First and foremost it's so humble, what do I mean by that? Well the road it's situated on is a tight country road with a generous speed limit, so it's easy to zip by the sign with hardly anytime for a glance. If you do make a conscious effort to stop, you will find the most quintessential Irish country pub / restaurant near Belfast, and it seems to give the impression it's doing this without even trying. It's classically decorated and peppered with pictures of Belfast in a bygone era, so you have plenty to catch your eye. If stopping for food you could be in for a treat as we were offered a table beside a beautiful open fire. (Continually stoked by the staff). This really set a great mood for a cozy and relaxed Sunday lunch, which, by the way, was delicious! Thanks to a bad signal for the card machine, I was asked to go downstairs to the bar and pay. This turned out to be very difficult, as I was so tempted to sit down have a drink, and enjoy the rest of the afternoon! Clearer heads prevailed though and I was soon on my way back to my well fed family. But.... next time I'll be making sure I'm not the one who has to drive home!!

Once inside I was really excited by the fact it was Thursday, which meant curry club was in full swing! Of course I took full advantage and ordered a jalfreze which came with rice and pitta bred, poppadoms and mango chutney. I also quickly decided that a quick bite was now a distant thought and proceeded to go for some bhaji's too. Well, you just do don't you! We got a second side, and I decided on the champ, a potato and leek mash with spring onions. Extra sauce served on the side had green beans in it, too. My husband ordered the lamb shank and enjoyed it, as well. It came with mashed potato, but he ordered the side of French fried onions (onion rings, which were a little greasy). After that, I was full, but Mr. S. asked to at least see a dessert menu. It was a tough decision between the pavlova and the hot fudge cake, but we opted to share the cake. We arrived around 1.30pm, downstairs was pretty empty so we lifted a few menus and sat down. A girl quickly came to serve us for drinks and let us browse menu. Typically pub grub and lots to choose from. I had the lamb roast and mum had chicken maryland(see pics) Both meals were generous servings, especially for lunch time. I thought the food was very nice and really well priced. The meat is supplied my Hannons butchers. Free off road parking out back. Friendly staff. We were in for lunch and I went for the salt and pepper squid to start which was perfectly prepared and really well presented and then for my main I had the Chicken goujons with salad and chips which was great and very filling. It's a comfortable little bar, renovated in the last 5 years or so. The downstairs bar is very small, and always has a few punters milling about, given its location in the middle of the densely populated Andersonstown, which is also a hub of local shopping. Food is served upstairs on the extended first floor. The food's pretty good, and gets quite busy at the weekends, although there's always a local patronage throughout the week. I've only ever had a Fry in there, which used to be fantastic because they were a sort of "clean" fry - no greasiness or sausages sliding off the plate as you try to stick a fork in them. The last two times I've had a fry there it's been a bit disappointing though. I don't know if it's a different chef but they just aren't quite as good as they used to be - I still go back though because they're not bad. There's an extensive lunch menu and this is what keeps the locals coming back time and again. When the food is finished, upstairs just becomes a bar, and it's sort of a modern take on a traditional style, if you can picture that. I mean, it's got the whole wooden effect going on, but also has very comfortable and roomy seats.
