Just walked out of canal's and will gladly never return! My grandmother needed a wine opener and I ran to Joe Canal's for her. I asked the cashier if the store had any wine openers. The young lady grabbed a wine opener from a box and proceeded to ring up the opener. She then asked her co-worker if she knew how to enter the code for the opener bc she has difficulty scanning the item. The co-worker advised the cashier to ask a guy who was walking towards the front of the store. The cashier explained that she needed to ring up the opener. The guy asked her where she got the opener from?! The cashier pointed to a box of openers behind her. The guy then looked at me and said, "we don't have any wine openers for sale." I stood there for a good minute in disbelief as I saw an entire box of openers behind the cashier who tried to sell me one. Don't what nonsense is going on at this store. What a different experience from other recent reviewers! I find folks at this particular Joe Canal's to be helpful and kind - including today when I walked in at 10 minutes before closing. My regular purchase is Grandma's Sangria. I buy 2 cases. They weren't where they'd been for more than a few trips. The manager had the cashier confirmed there was some in stock so the search would not be in vain. I understood why when the manager told me where to look - the very back of the store. I cleared the shelf. Back at the cashier, I wondered out loud if they were not restocking it because it's a seasonal drink. The manager said that shouldn't be the case, that he would check on it and I should ask him about it next time. .... Without my asking, the manager offered to walk me to my truck (it was quite dark out). There he lifted the case into my truck and said a very pleasant thank you. This would be surprising someplace else. For me, this is how I've been treated every time. read more

I'm baffled by some of the reviews... When I go in, they're kind, helpful and we always chit chat at the register. The store has a great group of workers and a great selection. I've never had a single complaint. Sometimes I get off work right before they close (and trust me.. I feel bad going in), but they are still so sweet and genuine. This is my go-to place. read more

For whatever reason, they also seem to have something here that I haven't seen before at other stores like Total Wine, or even other Joe Canal's. The prices tend to be comparable to other places in the area, and their selection is pretty good for beers and liquors, can't comment on wines. Used to patronize this place exclusively until today. But, the negativity has been building up. First off, they have a huge pile of boxes at front of store which they are very stingy with (no matter how much you are spending). Secondly, they have now decided to charge a "fee" for using a credit card (which I'm sure most of their patrons do since the majority of them are seniors; I get it, maybe a lot of CC companies have raised fees on businesses but this business can afford to suck it up--it's for THEIR customers' convenience). Also, with their check-out clerks; rudeness seems to be their standard operating procedure. Finally, today they were running a 20% discount on a case lot of wine; except that when I went to check out I was told it didn't apply to "sale" items (of which I had two) and that the entire discount was voided. Too bad for them because I "voided" my entire purchase of probably a couple hundred bucks and decided to shop elsewhere. Very chintzy operation. read more

I had a great experience with this Canal's on Saturday. I was craving 21st Amendment's Hell or High Watermelon and wasn't sure where to find it by the case. Since I was in NJ, I gave Canal's a call and they not only had it in stock, but were willing to put a case aside for me as long as I planned to stop by that day. Since there were only two cases left, this was a great favor and made my life pretty easy. Not to mention, the case was around $32 before tax, which seemed really reasonable. I walked up and down their beer aisles while there and was surprised at the great selection. Since this place is just a few miles from my parents' house, it's safe to say there will be plenty more visits in my future. read more

Love their selection of wines, great & huge variety.Their prices , compared to other liquor stores ventured to are fabulous.Don't know how some of my friends can spend 25-30% more on liquor??! Great beer assortment and selection and nice staff. Reasonably good wine selection. What's nice about this store is while the other Joe Canal's offer a 10% mixed wine case discount, you can get 15% here with a coupon that they offer in local newspapers or on their website. That 15% makes this one of the best priced wine stores in the region. Maybe I shouldn't be yelping this, I hope they don't end this offer! read more

I'm from Pennsylvania, so in general, New Jersey liquor stores seem pretty super to me. This Joe Canal's was no exception. This particular store was very well lit with a decent balance of wine, liquor, and beer. They have a lot of craft beers and when we were there, they had an area that focused on seasonal autumn beers. In addition to a large selection of six packs and case at room temperature, they have a whole wall of refrigerated beer. The check out area was well attended and our cashier was very friendly. Overall, just a quick stop in, but a great experience. read more

Price gouging on bourbon, was at one time a good place with decent prices, now you can't touch anything allocated for less than 5 times msrp. I'm not expecting to walk into a store and just find bottles at retail all the time, but the reputable ones that are left at least hold lotteries. read more

