This store seems severely understaffed, which is immediately obvious from the mess. Boxes are piled high on the sales floor, giving the place the feel of a thrift store--or as another reviewer put it, "an attic." While the fabric prices are unbeatable compared to other craft stores and the selection is broad, the shopping experience can be frustrating. Bolts of fabric collected in piles. I was confused if this was reshop or clearance. I couldn't find anyone on the sales floor except an associate cutting fabric and the cashier at the front. Service is incredibly hit-or-miss, and long lines are a real problem. I try to go in the morning to avoid waiting, but even then, the store still feels chaotic. If you need cheap fabric and can tolerate the disorganization, it might be worth the trip. read more

I have shopped at Joann's for years. Today I visited the store to get some fabric for doll clothes, only to find out once I selected my fabric and was ready to have it cut that they no longer cut less than 1 yard and ONLY cut full yards . Sadly, I was totally out of luck for the 1/4 yard pieces I needed. If you need 1 1/2 yards, you must get 2 yards; they will cut only increments of 1 yard. I put the fabric and the rest of the things in my cart back and left the store. I will be shopping elsewhere. SAD !!! read more

This store can really be a hit or miss. It tends to be pretty disorganized and sort of reminds me of an attic. The lines are normally another hit or miss sometimes they're empty other times you're standing there for 10 minutes, either way I can guarantee there will only be two cashiers. The reason why I give four stars though is because regardless of how busy or messy I've always been able to find what I need and the customer service is always pleasant and helpful. Just about everyone who works there is nice, good for conversation, and willing to help and I think that's worth the waiting times and the unorganized space. read more

I like this location! Didn't even know it was back here until recently when I came for the first time. I was helping my mom do some arrangements for a memorial service. We went to several different stores but ended up here and found the exact flowers we were looking for and they were on sale! The store was very clean and the employees were friendly! This place is a treasure trove of stuff and I love it! They had an entire 7ft tall round free standing wall thing full of scissors. SCISSORS! Officially I was there to get no sew tape, and I did indeed get some, but I proceeded to wander the aisles just loving all the doodads and bits and pieces every where. I found a nice little rotating makeup storage container that's the perfect size for my bathroom storage piece, and I so happened to find it when all storage was 50% off. It was one of the best items I bought all weekend and it was $5. Only thing was staff was pretty sparse. I don't think I saw one team member on the floor. The check out line was fairly long too. I would say Joann needs to staff for the weekends better. Otherwise, good trip. read more

This store is a total disaster. Boxes everywhere, trash on the floor, no stock on the shelves. I can't tell you how many times I've gone in to grab something like machine needles, thread, bobbins and the shelves are empty. I can't find a thing in this place so it's a wasted trip. I will start going somewhere else (Michaels, Walmart, Hobby lobby) or go out of my way to another Joannes. I haven't purchased anything at this store the last 3 times I've gone in. unprofessional. had to call corporate to find out they cancelled my order because they did not have the fabric. never sent notification. never answer their phones. unprofessional and I will never walk in or order online for pick up at this location. one thing that grinds my gears is when people don't answer their phones. I called back to back for an hour this morning for no one to answer. it's a shame i had to contact corporate on them due to their lack of professionalism. have some class... If you don't like your job find another one so that real professional people can run Joann's appropriately. I've been to several Joann's in the Maryland area, it's worst than Wheaton. At least Wheaton answers the phone and actually sends out email notifications accordingly. read more

ALWAYS UNDERSTAFFED!!! Super long and slow moving line - takes FOREVER to pay and checkout. This is always the case here - absolutely terrible. Joannes obviously doesn't think your time is worth anything. Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere that gives a about customer service - this place sure doesn't. This terrible level of service seems to be a systemic problem across all of their stores over a long length of time. read more

The weekend seems like the worst time to go. They never have more than 2 people on the registers. Waited over 20 mins to be rung up. No management insight an the line was all the way back to fabric section. Cashier stated its normal to have only 8 people working in the store. Those 8 people were not on the register. read more

They should be called Hobby Lobby II because all they have is crafty stuff.....they do not have fabric anymore! I asked the staff and they said the management had made the decision to reduce the Home Decorator and fabric department. VERY LITTLE FABRIC AT JOANNE FABRIC!!!!!! I was here today and after 20 minutes waiting in line (I was only the 2nd customer behind them), I finally got to the register. The girl at the counter was extremely inept, very slow and didn't know how to take a Michael's Reward voucher. She called the manager and even after waiting all that time, they didn't know how to do it. I finally left without my puchase and went to the Michael's in Hanover near Arundel Mills. In and out, using my voucher, in a few minutes! If you want service, avoid Columbia and go to Arundel Mills! read more

I stopped in here today to pick up some fleece fabric since they were having a sale. The store itself seemed to be pretty clean and organized, but it was the service that was lacking. I must have waited 30-45min to get my fabric cut. There were also no employees out on the floor to answer my questions, so I ended up asking fellow Joann shoppers. The two ladies who were working the fabric station were night and day - one was very cheerful while the other seemed very angry at the world. I understand that it can get busy and people have bad days, but all it takes is a smile! There was also only one cashier working, but he was very friendly and seemed to be managing a lot of things at once. Maybe I just came on a bad day? It still wasn't the worst I've been to and I do LOVE the fleece fabric I found. read more

