The foremost, I love this old school vibe of this place takes me back to a 1990s ice cream shop literally 52 flavors and they ain't playing games here. I love the quality of their waffle for their ice cream. I can't stress it enough. It's definitely a must have if you need to put it on your bucket list. I had moose tracks and coffee ice cream and it was really good not disappointed at one second customer service was really good. They will acknowledge you from the start to the end as you're leaving which I definitely appreciate that old school vibe . Overall five stars in my book will be back soon read more

We got there just a few minutes before they closed and they were still very kind and very accommodating and the ice cream was absolutely amazing we each got a scoop it was a huge scoop for 2 people we only spent $8 on. At a chain ice cream shop that would have cost at least $20 and it wouldn't have been that quality. read more

For what it's worth, it's good tasting ice cream. The seating area is almost always clean. Ice cream melts very, very fast. Always get a bowl. We've been 4 times now and it's packed, haven't been able to get a seat inside yet. When people come here, they tend to bring the entire family and hang out for long periods of time which is fine but you might have to wait in your car and keep an eye on the line inside to get a table indoors. Eating in car isn't recommended unless you like to wear ice cream. Now for some less favorable attributes... there's a special young man who stays at this establishment while his parents work which is all fine and good. I love that he's involved but we've noticed each time he's been behind the ice cream counter he's picking and eating his boogers which isn't hygienic for any place. The last trip we both found hairs in our ice cream cones. I myself got two. There's no hairnets so that's another ding for hygienic reasons. We enjoy coming for the nostalgia but have had less than a great time, each time. Could be made better and I sure hope so. They certainly have the business to make this place into something greater! I would've given this place four stars, but they don't make their own ice cream. All ice cream is bought and then resold from companies like Blue Bunny, etc. Nevertheless, the gal on Thursday evening was very pleasant, friendly, and patient with customers who did not know what they wanted. Reserved, free parking is available for customers. Inside there are about 10-12 tables, so feel free to plan on sitting and eating. The movie Grease was playing on their very large tv, which gave a nostalgic feeling. For $4.07 (credit card accepted, no spending minimum required), I received "one" scoop of mint chocolate chip in a waffle cone. I should've paid attention to how much ice cream she was placing in the cone. Instead, I was perusing the other flavors. When she handed me the cone, there were probably about 10 scoops (at least, if I was at home) in there! There was more ice cream than what you'd get at Marble Slab! Went to Joe's the other day (Saturday). The kids love it there. Not sure if the man that's usually there is named Joe but when my kids get the itch for ice cream, they say "Let's go to Joes, I wanna go see Joe" he hardly says a word, but even so he gives off this kind and gentle vibe. The order is always right and samples are always available upon request. My son got his usual dutch chocolate. Even though it's sold in stores he claims it's not the same as at Joes. I ordered a banana split to share. $5.99 or $6.99 buys you 3 flavors of ice cream, 3 toppings (fudge, Carmel, strawberry or pineapple preserves) and whip cream, nuts and a cherry. It's a pretty decent size so 2 people can definitely enjoy one. Their chocolate covered frozen bananas with nuts don't disappoint either. My little one has had their raspas and really enjoys them too. They have a daily sundae special which is ice cream, a topping and whip for about $2 or $3. It's a small place with indoor and outdoor seating. There's always something family friendly to watch on the giant flat screen. Mostly the kids tune in, but the booths are intimate enough for a good chat. I like the place. It's homey. I find McAllen doesn't have too much of that (mostly everything is more commercial) or maybe I haven't looked hard enough. But this place makes you feel at home. It's a nice place for a short visit, although on days where they play America's funniest home videos that cone may take a little longer to finish with all the laughs in between licks and bites! read more

I was in town on business and stopped in one night after having dinner out. Joe himself was behind the counter and could not have been more pleasant. This place offers a ton of ice cream flavors, many more than that other place that offers 31. I ordered a caramel sundae with two different flavor ice cream scoops.
