Rented a pontoon boat for the family. The service was great and the boat was everything they promised. Cool little shop inside as well.

Even though we got there super early, because of the holiday, there was a HUGE line getting into Devils Fork Park with the park rangers checking in with every vehicle - the rangers were turning away everyone without a parking reservation. I called Eclectic Sun and the nice lady on the phone said to show them our kayak reservation confirmation and that she would have a parking spot saved for us. Because we were in line for 1+ hours, we didn't get in until way after our reservation time but everyone was super nice and adjusted the time for us. The guys at the life jacket rental and down by the water helping people get in and out of their kayaks were also all very nice. All kayaks they had seemed to be in great shape, we had no problem using ours. Once you're out in the water, you can just dock it at any beach area you find around the lake (even though it was a busy day at the lake, there are so many beaches, you can easily find an empty one). We will definitely come back and rent one out again!

Affordable and bring your bathing suits if you want to swim! Sidenote: parking is convenient if your their early and there's a separate charge for that. $8 per person! If you don't own your own boat, you couldn't do better than Stephanie at Jocassee Keowee Rentals. We knew we wanted to rent a boat for at least one of our days at Devil's Fork State Park and researched several of the other area companies. We chose Stephanie and JKR because she had the best value. In fact, because her prices were so reasonable, we were able to rent for two days for not much more than one day would have cost with the other providers. Stephanie's commitment to customer service was also great. Since we were renting for two consecutive days, she allowed us to leave our ice chests and fishing gear on the boat overnight, even providing us with a locking cable to secure our ice chest. We have 2 adult children and one 12 year old; when I picked up the boat, I described his size to her and she provided a life vest she felt would fit him. Later, we encountered her on the lake in her own boat and she swapped the vest out with another because she didn't feel it fit him perfectly. Her knowledge of the lake is also extensive, she provided us with a waterproof map and marked the best spots for photos and swimming. We were able to find them all and they were as beautiful as she described. To see someone who runs her business with such energy and joy is indeed a pleasure to see. We will definitely come back to Lake Jocassee and we will certainly call on Stephanie and Jocassee Keowee Rentals when we do.

Feeling a little worried, I reached out hoping to at least switch the paddle board to a kayak, but wanted something dog friendly too. And boy did their service go above and beyond! Not only did they give me recommendations for the dog, they also went out early to confirm conditions were safe before we headed out so we didn't waste a trip. They ended up bringing multiple options and getting us in a double kayak with room for my corgi to come along and it was the MOST beautiful day. They even refunded the difference in cost. So thankful they made my birthday kayak trip a success!

This is by far the biggest and best convenience store I have ever seen!…read more They have amazing inventory, great parking, fabulous outdoor seating and great space to walk your dog. The manager and staff were friendly and helpful. I got there by mistake. When I left the wonderful Whitewater Falls North Carolina State Park, I apparently skated by Moody Springs - where I was told I could get great water right out of the spring. I basically fell off the mountain down to flatland in South Carolina and arrived, 10 miles later, at South Carolina route 11. I went looking for a convenience store that would still be open at 8o'clock and caught this place just before it closed. I asked the cashier if she knew a place to park my van overnight. When she did not immediately suggest anyplace, I asked about the truck pullout just 100 yards back up the road and she said it never gets used for anything. We did park there overnight and it worked great. They were literally switching off the lights and I quickly asked if there was a place I could get water. She showed me to the hose on the right side of the building and I got great cold water in my big jug. There is a huge space off to the right to walk your dog. The dark roast coffee was nice and strong and very hot - and $.50 in my mug! I've never seen a price that cheap. There is apparently very good boating nearby at Lake Jocassie. And I highly recommend, even if you had not planned on this, to run up the mountain into North Carolina to see Whitewater Falls State Park - which I read is "the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi". It is certainly quite amazing. To view it, there is a big parking pull off to the right - and then the State Park Visitors Center 8 miles further on your right. But don't stop at the first pullout, unless you want to take a very treacherous .8 mile trail down to an overlook. That trail (part of the 80-mile Foothills Trail) is made for seasoned hikers who don't mind risking their lives going down the gorge. One very experienced - and very young and strong - hiker coming through, who had walked the whole Appalachian Trail last year, said that it is "a lot shorter than the AT, but much rougher hiking: way more steep climbs and descents". My personal experience was harrowing: one set of stairs was built for Sasquatch, not humans - and I used the big rock stairs not as steps but as things to grab onto to keep from falling down the mountain. This 74-year-old cowboy had a blast during my one hour down and 90 minutes back up - but also felt a little lucky to still be alive when my dog and I got back to the parking lot. We never made it as far as the Overlook, but I felt like I had been personally tested and achieved my next level of mountaineer status. My little dog Panchita had a blast for the whole 2 1/2 hours - and was still chasing off into the bushes after squirrels at the end of the hike. This caused me to reconsider our whole "homo erectus" experiment with rising up onto 2 feet: we do get a much better view of the treetops and the mountains and the sky from this angle, but we are a lot less steady on our feet and have a longer way to fall. Most people will want to skip that first pullout, which basically has nothing to see, and go 100 yards down the road to the really nice little trail and great overlook.