I've been meaning to write this for a while. Once in a while I need something arts and crafts related and go here. Each time I enter the store I immediately remember how terrible my previous experience was and bite the bullet and hope that this time I'll find what I need. Never happens. The main problem is that there is a skeleton crew of about three or four running a huge store with constant long lines. Say what you will about walmart, they have employees stocking shelves that can answer your questions. They even have an app that tells the employees where everything is. Not joannes. Joannes doesn't even have employees to ask questions to. They're all at the register attending to a never-ending line. It needs to be studied how they stock shelves. Then you have the center, fabric area that has employees..... But they don't work for Joanne???????? And can't answer my questions No exaggeration, this is the worst store I've ever been to. read more

Of the four Joann Fabrics I've been to recently, this one is the best of the bunch. There was lots of inventory - but mostly it had what I was looking for! I didn't need to interact much with any workers so it was straight to the registers. There, the cashier informed me that there was recently a crush of customers and one man took it upon himself to cut his own fabric instead of waiting... I didn't need to know that, nor deal with her sarcastic attitude. That said, it seemed bright and better organized than the others. read more

Excellent experience. I asked for help to find a material to cover two woodworking benches and was shown a variety of materials. Settling on vinyl the associate calculated what I'd need, cut it and suggested I look over their website where coupons sometimes are. It was forty percent off. When I showed the cashier she told me below is a better one and the discount was fifty percent. She also bagged the long material. I'm very impressed with this place. The service is excellent. They have a huge inventory. I noticed many of the customers are friendly and very into their craft. If you need advice most would likely help you. Get a service ticket. A few customers took mine instead of explaining I need one. read more

This is my preferred Joann, despite it being 30 minutes away and there being another loction 10 minutes from me. It's right off of 95 and in a shopping center with tons of other stores. Parking is free and abundant! This Joann store is HUGE. There is a great selection of the usual items, though I stick mostly to paper crafts and yarn. It's always been clean, organized, and well-stocked when I have been here, so there's a clear level of care. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable, too, which I don't get at the one closer to me. It's also the locstion with the greatest number of classes you can take. I assume this is because of its locstion and size. My only frustration was when I took my daughter for a recent class. The 3-hour class started 30 minutes late and had to be moved because one of the classrooms was too cold. The class instructor seemed unorganized and frazzled. She disn't have any materials ready for the kids, despite the items supposedly coming woth the class enrollment. At the end of the class, she let me know she had actually forgotten that she was teaching that day, so it only added to my annoyance. Despite that, she was friendly and the kiddo enjoyed the class. We had attended a different class the day before and had none of these issues, so I am left to believe it was more the instructor than the store's issue. read more

I hadn't been to this store for several months. They have just spent untold thousands of dollars "remodeling" the store. I'm not sure what they've added, but they've reduced the yarn selection drastically. Instead of spending oodles of money "remodeling," I wish the powers-that-be had spent thousands hiring more employees. Perhaps even knowledgeable employees - but no. You spend the same unbearable 10-15 minutes waiting in line. (When you want fabric, be prepared to spend the better part of your day there.) aThey have zero competition and haven't for years, so they can get away with this basement level customer service. For yarn, there are competitors. For yarn, a trip to the DC area is required...and I know of only one choice there. Bummer. read more

This is the largest JOANN store in all the Baltimore region. The store is usually very nice inside. Clean and everything put away in it's place. The employees really keep up with the dirty work here. Not like other craft stores in the area where the T-Shirt section often looks like Twister 2 was being filmed in there. The large space offers this JOANN store an opportunity to offer more selection and variety. I love their coupons and use them frequently. The app for your phone really helps to keep on top of the current sales. I have never had a problem with any of the employees in this location. read more

I know that we are in the middle of a pandemic but if you are offering curbside let customers know that it can take you more than 10 days to fill the order. I placed my order on April 16th and still have not received an email to say that it was filled. I've called twice and they said they are ten days behind. The website does say don't place the order and head over BUT it does not say they are that far behind. I emailed them and all they said was each store was different and they couldn't help me. This place is pretty big. I can't even explain or describe what it sells. I just know that I used to work at a Dry Cleaners and sometimes I would need to stop by Jo-Ann's to pick up some more fabrics, bags, needles, cotton pieces, etc... They have never disappointed me. They always had what I needed. Service is always great. Place is big and can be confusing at times, but if you ask any worker there, they'd be more than happy to help. I actually had a conversation with 1 about different fabrics I could use to substitute a pair of silk pants. A place that has so many things you want and need. Superb service. This place has a lot of helpful employees who will help you in your quest for whatever your sewing-heart desires. In my case, I wanted to make a pretty tutu for my daughter. One of the employees took me to choose the tulle materials and then explained how much to use. I'd really recommend this place as they don't talk down to you or make you feel like you need to be on their level of expertise. Also, it's a huge store full of fabric. Service is terrible and the store is a mess! Went tonight to get fabric for my niece's costume and there were 4 people waiting at the cutting table (I was number 11 and they were serving 7). The gal who was working was nice, but slow. While I was waiting, I saw an employee walk behind the counter, say they needed more people at the cutting table and then left. I waited more than 10 minutes and finally decided to leave. On the way out, I talked to another employee who was standing by the customer service counter - I was nice because didn't really think it was her fault but wanted her to know I was leaving due to lack of help and limited selection. She just said 'ok' and looked at me - no apology or offer to help. I will drive 30 minutes extra to a competitor store rather than shopping here again. read more
