This is a hidden gem! We stumbled upon it on google and went to explore the farm to possibly pick apples. When we got there we learnt apple picking was not happening anymore but they have a huge property with alot of vegetables, a walking and tasting tour and a horse!!! First we met Ben, the magical horse who made our day! We got to brush his hair , feed him and just hang out with him. What a unique experience! Note- They host birthday parties there so the horse can play with the kids. Next we met the main farmer who took us on a walking tour of everything they grow. We tried the most unique flowers, herbs, leaves, etc. most memorable were the chocolate mint, fennel, quinine, edible flowers that taste like cucumber. We tasted alot more including their honey which was great! The farmer was funny, engaging and so knowledgeable too! They sell plants and dried herbs and honey along with veggies and other things. We bought a few things and some plants and had a great chat with the kind farm owner. She is just amazing and knew everything about everything on the farm! Highly recommend! I'm very disappointed reading some of the comments here! I've been here twice now and I had great experience here. It is a farm!!! So just like vegetation in your home garden what's ready and available vary! And nature controls things too, so it's ridiculous to expect they are fully stocked for specific items at all time! Be kind and reasonable! Anyway, we came here late summer last year for the first time and I definitely loved it! Everyone we met who worked there was very informative and friendly! We especially love their honey! Their bees work hard and it paid off! Definitely great especially to fend off allergy (especially if you're local!). The sweet therapy Horse, Ben is adorable, though be careful with his teeth, he is a sweet animal. There is also a cute small dog that sometimes roam around belongs to the sweet lady who works there. On my 2nd visit, I learned that "flowers" can taste like cucumber! No joke! It was fascinating and also rhubarb stalk taste delicious raw, dipped in a bit of honey. We love this little local farm and will definitely come back. A great place to bring kids and teach them to appreciate fresh fruits and veggies directly from the source. read more

The farm is nice, small, close to where we live and we got a personal tour that's the good. I enjoyed going to the farm...until the bill came. They told us a bunch of vegetables was $6 - that's is 2x what I pay at my expensive farmer's market. I picked a very healthy bunch of chard- $6 and then i had 2 beets also $6- what I object to is she says the price (not of everything) but doesn't define what constitutes a bunch. We ended up spending close to $100 for some starts and very little produce. The owner actually seemed embarrassed by the high prices when we commented at check out but still went ahead with outrageous pricing. Glad to support it the 1x but probably won't be returning as it is too precious for me. read more

What an AMAZING way to spend a Sunday afternoon. My boyfriend and I wanted a cute place to pick some fruit that wasn't too far from Berkeley and this was PERFECT! Michael showed us around the garden and gave us tastes of all the herbs, so good! He let us try the rhubarb and honey--oh my gosh so tasty. Everyone was very friendly. I came back home with some blackberries, apricots, honey, and asian pears! I was tempted to get some kale and beets too. But to be honest, what made the experience was the garden tour versus actually picking and bringing home fruit. What a great small local farm experience. This place is definitely geared for learning about the plants and relaxing versus bringing home barrels of fruit. Also you get to meet this friendly horse named Ben! Don't blink or you will miss the little sign out front. Down a short slightly bumpy road culminating at a parking area in a grassy lot. U-Pick ahoy. And a short 20 minutes north of Berkeley on I-80. I wondered how they are able to have so much growing there in such a small space but believe me they do it. As we Walked up to the area that seems to be the entrance there was a table set up with an arrangement of baskets for you to take on your adventure. We were greeted by a very sweet lady named Susan Truscott ... the owner. She seems to be the energy source for everything that grows there. Big smile and bright eyes. She explained the system and that we were to bring our basket back and we would be charged by the basket. After getting our marching orders, we wandered off to say hello to the horse in the back before we began our adventure in the area where they actually grow the vegetables as opposed to the fruit orchard. When we came up front walking into that garden was an amazing experience because half of the stuff that they had in there I had no idea what I was looking at. Fortunately for my wife and I we had the very pleasant opportunity to meet Lucia Perez Loera. Somehow, she became our personal guide wandering through this magical garden. She was bright cheerful and uplifting and made everything seem fun and had a sampling things that I had never seen before or even realized that you could eat. What a wonderful individual, she is also their Internet guru. She deals with everything that's Instagram and Facebook. Be sure to go online and friend them in both places so they can hear your story and encourage other people to support this wonderful business. As she let us deep into this garden to point out there's wonderful edible flowers and edible plants and herbs and I was just printing my toe for one but we kept stuffing our little basket because we knew we would come home and hungrily attack it. As we went along, we got nice little stories from Lucia, and she never ran out of smiles. Being Snoopy I made my way over to the Herb shed where they dry out all their herbs and seldom at farmer's markets in different places. You go in and as this collection of smells in these bags full of wonderful fresh herbs W they dry naturally in this small garden hut that they built for drying. And they had literally hundreds of items ready to go. And the person that was standing there taking care of it all it seemed was Yasmin Gomes. Yes, you guessed it she was also one of the happy people too, it's in the water I think. She explained the process of drying and allowed me to open and smell and taste the herbs and told me if I wanted to buy some it was all for sale. How nice to see all of that. I forgot to mention Michael. He's the veteran here. Since 2014 he's one of the farmers there and he's the 1st person that I had contact with when I called about a month ago about coming down with my daughter. He was warm and inviting and explained the seasons to me and where to look on the Internet to find a list of the seasons and what's growing and the best times to come down and so on. I was glad I had a chance to finally meet him. Let's not forget to mention the other hardworking farmers that are there who would be Tomas, and Ada. Everyone that worked there was busy, believe me. They all had their jobs and nobody needed to tell them what to do because they were busy already doing it. But they all of them were happy in their work. It was a beautiful warm Sunny day I had wonderful taste treats while I was there and plenty that I bought to take home. I would recommend that this is a place that you can actually bring your family. It's totally kid friendly. Bravo Team Cloverfield you will see us come back again. LOL. They obviously haven't told anyone but Disneyland is now not the ONLY happiest place on Earth. read more

