HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! Absolutely horrible human being. Unprofessional. Extremely pompous and arrogant. Will not answer his phone or voicemails for months on end. He will encourage you not to reschedule your tax appointment although you do not have everything necessary to file. Ensuring you that it will be "no problem and easy to just file an amended return", only to call you derogatory names when you inquire on the status of his preparation of the amended return you requested from him 6 months prior. Avoid this miserable *insert expletive*!! Here is our actual conversation: Me: Hi Joe, I'm calling regarding our amended return that needs to be filed. Joe: "Oh well, we haven't even gotten to amended returns yet. We are still working on all of the peoples screw ups from the earlier filings. Amendments are still another month out before we get to them." Me: When I called you a month and a half ago you said that amendments were 3-4 weeks out then. So they are still a month out? Joe: "Well YEAH, we have a lot to do!! What's the amendment, how'd you screw it up?" Me: Well, I didn't screw it... Joe: "SURE you did! You.." Me: If you would allow me to finish speaking. {pause} We mistakenly scheduled our appt very early in the tax season. I contacted you in January requesting to reschedule as we did not have everything necessary to file. You ensured me that was fine. Bring in what we had, and we could easily file an amendment once the rest comes in. I mailed the documents for the amendment to you back in April, it's now August. Joe: "You know, whining isn't going to get you anywhere." Me: I'm definitely not whining Joe: "You definitely are whining. I've heard a lot of whiners, and you are a pro at it." Me: No, I'm definitely not whining. Joe: "Hey, if you want someone else to fix them, I'll pull the documents and you can come pick them up. Otherwise you're going to have to wait your turn." Me: Well clearly I don't have an option other than to wait Joe. Joe: "SURE you do! You can have someone else..." Me: NO JOE, I do not. I've already paid you for the service. Have a nice day. Tax accountant with very poor customer service acum. Very diificult to get into contact with, does not answer phones. You cannot leave messages. Advised to call after 5pm, but oftentimes listed number is busy. While doing your taxes, Joe tends to rush customers. Joe became upset with my wife after I asked him for his rates. He then claimed that he charged us for an hour and a half of service even though we were in his home office less than 45 min. AVOID...AVOID...AVOID read more

Have been going to Joe House for 25 years plus. I have found him personable and professional. Only issue is he is so popular it is difficult to reschedule during tax season. Or if you are new you need to schedule with them for the next year. He's worth it!! read more

I used to recommend Joe House Taxes all the time, he was the best I had found. However, given this past tax season, I can no longer recommend him, and I'm sorry I ever did in the past. I had to change our tax appointment this year, and that's when the trouble started. I was told I would get a call within the next week to reschedule. That call never came. I called multiple times over the next few months trying to get an appointment. I either left a message and was never called back, or I spoke to Joe himself who told me he would call me when he had an open time slot for us. This continued right up until October 12th. Well, as you can imagine, we started to panic. I finally called someone else on October 15th and was given an immediate appointment. I never did receive that promised call about an appointment with Joe. At one point during this time of trying to get an appointment, my husband said it almost sounded like he didn't want to schedule it, or do our taxes. I had to agree. If that were the case, the professional thing for him to do would have been to just tell us that so that we could make other arrangements. Instead, he strung us along for months making it seem like we would actually get in. He acts like it's a super privilege for him to do your taxes and you should be thankful to be graced with an appointment. Joe has also become very short and snippy while you're having your taxes done. He doesn't like to answer questions, he doesn't like to be questioned about what he's doing. He just wants you in & out as quickly as possible. In short, there are MANY places you can go for taxes that actually call you back. We left a voice mail for our new accountant on a SUNDAY and received a return call in less than an hour. You can't even email him, as Joe doesn't have it, he's still doing things like it's 1975. Joe has been my tax guy since 1990. Handled my father for a decade or more also. My father had used Coopers prior to retirement and switched to Mr. House. Mr. House provided no let down and substantial value considering quarterly estimates with substantial income. Even now Mr. House handles friends, family and our family trust. Frankly, people are waiting in line to get in with Mr. House. He can pick and choose who he wants. IRS has tried some odd stuff after my fathers passing and Mr. House shut them down with one letter. I called to schedule an appointment two weeks ago. He asked if I had ever done my taxes with him before and I told him yes but not for the last two years. He said to call back the following Monday to schedule an appointment as he first takes care of his clients from the previous year before he takes on clients who hadn't gotten their taxes done the previous year. Totally understandable. I called back the Monday I was told to, spoke to him directly and scheduled my appointment which was for today. Only a week or so wait. Not bad at all. I get there to do my taxes and he asks why I didn't have him do my taxes last year. No real reason. My fiancé at the time (now husband) was getting his done with someone else so we both went there. He asked why he hadn't done mine the year before that, and I told him that my mother had recommended someone and I went to them. I didn't know that it's a stipulation that you must go to the same person every year. I go to who is available when I have the time to get them done. And two years prior I tried to schedule and appointment and the wait was incredible, so yes I went elsewhere. So after I explain to him why I hadn't used him the past two years (nothing personal, just convenience I guess) that he will not do my taxes!! What?!!! I'm dumbfounded. Now you knew when I had schedule the appointment that I hadn't been there for two years. If this was a stipulation of his (that you must always get them done with him) then he should have said that on the phone when I told him I hadn't been there in a couple years. He said "why would I do your taxes when you may not even come back next year and told me I was an irresponsible client!" Excuse me, I'm paying you for a service!! If I don't get my oil changed at the same place every time I need one done, should I be refused service? If this is the way he does business I don't even want to contribute to it. Something sounds fishy about his business model. Not to mention he knew I hadn't been there in two years when I scheduled the appointment and instead wasted my time driving 30 mins each way to his office. Incredibly unprofessional!! read more

Joe has prepared our taxes for almost 40 years and has always been professional, personable and efficient. He can be reached in the evening hours when not deep into tax season.
