I'm an older woman with no children -- the chair has hardly been used. Unfortunately, after just over a year, flaws have come up in the upholstry. Elan/Verve Design + Workshop doesn't stand behind their product in any way. They want $1,400 to fix it. No offer of any kind of help other than to look for a cheaper upholstery shop to do repairs, but haven't heard back in 2 months. I expected so much better in quality and service. Save your money.

We heard about Elan through a friend and ended up buying all of our furniture (couch, chair and storage ottoman) from there. Not only is everything made in Winnipeg, it's made with high quality materials and a hardwood frame. You also get to pick out your fabrics so you can custom design your furniture. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They care as much about how good something will look in your home as you do. For the price (which is extremely comparable to every major store), you get 5x the quality and style. We love Elan!

None of the details of how it would look once it was finished was discussed so we assumed he would recover it with the fabric we chose so it would look similar to the original look. When we went to pick it up after being told over the phone that we would be 'very happy', as we walked up to it we could see the staples in the fabric. There were also edges of the fabric visible instead of being tucked underneath. He insisted that the staples will hide over time. WHAT!?! And that the frayed fabric showing wasn't important or a problem. As we expressed our concern about the staples showing he kept saying, 'no, no it looks great. you're very happy'. Which of course, we were not. He just wasn't hearing us. It was very frustrating trying to communicate with him. As unhappy as we were with the finished job, he wasn't offering to fix anything for us. With the lines of communication being so weak with him (the owner) we just paid for the item and took it somewhere else to get fixed. Lesson learned. You get what you pay for. In this case, we got a sloppy upholstery job done on a very valuable, family heirloom with very poor customer service. Spend the extra money and take your items to The Furniture Guy in St. James like we ended up doing. He'll do a fantastic job and go over every detail before any work is done. Worth every penny.