A little gem hidden in a residential neighborhood in El Sobrante. A decent enough variety of organic items to choose from, although you may not get everything on your shopping list. Think of it more as a fun outing, unless you know they have what you need. They also have compost for sale. The owners are lovely and helpful people, always willing to chat, if you are. So why not 5 stars? When I paid by credit card I was handed the owner's phone displaying a screen to leave a tip. "Totally voluntary" I was told, as the phone was passed toward me. Really? Suggesting a tip at a u-pick-it farm? That you *own*? Such a tactic is manipulative, disingenuous and uncomfortable. It's enough to make me not want to return. If you need more money, then just raise your prices. If I do return, I will l definitely bring cash for my purchases. read more

A fun experience for any group, family, or individual! Came here with a group or 25+ folks for a club retreat, and the staff at Cloverfield Farm went above and beyond. Their intimate but mighty farm seems to have a little bit of everything, and is truly a great experience. Michael was an absolute joy to talk to, and taught each of our members lots! From honey to squash to dried tea leaves, this farm has plenty of options for you and is a great way to spend some time outside on the weekends. There is plenty of parking and the staff are very kind. Magic Ben was also a joy to talk to. He's the horse they have on the farm, and is very friendly, but will try to eat your apples! If you're looking for large amounts of produce similar to those that you might find in inner California such as Brentwood, this might not be the place for you as the size of the produce is generally smaller due to the farm being organic and a smaller scale area (4 acres). However, if you love plants, are looking to learn and ready to hear stories, this is the perfect spot for you. read more

This place is great. The farm was beautiful, everyone was friendly and it was a relief not to have to drive all the way out to Brentwood past Concord to find a place like this. I picked all the sour pie cherries they had left off their Morello cherry tree and hope to go back in winter to pick guavas. Great place for kids. The highlight of going was that Michael gave me a "taste tour" through a patch of herbs they're growing- chocolate mint, sheep sorrel (supposedly helps suppress cancer if you drink it daily as a tea), intensely flavorful fresh oregano, mallow leaf from which they make marshmallows, wormwood which treats malaria and is used in alcoholic drinks, nasturtium, and many, many others. Haven't been to other Bay Area farms so cannot make comparisons, but it was a great trip. read more

This is a family run farm, people there are insanely nice and friendly. However they barely had anything- no apples, pomegranates, etc as advertised on their website. If you're looking for spices and herbs, you'll get some stuff, but if you're looking for u pick of the larger fruit things they advertise, you'll be disappointed. Granted how hard it is to plant and run a family farm I feel really bad posting this but at the same time, we were so disappointed after driving out there for 4 hr round trip and so don't want anything else in same situation. read more

