A friend mentioned that her son had been taking jiujitsu classes since he was 4 years old at a nearby studio that she highly recommended. I looked up WJJ was pleasantly surprised to learn of the affordable starter package for kids. Dr. Quynh made the enrollment process seamless and my son felt at home right away. He loved his first class and was very taken with how one of his classmates received a sticker in honor of how he respected his senseis and mentored his peers. For the second class, I brought my older son (8 years) with me for pick up and he immediately asked if he could also join (he did ). We love the principles of jiujitsu - respect, self control, hard work, and perhaps most importantly for children, delay of gratification - all foundational lessons that will shape my children's outlook and work ethic for years to come. We adore the instructors Dr. Quynh, Coaches Jalen and Charles, and Professor Nobou (5th in the world for his weight class!). They are knowledgable, skilled, patient, encouraging, and always make class fun for little ones. I can honestly say that Professor Nobuo and his team of instructors have successfully created a balanced culture for the seasoned hobbyists and fierce competitors of this gentle art. I've taken classes with Instructor Gaviao twice now... I always feel so comfortable and accomplished... even though I do not practice as I should. My father was a Martial Artist, so to be around some good people who really enjoy the arts and take pride in themselves and the practice of Capoeira. I definitely plan to go again.
