I was excited for Sunday to arrive at 2 o'clock I was there promptly waiting with my tango shoes ready to take on a class I was told was going to be great. There was a variety of levels in the class and that's understandable as always. Then Alexey introduced us methodically to some steps and practice run. A very good teacher for the beginners and I was happy to get the chance to dance with someone who knew his steps. But I was confused as I was told our instructor would be Eran... but the lesson was sufficiently styled again for beginners. Then suddenly without much explanation a man named George took over the second half of the class and the structure completely disappeared. He repeated all that Alexey had spoke of and was absolutely over talked, under demonstrated and --sorry but as an Argentine milonguera and tango lyrics translator,-- I could not help but find it condescending to be instructed on the culture of tango by a Jewish Long Islander... it turned me off completely and 45 minutes later when we finally got a chance to practice what he called rock step and grapevine (terms unheard of in tango), I was done. Also one note: if you are a male beginning dancer please refrain from instructing the female out loud as if you knew more than she. Just Keep quiet, lead correctly and get out of her way so you don't trip, step, or block her. Men lead but do not rule. Take note. I've been searching for lessons around town and will continue to do so. Shame it was a shambles of a class.

I had high hopes of becoming a student at this studio November 2014. I'm the kind of person that knows exactly what I want when it comes to a dance studio; to perform showcases and dance with a partner that we both establish a great connection. Someone who enjoys teaching the way I enjoy learning. I was partnered with "Sasha" and he was nothing like that. Sasha a poor choice in every way. Strictly business, insulting, and instructed just to make money. We had four weeks until a showcase. He hated the song and dance I chose for our routine; we honestly just didnt see eye to eye on anything. I wanted to quit after the first lesson. The night of the showcase was a joke.. 30+ performers? I didnt perform until two hours later. Oh, and if you didnt pay the rediculous fee for dinner AND your performance, you were not allowed to eat that night nor sit. Rediculous. Also, Sasha was 45 min late so we barely had time to practice before we performed. He never aknowledged my existence that night, nor said goodbye when he left. I wrote a letter to the owner, Irina, explaining the whole situation as I'm telling it now. Nothing. No phone call, email, nothing. Just to "write a yelp review!" Here it is. Poor way to run your business when you charge rediculous prices.

We definitely procrastinated as we waited till 3 weeks before our wedding to set up lessons, however that did not seem to be an issue for the people at the Ballroom of Huntington. They heard about our time constraint and immediately worked with us to get us into the studio as soon as possible. They are open late which is beneficial for our schedule. We were paired with Dennis who is an angel of a human being. He is a great teacher and was able to create choreography for our first dance and make it unique. He was very accommodating and even came in on a Sunday when the studio is closed to get us an additional lesson. By the end of our 4th lesson, we were ready to perform at our wedding and we only wish Dennis was there to witness it as I know he would have been very proud of us. The studio itself is a large space, however everyone practices in the same space regardless of if you are there for a group lesson or private lesson. It didn't make much of a difference to me and it provided us with a little audience. They have a great speaker system so they can play whatever song you want for your dance. The cost was on the higher end for what I expected, but I don't know what the cost of private lessons normally runs. Ultimately, we are very happy with our decision to use Ballroom of Huntington to learn our first dance.