I called to ask if it was a good time to pick apples and multiple people audibly laughed. They said if I liked them tiny and tart it would be, in a very sarcastic tone. So then I asked when a good time would be and they said FALL (it's Oct 5)...before I could ask them to clarify when that time frame would be according to them since I don't have an agricultural background they rudely hung up on me. 10/10 would NOT recommend and I will be telling the large group I was going to bring the same. What a wonderful day spent picking organics from this little farm tucked away in the middle of the city. Sure I could have gone to a farmers market but it was way more fun going out with family for the day and harvesting our own fruits, vegetables and herbs in the sunshine. It's pretty simple, check their online calendar for available produce, pick up a basket and clippers when you get there and go for it! They even have honey and olive oil for tasting and purchase. They charge by the bushel and you can pay via Venmo. There's a beautiful Appalachian horse named Gentle Ben there who roams around. You can pet him, take a picture with him and feed him apples. This was a real treat for my granddaughter. We'll definitely be back for the various season's pickings. read more

He was so condescending and was making fun of and commenting on my group's clothes the entire time. We were told that there would be apples to pick yet when asked when we got there, again we were expecting an apple orchard because that was advertised, he said that 50 paying customers came and took them all the day before. Had a miserable experience here with friends today. We were hoping to be able to have a u-pick experience without driving a long way, but this just doesn't fit the bill. The growing area is chaotic and wild with no real paths. The blackberry bushes are obvious: they're around all the edges of the parking lot, the garden enclosure, etc. They're fine but harder to pick from than at a more organized berry farm. The fruit trees are dotted around the hillside, and there's typically only one of each. This is all all right on its own, but it means that it's hard to know which way to go or whether you're missing anything. After we arrived, we were treated to a long tour of the vegetable garden, which was okay if filled with some highly dubious information (like mugwort being the default and primary flavoring for tonic water). However, we were there for fruit, so I asked what was ripe and was told to slow down, relax, and explore in a highly condescending manner. "There are sooo many things to discover. Try them and see if you like them." I eat a lot of exotic fruit. I already know if I like things. I just needed to know what was actually growing on the farm. Again, there is NO WAY TO KNOW what's there without being told because it's fairly chaotic. You could huff and puff up the hill and not be sure if you'd actually seen all the ripe fruit. There are no paths, and it was hot out. I wanted to make a plan, so I asked again. Again, one of the owners refused POINT BLANK to answer this most basic of u-pick questions: what fruit is actually ready today? ~Relax! Slow down! It's an experience!~ Read the room, you mansplaining jackass. I asked another employee who had no idea and could not answer. Finally, I found a third employee who was able to tell me that three types of plums and the blackberries were available. (The blackberries weren't actually ripe though.) I'm not a huge fan of plums. If I'd just been told that in the first place, I could have left an hour earlier and a lot less sweaty and pissed off. There's nothing relaxing about being lied and condescended to. This isn't "enthusiasm" and accidentally coming on too strong for your visitors: this is being a pill on purpose after being repeatedly asked a simple question. It's not type-A to want to not bake in the sun while searching for something that isn't there. That other woman reviewer was right and, frankly, no woman should bother going near this place. Don't try to spin this. That behavior was unacceptable and no amount of "I'm sorry we care sooo much" will make it less so. read more

The owners were extremely kind to give us personal treatment and answer the questions very thoroughly about their offerings. When you get there, you'll see a map identifying what's growing there. We got some olive oil and honey. It's such a special, tucked away treat to know that what you're getting is hyper local Also, of course this is not safe way so expect that the offerings will be seasonal. And they are professional Permaculture us however they are not magicians so you can't expect ripe apples year round or something . I would say go and keep an open mind that maybe you are not going to fill your refrigerator, however you'll have a beautiful time enjoying the sunshine and critters for sure and walk away with some produce treasures read more

The people there were nice, and you get a tasting tour of different flowers and herbs. Nice garden and orchard to walk around... but there was no ripe fruit to pick. We were told on the phone that there was lots of fruit but in reality there was no ripe fruit on the trees within reach. It's a nice experience for a little bit but don't expect to come home with any fruit. The best you can get is some herbs or leafy greens. read more

I visited this place a few weeks ago. I missed the turn into the entrance driveway twice, lol. The farm isn't visible from the street. Make your way down the not too long driveway to the parking area that is in the middle of the shed with the honey & herbs, the cute grove of trees and the u-pick garden area. Wear a hat (no shade), tennis shoes, or sturdy sandals, as the garden beds are close together, covered with mulch or bark (like their photo) and some areas aren't flat, especially the grove. It'll be best to bring your own cutters or snips, and a basket or reusable bag to collect. They have a handful of snips and baskets but those might be in use by others. You can walk around and ask for help. They'll show you around and are very friendly. There's an area in the back where I saw people with chairs but I didn't ask about it. There were leafy veggies, some beans, varieties of mint to choose from when I went. read more