My go to place for a broad selection of beer and wine. I like mostly locally made wines and Joe Canal's Discount Liquor Outlet in Delran carries a good variety. Prices are good compared to smaller liquor stores. I also like the fact you can get many varieties of beer that has not been refrigerated already. I can chill up as needed. Oh why, oh why, have I never noticed your beer selection before, Canal's? Somehow, I thought you only had a cheap-o selection... I must have not wandered down the right aisles before. It's official, I can't afford to shop in PA anymore, not now that I have discovered a comparable store in New Jersey that not only has good wine, a decent liquor selection, but ALSO a great beer section. I can't rave enough. So to start with my least favorite alcohol to drink: spirits and liquor. Joe Canal's has a wide range of whatever liquor you are looking for, though this section is certainly not the centerpiece of the store. Sales, as usual, are always occurring in the liquor aisle, and I find the prices to be spot on. Secondly, I will move to the wine area, which is probably the same size as some beer distributors in PA. Right in front are all of the wines on sale (usually some sort of Napa batch). It's very easy to find cheap wine for drinking (as opposed to cooking) here and they have good representation from all areas of wine-making renown. I've bought some really great bottles of Italian chianti here for my father, who proceeded to rave about them and I didn't have to spend more than $15 each. Finally, the beer. My favorite thing to drink and, until recently, something I didn't think Canal's carried in abundance. Boy, was I wrong! There is a huge unrefrigerated case aisle with all of the normal cheap stuff and then smaller cases of brews from Goose Island, Magic Hat, Unibroue, and others. I was very impressed with specialty section (for instance, a gift box of three 750 mL bottles of Ommegang brews AND an Ommegang glass for $25.99! A steal, as the beer by itself is easily worth $30). Then I found the refrigerated section. Individuals, cases, mini-kegs, you name it, Canal's had it. Even the large (750 mL) bottles were in good form-- I even found a Yuengling lager in that size, which I had no idea was even produced. I happened to be looking for a Lambic Framboise and found it in one of the last cases... but I was well-rewarded. There were even two or three other flavors of it, which was more than I usually see in one place. As far as liquor superstores go, I couldn't have been happier with the selection and will now be timing my petrol trips with my liquor trips (how is it that everything is cheaper in Jersey?). read more

I am senior, maybe with early Alzheimer so I kindly request price check (sorry I have a budget) at the register.......JIM the cashier went ballistic and treat me poorly. The prices are GREAT. I dont know if it had to do with our skin color or not but my husband and I have been going here for a year and today was the FIRST time Jon decided to check ALL ID's, I totally understand it is store policy but if it's always been store policy this should have been happening since day one and not only did Jon tell us he couldn't sell us any liquor if everyone in our party didn't have IDs. My friend proceeded to use the store's atm and Jon obnoxiously verifies the BILL. Seriously Jon..... all in all make sure everyone in your party has their ID OR make them stay in the car because you never know if Jon is going to act according to the policy all depends on his day. I honestly love this Canal's. It's my go to liquor store. However, i was just turned away because they were "closed" when they were technically still open for about 4 more minutes. Look, I get it, I work retail. You want to go home. But when you advertise that you are open until a certain time, you shouldn't be turning away customers who are bringing you business. read more

If you're looking for a wide selection of beer, wine & liquor, this is the place to come to. The staff is friendly and the place is always very clean. They have a wide variety to choose from and everything on the shelves appears fully stocked. Prices are good and you can catch some good deals when things go on sale. read more

Very variable. Sometimes they have real deals on liquor, but wine prices are average and selection is so-so. France is very poorly represented and Italy just a bit better. Spain is okay and there's cheap Portuguese. German wines there are dreck. American wines are pretty well represented, but like everywhere else, American wine is expensive if you want quality. The worst aspect of the store are the huge southwest-facing windows which let sunlight cook most of the wines on display. Why don't they pull down blinds in the afternoon? The sun also shines in your eyes, making shopping unpleasant. I rarely buy beer there for two reasons: 1)prices are higher than other places (but selection is good, I'll admit), 2) I've also gotten skunked beer there, so I question their handling of the product. Cashiers are notably grumpy --- sorry to bother you by making a purchase, my dears! Website is godawful and useless. A high schooler could design a more informative site for Joe Canal's customers. read more

All around great spot. Intense wine selection, many types of spirits, and huge selection of craft beers. Can't beat these prices either. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the gentlemen in the wine selection helped me pick out a nice bottle of wine for my boyfriend for Christmas, and I had a field day with the craft beers. read more
