in their craft, they are hustling HARD.
