Ordering from their online store is great because they send you numerous updates about the status of your purchase when it is shipped. If you want to support a great local company in Athens, you can't go wrong with Ohio is HOME. The staff is friendly and you can buy just about anything Ohio themed (except for apparel from that one other university in Columbus with Ohio in its name).

They have a wide selection of superior quality shoes. The prices range from $50-60 through, over $100. They carry keen shoes and are now carrying Vans. I can't say much for the quality of vans. I do have a pair of pro vans skate shoes, but vans range in quality at different stores. To be honest I am sure Import House is only carrying vans because they have become a fad within the past few years. Import House has a good selection of stretched ear jewelry ranging in sizes from very small at a 8 or 10 gauge all the way up to fractional inch sizes. They also carry some body jewelry. Included in their jewelry counter is locally customer made jewelry. Import House is Divided in half. One side with smoking accessories and the other side with mainly shoes clothes and jewelry.

However, one inside the store, there is an overbearing, off-putting smell of patchouli. As a college student, I thought the store items were overpriced for the relatively low quality, and the clothing was not size inclusive (too many junior-sized items). The owner's unprofessional behavior is also a reason why I do not enjoy this store. I've known people who worked here, and they described what was a hostile work environment where they were subjected to verbal abuse, and I witnessed this firsthand. On one occasion, I was in line at the counter with an item in my hand, ready to make a purchase (earrings I believe?), but after hearing how rudely she spoke to an employee in front of me, I decided not to buy them. If that's how she acted in front of customers, I can only imagine how she behaves in private. The owner has been in the news for her bigoted, transphobic views, which are on display in the storefront windows. In doing this, she has clearly made a connection between her political views and her store, so this is why I find it fair to comment on them in this review. I was not a fan of this store before, but this is yet another reason not to support this business.

One of the local celebrities (Mike Todd) I follow on Twitter was sent a mask early on in COVID that was made by The Fabric Shop. It was an awesome Ohio University mask. I reached out to the shop by telephone and they were willing to charge me over the phone and ship me a mask. The customer service was phenomenal. The mask arrived quickly and they did not gouge me on pricing for either the mask or the shipping. It was extremely reasonable. During this entire pandemic the only mask I used was my awesome Bobcat mask until I lost it last week. I quickly called up The Fabric Shop and they of course gave me the same service as before. The employee let me know that they use whatever OU fabric they have on hand so the pattern of the mask may be different. I told her it did not bother me at all as long as it was still an Ohio University mask. And for this order I went ahead an ordered two just in case I carelessly lose one again. Though I did hold on to the first one for 9 months straight. Pretty good I think. My masks just arrived yesterday and I love the fabric even more. As oppose to white before, this time the main color is green with the Attack Cat. They are perfect. Such a great fit for my face. This is a great little quilt shop right on Main Street across from the river. Plenty of nearby…read moreparking (meters) but cheap! The staff is helpful, friendly and know their stuff. Had lots of samples for quilts, needlework and other types of projects. Fabrics are displayed so you can easily see what they have. All the latest lines! Definitely worth the stop even if you are traveling on I-77!
