This is truly a diamond in the rough - a good mechanic you can trust. Unfortunately, I've found out that you can't even trust a "reputable" dealership service department these days, even though they are generally more than competent at repairing your car. Car repair is expensive. And the only thing that will cost you more than an incompetent mechanic is a dishonest one. Joe Reid has some 25-30 years of experience, AND he's a good man. I trust him completely. He's built his business entirely on word of mouth. I heard about him from a close friend, whose family has used Joe for 20 years. When Joe moved from Garland to Leonard, TX (East of McKinney!!!) - I made the 60 mile drive from Dallas to take my cars to him. That's how good he is. If you're suicidal then I highly recommend. Went here to get front end repaired from normal wear and front bearing hubs replaced. I was assured the steering was nearly perfect before leaving with the truck, but I could hardly hold it on the road. After almost two weeks of waiting and four times taking it back because of near head-on collisions, it was "perfected" so I could somewhat hold it on the road. $1700 for worse steering than I started with. Now, 8 months later while driving down the highway, my front tire separated from the hub and spindle by way of bolts that were "torqued" at this place. I was lucky to escape with my life, and am now out of a vehicle. Please be careful if you choose, or have chosen this place for auto repair in the past!!! read more

We love JOE !! We also have used Joe for years; all the way back when he was in the Dallas/Garland area. He's honest, dependable, and reasonable. A true mechanic you can trust. Although he's moved from Dallas, and it's a 45 min drive up there to scenic, rural Leonard, (luckily there's a Sonic on the way!!!!) we still gladly make the drive up there just for Joe. I spent $1,000+ there. This is my opinion, not factual statements...don't want a libel suit from this guy. One thing I had fixed was a manual window that fell off the track. I paid $80+ for a part and $80+ for the labor, over $160. It felt tight to turn when I picked it up, fell of the track again a week later. When I called Joe, he accused me of breaking it. He said it sounds like I forced it and broke it and he wished I'd brought it back before I did that. paraphrased He offered to look at it, but I'd have to leave it. No thanks, last time I left it he kept it for 3 weeks and I got updates when I called him... He may have called me once. He was defensive and condescending to me being on a budget. When I told him I'd like to know what may need done next, because what I was having done were things to make the car safe first....he said sarcastically to me, shocks, but that's a luxury. Rude, rude man. No, I won't have him repair the window. I'm out the money. I don't trust him and won't leave my car there again. After 3 weeks, he didn't even know if he'd checked the oil when I asked! I paid for truck/doors to be rekeyed the same. Used Joe 6 years with a combo of super good & very bad work the bad was more than three times so I'm through. His prices are very high for small town mechanic. If there's a problem his fault are not the blame is on you & you will pay $$$. I kept going to him even after I felt wronged because we here in Leonard did not have many choices for major mechanical work in the past but we do now just a little south of Joe's . read more
