I broke one of the zipper pulls off my winter coat with a double zipper and asked a friend who's a tailor if she could fix it. She told me that I could try replacing the zipper pull first, and that I could get a package of them at Joann's. I have never really had great customer service experiences at any fabric or craft store, but I figured if I could save some money and do it myself, I might as well try. The following experience at Joann Fabrics made me remember why I avoid these stores. When I got to the store, I eventually found the area with full zippers but didn't see just the pulls. There was a girl restocking some zippers right near where I was standing and I was sort of waiting to see if she'd ask if she could help me find anything. She didn't. So, I asked if she knew if they carried any single zipper pulls and she said, "We don't have a big selection" and then showed me one decorative zipper pull and said, "This is all we have." I knew that couldn't be true, so I pulled up the product listing on the Joann website of what I was looking for (replacement zipper kit with assorted pulls). I went and found a different person working there who seemed like a manager (had a headset on) and showed her the picture on my phone and asked if they carried this item. She said, "That's really expensive, it's $16. You should just get the zipper replaced." Hmm... okay, that wasn't really what I was looking for, so I asked again if they had the item. She said, "Yes, but it's really hard to do yourself, you have to find the right size and it's really just easier to replace the zipper." I am not a tailor, but I do know that there's no way that's true. Replacing a zipper is no small task. I asked if she could show me the item and she finally took me to the right area and the whole time was still telling me I should just go to the tailor up the street and have them do it for me. I'm really not sure why it seemed like she was trying to convince me to a) not spend my money at this store and b) spend a much larger amount of money to have something replaced at a different business. It was a super weird interaction and she really seemed less than excited to help me actually find the item I was looking for. Then when I went to pay, the cashier was the girl who told me earlier that they didn't have what I was looking for. She said, "Oh, you found it." At this point I was just laughing to myself at the strange level of customer service I've received and got out of there as fast as I could. When I got home, I watched one YouTube video and replaced the zipper in less than 10 minutes. read more

I did not have a good experience at this Jo-Ann's store. I did go on a Saturday and it was very busy in the store, but the customer service here is extremely lacking. I did ask for help from one person that was within the store, and she was not helpful at all. I was unable to find what I was looking for. At the checkout, there was a ridiculously huge line and just two girls checking people out. One customer spent over five minutes holding up the line because she was looking for a coupon, and the associate did nothing to change this. I called this store to see if they were requiring masks inside the store per state mandate. They stated that they were unable to enforce it, but they did encourage it. Don't shop in person here if you want to feel safe. The do offer curbside pickup, but the last time I did that, even tho several of the items I picked were supposedly available, when I went to pick it up I was informed that one item was not available, and another would be shipped to me later. I shopped online before the store was open in the morning, and I was their first pickup of the morning, so it's not like someone else bought it. read more

I admit, I rarely go to craft stores. I only came here to get fabric that I'm using to have someone else reupholster for a love seat. Before I even started to look, I wanted to make sure I was getting the right type of fabric. I told an associate what I was having done, and she acted like I was bothering her. She pointed that "it's over there". I said, "Home Decor fabric?" which she answered "yes". Very short and not helpful. I do think they had a good selection of fabrics to pick from. Actually it was pretty overwhelming for me. Onto the real issue.... So, the whole "take a ticket" process at the cutting desk is absolutely rediculous. I'm not sure why I need to take a ticket when I'm literally the only one in line, so I didn't. Actually, I didn't even see the ticket machine to begin with. What happens is, some people take their ticket, go shop for awhile, their # doesn't get called over a loudspeaker that the cutting person is ready for them, so the line keeps moving. Then, when the person decides to finally come back, they essentially cut in front of everyone in line that has been waiting forever. It's just not clear at all and maybe this is a chain thing not a location issue. I thought the customers were pretty rude too: "Excuse me! Exuse me! You didn't call my number but I'm back!!" as she casually cuts in front of 5 other people. Um, what? The cutting counter was way understaffed. The lady that was helping me was on the phone forever for a customer. I get it, you need to help customers, but it took her way too long to call another person to help. The other associate was so slow and didn't know how to work the hand machine thing so it took her so long to get through her line. I guess it's a good thing I don't fabric shop often. If I did, I would try a different fabric place and probably not come back to this location. read more

Very long lines at both the fabric counter and the checkout. Almost every employee seems bothered when you ask for assistance finding something, one older lady in particular was extremely unprofessional with me. I'll be taking my business to Michael's or Hobby Lobby. read more

I have had some really nice people help me here and some people who made me feel like I was bothering them by asking questions. I prefer the kind helpful people....just sayin! Claims every employee is customer service but I have to wait for a manager to get change because the cashier can't open their own drawer.

Let me start this off by saying I'm a drag queen and I came here to buy foam for hip pads. So I go up to the counter to get it cut and the lady asks "What're you making?" So I said "Hip pads." She immediately put on a rude tone and proceeded to say "I don't think you can afford this foam is really expensive." So I politely say "That's ok can you still tell me the price." So she calculates it and says it'll be $50 a peice (You can get the same size pad at hobby lobby for $18 a peice I just recently found out) So at this point I was over it and was about to buy them and leave and she makes the comment "Yeah you definitely can't afford this." So I said "Thank you." and left... I'm never going back they are homophobic and rude. read more