Life is good from The City Slickers in West Oakland to Cloverfield Farms the food is fresh and there is a lot to choose from. If you're interested in my review on The City Slickers check it out. At Cloverfield Farms you're allowed to be one with nature. Feel the dirt, pick the herbs, beans and vegetables that interest you. The staff is nice, helpful and accommodating. There is a lot to choose from black beans, stevia leaves, different variations of kale, champion collards, two different types of mints, peppers and parsley, green onion, brussel sprouts, cilantro and broccoli. I can go on and on but the bottom lines is that you and your family will eat healthier and be in control of what goes into your mouth because this farm is organic. You can purchase plants, herbs and veggies by the handful or by the bag. It is highly recommended that you coordinate the process by bringing markers and paper bags to label your goods. This system will save you a lot of time and headaches because my first time I had so much I had to smell and taste what I bought to recognize my vast produce treasures. This place is AMAZING! My brother and I took my mom here for Mother's Day and she had so so so much fun! It's a cute little farm where you can pick your very own ORGANIC fruits and vegetables. The owner, Susan is very very nice and she actually runs the farm herself! Michael, a very knowledgeable gentleman was there too! You can tell how passionate they are about their crops. They're both more than willing to help. If there is anything that you're unsure you'll like, you can always sample it. As Michael says, "6 for the belly, 1 for the basket!" Pricing is very fair, and in my opinion, good for fresh organic produce. A handful is about $5 and a whole basket is about $30. If your basket is only half or a little more than half full then that's about $15 - $20! They have baskets available for you to carry what you've harvested in while at the farm. I recommend you bring a few bags to take your goodies home in. Just a tip: Wear comfortable tennis shoes and pants, as well as extra sun protection. It is a farm after all! You may initially get scared entering the farm. But keep going down the driveway! There, you'll reach a bark lot and that's where the farm is. It's a great place and I highly recommend it! read more

This farm is very small but cute. My experience here could have been better but the male owner would not leave us alone. There was a 10 minute intro when we arrived and he was very pushy and sarcastic. If I want to try something I will. It was very uncomfortable to have someone that didn't get it when I said "I want to look around alone". My boyfriend is too nice and listened to his stories but wanted to leave so bad. I said we will be leaving now and he was rude asking where we're going, why, just try this. If we have a question we will ask but we didn't ask for a guided tour, we came to have a nice time and pick a few items. Unfortunately, there was really no fruit or many vegetables. Mostly herbs, some rhubarb and some chilies. Might be better to come when they're busy so the owner doesn't pester you the entire time. read more

The farm is very small. When we came one Sunday afternoon in August, everything has been picked through. No tomato, no beans, no fruits...the only thing they had was Kale and herbs. Also the garden just looked disorganized, and messy. We also visited in the height of the pandemic and we saw the staff not wearing proper masks. They had on a thin veil of a scarf/bandana...no filter. They should have been taking more precaution. They meet lots of families throughout the weekend, they could meet someone who is asymptomatic. I also saw some families who are not wearing a mask, and no mask on their children. We didn't feel comfortable staying long. We bought olive oil for $15, and i picked five leaves of kefir lime leaves, and a handful of autumn berries that they charged me $5. It was money not really worth spending. read more

Exactly what I was looking for: an organic farm where I could pick my own fruit and veggies. The people there were very nice and knowledgeable. They took time to explain the layout of the farm and encouraged us to try a lot of the vegetables as we were roaming around. The fruit was mostly not ready so I'll be back a bit later in the year! Finally, the property was really easy to access from the freeway, yet the noise from the main street was inaudible. We left with a huge basket of vegetables including lots of things we hadn't tried before. We also left full from all of the sampling. It's $30 a basket and they accept card. read more

Oh man, what a cheating. This sites appears on google search, for cherry picking. I called them, and asked if they have cherries. The guy (may be owner) answered yes, it is open. We drove 45 min to this farm. He was just talking and talking, and not showing where are cherries. He said, they grow upon tree! Upon asking where are trees? He says you have to discover. etc.! Wonderful organic farm..on a small scale so it is a great place to see, learn about, sample and pick so many different beautiful and unique varieties of seasonal vegetables, herbs, fruits and lots of edible flowers that are grown in a way that is beneficial to the earth and us, rather than large scale commercial agriculture. The plants are in constant rotation so there would be different things you could find at different times-we filled baskets with a little bit of a lot of different things. The people who work there were lovely and friendly, pointing out various plants and interesting facts, showing things to the kids such as the beneficial bugs in the compost pile, as well as giving us time to just explore and wander, taste things, and see the horse. Our kids were fascinated and are asking to go back. Really great place that is peaceful, educational for kids and anyone interested in gardening or sustainable organic environmental practices, and definitely for some high quality fresh, lovely organic produce. read more
