Really high quality food. I got a spicy bratwurst with side salad. The bratwurst had a fried egg on it and fueled me for the rest of the day of adventuring that I had planned in QT. All the food I've had in QT has been amazing and this one did not disappoint. It seems to be frequented by locals so you know it's good stuff. read more

Fun spot with a nice little patio. Service was a bit hit or miss, but still a good experience. I had a coffee and the eggs with bacon and hash. Really solid start to the day. They also provide blankets for those on the patio. read more

I wanted to like Joe's Garage. The staff were lovely and the decor was fun, but unfortunately we left very disappointed. Their motto is 'Coffee Rescue' and their coffee does need rescuing. Incredibly bitter with a strange aftertaste, after three sips I couldn't bear more. The French toast was tasty but we waited over 30 mins for our meal. How do we know it took this long? Our free wifi ran out. Perhaps offer free wifi that lasts longer than 30 mins if you're taking that long to feed customers? Hopefully they get their act together soon. It could be awesome. read more

Kitchen works like a well oiled machine. Ambiance is much like a typical ski resort diner. Greasy and delicious. Staff was super nice and we were thoroughly entertained by the muted movie paying on the telly (Leading Edge). HASH: one word- BUTTER. One small bowl of homefried potatoes had about 4 tbls of butter. 4.5****\* The best Flat white I've ever had in New Zealand, this is a result of all the cafes I've been to. Joe's Garage nailed it. I don't know what they did to it but the flat white was crisp, tasted fresh, the milk mixed in with the coffee so well it was smooth sailing drink. The only thing that was off was the cup size. It was half amount of what I usually get when I order a flat white, perhaps it was a small size they assume when you order one. I should order the larger one if they had but I didn't ask. Man, now that I think about it I should've bought a coffee bag to go. I ordered the local which consisted of bread butter, cheese sausage, bacon, tomato, sautéed mushrooms, and scrambled eggs. Everything was salted well for taste, the tomato was grilled right and it didn't burn my mouth when eating it. The cheese sausage was good, but hard to cut into. I gave my wife my bacon because she loves bacon. Our waiter was friendly, quick and fast and attentive. Their WiFi is free just ask the staff for the password. I'd give the place a 5 but there wasn't a lot of seats inside or outside. They always seem busy but their products are good though. It does feel like a garage, because of the spacing, and the decorative tools they exhibit in their cafe. I guess it lived up to its name. If I'm back in Queenstown again, I'd definitely come back. read more

Above average breakfast. It's a great atmosphere. Ask for the wifi code and make sure to check the specials on the mirror. This is a bit of a chain but you will be a convert if you eat here. The staff was attentive and polite. The bacon was the closest I came to American bacon while in New Zealand. read more

Love it! This is the 1st place we visited in Queenstown 4 years ago and couldn't wait to come back! We returned and loved it all over again! It has a great atmosphere and the staff really seem to enjoy what they do. They hustle and make great food. We enjoyed hearing one of the very friendly employees just singing away as he worked. Sad to say I was really disappointed with this place. My coffee was made twice badly and I have never returned a coffee before. If you have to tell people to be careful because the coffee is hot, the barista has overheated it. The food I had was worse than I'd expect from a cheap corner diner. I had the Gorgeous George with potatoes that were dry, boiled and then half fried. Maybe it's a kiwi thing, but it wasn't good by any means. Luckily I could drown it in sauce. Most of the things coming out of the kitchen didn't look much better. It was the most robbed I'd felt when the $20.50 left my account. Maybe if it was half the price I wouldn't be so scathing, but this isn't a place that can justify $16 for two eggs, potatoes and 3 bacon strips. I really wanted this place to work because the staff were lovely and the atmosphere just what you want, but I would suggest leaving this one to the locals. read more

Sad that I did not know of this place earlier in our stay in Queenstown. This was the best breakfast we had in Queenstown. They have an open kitchen, we sat at the bar overviewing the cook, which is great at what he does. We came hungry, ordered the gorgeous George, Joe's burrito and the pikelet with jam and cream. We've never had a pikelet, we call it a pancake in America and pour syrup not jam, but we had to try it. Loved it!! Devoured it! A must stop in. read more

Liked it so much we came back twice during our 4 day stay. Came here for breakfast and the first time around got the eggs (fried) with salmon and bacon and both were quite good - everything was cooked well and the portions were big. The second time around we got the granola which was the best I've had - the nuts were sweet and roasted and crunchy...literally couldn't stop eating it! The coffee was a bit strong but good and if you want water its over by the door. The environment is really casual and laid back, but I love that they use the garage theme throughout by having a wrenches as door knobs, during wrenches to close the door, having trucks on the table, etc. read more

Solid casual breakfast joint and one of the few that are open at 7 am in the blistering New Zealand winter. I tried the M81 which comes with a fried egg, mushrooms, and rocket (aka arugula) served on a roll and it was pretty delicious, especially when served with aioli and BBQ sauce. Also very reasonably priced around $11. My brother had the joker, which comes with bacon and sausage, and devoured it. Service is quick and friendly, AND they give you an hour of free wifi, which is basically amazing. Delicious hot chocolate, and the orange juice is fresh squeezed. :) Great place to have breakfast before a long day on the snow! read more

Joe's Garage is a great little diner style venue with the open kitchen & service area along one side of the building and plenty of seating inside and outside. They offered up a great fried breakfast of crispy bacon, runny yolks and tasty hash. And I'd say they had some of the better prices out of a lot of places in Queenstown (which we found to be pretty expensive place). The staff were really great and attentive and we didn't have to wait very long for our meals. Definitely worth having a look in if you're in town. Their milkshakes looked pretty good too! read more

This is a great breakfast spot. The classic rock music was cranking when we walked in, and it was populated with a mix of tourists and locals. Hubby and I sat at the counter as it was very busy - we had a birds-eye view of the grill. The staff were friendly and efficient, and they all seemed to be having a truly good time. I deducted one star because they messed up my order and delivered eggs cooked differently from my request, though they quickly offered to remedy that. I had the two eggs on toast with spinach. They use Vogel's bread - excellent! Food was great. Hubby approved of the flat white coffee and they serve high quality tea as well. We'll definitely return the next time we're in Queenstown. read more

Enjoyed a very hearty breakfast. We enjoyed the Pikelets (pancakes) and would have earned a fifth star if they hadn't been over cooked. The fancy pants porridge (oatmeal) was a delicious combination of carrots, cinnamon, candies walnuts and marscapone (but the fancy pants option changes daily, so you have to check out the day's special.) On a fluke we shared a cheddar scone at the end of meal and that was delicious. Would go back if we were staying longer! read more

I have seen Joe's Garage in several places and have always meant to try it but somehow never did. Perhaps my fear of chain restaurants led me to avoid it. Nevertheless, after a lovely breakfast here I will not avoid it again! The coffee (flat white) was superb, and with it I had a fantastic dish of warm rhubarb-apple compote with yogurt and muesli that was the perfect light breakfast for a cold Queenstown morning. Came here for breakfast before we went hiking, zip lining and jet boating. The service and staff was fast and friendly while the food was tasty. I got the porridge with a side of streaky bacon while my girlfriend got a side of Joe's hash + cooked cold salmon. All of it was A+ all around. Cool ambience too that looks like a converted garage. Excellent coffee, I had an extremely well-made flat white. The place is really cool, but not pretentious like a lot of New York cafes, kind of like a modern diner.
