Wooooo, that piqued my interest and decided to scroll through the rest of the stack. This artist had The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia. All great work. The small ones were $40.00 while the large ones were $100 already matted. I was so tempted to buy one, but then I had to remember how in the heck can I carry that on the train without it getting bent. I decided not to buy right away and just browse, admire the ART in this gallery. There is a cool photography exhibit of Oakland from the 1960's. Nothing has changed, it showed protestors with signs wanting equal rights, pay, and protection. The same issues that are going on today. The photographer is Howard Harawitz and it's worth checking out. Next I turned the corner and saw some surreal art of Humpty Dumpty by Brian Clarke/Les Toil. Then turn to my right and there's this bright, vibrant Art from Pete Escobedo. Now if you don't know who he is, then you're living under a rock. Not only he is an Oakland, Bay area native, he's also one of best Latin Percussionist of all time and the father of Sheila E. His art is just as colorful as his Timbale playing. Next on the wall is Art representing San Franciso, Oakland landmarks such as The Grand, Castro, and The Fox theaters. Wow, she's pricey on canvas, but they're really good. The one with Golden Gate bridge on Canvas and framed is selling for $3500. See attached pictures for her wall section and prices. Walk a little further and I see more colorful ART and it's very familiar to me, like I've this artwork on some Album covers for some rockbands. The artist name is Stanley Mouse and under his name is a poster for a rock festival and the Pegasus used on one of Steve Miller's album covers. Keep on Rockin' me Baby. Wow this is some cool stuff if you have a Vinyl room. I kept walking and saw this wall sculputue/wall art made of wire. That artis name is Diane Komater. This probably took a long time and looks harder to make than the average person thinks. All it is, is a wire. Yah, but it's unique. Go on Diane with your creative self. :) I did find something I could take and it's postcards of Oakland's Grafitti called Oaktown Be Mine by Malcolm Ryder. I dont know about you, but I'm not scared by grafitti art, I actually like it and can appreciate the time and thought that goes into some of these pieces. For those who don't know, AI generated images exist because the machines that render them steal actual artists' work. They also use an extraordinary amount of power and water which drains our resources and makes our utilities more expensive. It's trash and it doesn't belong next to human art work. They have 2800 sq ft of personal studio space for artists, and a drawing room for live drawing, social events, and collaborative projects. They also have a gallery space, and a wood shop where they make environmentally friendly panels and canvas for other artists in the San Francisco Bay Area. Faultline has a complete screen printing setup, which is a focus of their space, along with murals and large scale painting and drawing. Currently they are under construction, they just finished the studio walls and have artists moving in. The space is ALREADY so beautiful, great light, good energy, and fun people to share in the progress and creativity. It is transforming daily, you only need to stop by for a visit to see the changes!

The studios are located on the edge of town so the area is a bit sketchy. You also have to walk up a flight of stairs and down a weird hallway to get here. I thought I was going to a Fight Club. Luckily they were in the active process of painting the hallway with some lovely art. Once you're in the actual space it's quite clean and contemporary with spacious high ceilings. They even have a screen printing station for their artists. I think they're going to hold classes and shows here. I would love to come back and see their next show or attend a class. Just look out for the flies.

Oh boy... where do I even start?…read more I had a mirror I picked up a couple of years ago--great quality, originally from a dresser--however it didn't speak to my space and ultimately, I was on the verge of parting ways with it. Unexpectedly, I thought up a project to salvage the mirror while adding character to my space and needed to remove the mirror from its frame. This felt risky to do on my own. After searching for frame shops, I came across Eco Framing and gave them a call. Eric answered and immediately said he'd be happy to help. They treated my project with care, removed the frame from the mirror for me and wrapped it safely so I could take it home to continue the next steps. I was welcomed back when it was ready to be framed again. The turnaround was quick--just a couple of days--and I was thrilled with the final result. This team truly helped bring my vision to life. I happen to know the owner, Armelle, who is a gregarious and accommodating person and an amazing artist, with many years of professional experience in stained glass restoration. Armelle has worked on various prestigious projects, incl. SF City Hall, Grace Cathedral, St Thomas Cathedral in NYC and others as a team member and project manager at larger glass studios. At her own "atelier" in West Oakland she focuses on glass design and original art ranging from conceptual pieces to commission art, to functional glass objects (plates, bowls, platters, coasters, etc.). The prices are very reasonable, considering that each piece is unique and very well crafted. If you're looking for something quite a few notches above the generic mass-produced stuff from Ikea or Crate & Barrel, this is one place you should definitely check out. Highly recommended!

What an amazing experience a visit to this studio is!!! Armelle was so friendly and invited me into her studio, taking the time to graciously show all the amazing projects her studio is working on. The work they perform in restoration of stain glass was absolutely breathtaking and inspiring. The attention to detail was incredible and the notes they keep on techniques and experiments were jaw dropping. I have a new appreciation of restoration work....Next, she revealed a project for a local restaurant which had elements of history and modernity. The fused work was subtle yet detailed....Finally, she revealed her personal work and each series was stunning and different from the next. Provocative, raw, yet sensitive. The scope of her work and the attention to detail was inspiring. I was truly honored that she shared her time and blown away when she very generously shared her kilning schedule and offered many suggestions to help me get started after finding out about my interest in fusing(thank you SO much!). This random visit was a high point in my vacation and if you like glass, I very highly recommend you give Armelle a call and visit! She does have shows and offers her personal work for sale. I bought a gorgeous one of a kind hand painted tray from her latest series and I return to LA a very happy inspired lady :-D

The whole place felt small and honestly not worth making a trip for. What really made it worse was the staff behavior. One worker or volunteer took a photo of us and then awkwardly hid behind a wall, which was unsettling. Another staff member kept staring at us the entire time, then eventually approached to say we couldn't have a water bottle inside and had to check it at the front desk. That would have been fine if the front desk had mentioned it in the first place. The inconsistency just added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. Overall, not worth the visit at all. If you are deciding between museums, Oakland Museum of California is much better and a far more enjoyable experience.

While at a community holiday fare, we bought a super cool piece of art from a local vendor of a map of El Cerrito which includes my husband's work site. It's playful, colorful, and full of joy. After utilizing the Yelp app to find a framing company close by, we found Artistic Picture Framing. After meeting the crew in-person, we knew we were in the right hands. We worked with Rodolfo on choosing the right colors for the piece and chatted about becoming parents, the nursery we were building, and the magic we were hoping to encompass and build around from this staple piece. Separately both are worth the visit, but co-located this is a must see. Gear box rotates often, usually with two local artists and a guest artist for each show. The shows are diverse, well curated, and very accessible- physically, visually and intellectually. The person behind the desk offered me some great insights into the creative process and personality of the artists. I felt very welcome here. But I'm confident they will leave you to just look and enjoy if that is your vibe.
