This is the worst dentist I have ever been to. On my 2nd or 3rd visit, the gal at billing informed…read moreme that I already had an upper denture which has been paid for by Medicaid. WHAT? What I had in my upper jaw was several teeth that had become infected, including one which had broken off at the gum line. I was very upset to discover that they had made such a major error. When I checked into switching dentists, Medicaid wouldn't approve it because the work had supposedly already been done. So, I was forced to stay with Summit. Summit referred me to an oral surgeon so that I could (finally) get my infected upper teeth removed under sedation and then immediately fit me with an upper denture. When I called Summit to touch base right before all my upper teeth were pulled, the staff member who answered was a font of misinformation. She told me that I didn't have to come in to be fit for dentures because that had already been done. Then she abruptly hung up. Naturally, when I showed up at the oral surgeon's a few days later, they did not have my upper plate because it had never been made. I had to start over from square one. I finally had my upper teeth pulled 3 days ago and had my upper denture put in. Summit Family lied to me again and told me that I would NEVER have to come back to have my denture checked for proper fit, etc. I asked my oral surgeon if this was true. He was very surprised and told me that "no," I needed to have the denture inspected and that I should call Summit the very next day for an appointment. Well, I've now got an appointment for March 30, but I wish it could be with anyone EXCEPT Summit. Having all my teeth pulled is proving to be quite the ordeal, and I don't know where to turn for help. Do NOT use Summit Dental if you value your own well being.

And when I ended up missing an appointment 4 months later because my dog had needs for an emergency vet appointment, which became priority, they, rather than reschedule me, dismissed me as a patient. For your own good don't use Summit Family Dental. I showed them loyalty as a patient, yet was shown none in return. But rather, I feel as though I was thrown away without regard or concern as to the cause that my appointment was missed. They were quite heartless and rude. RSS

The ultimate in quality, professionalism and care and concern/empathy…read more I was visiting Durango/Bayfield this past April of 2024. While on my visit, I began experiencing severe pain in an area of my molar. The very next day it got so bad, my face eyes and cheeks had swelled and I could no longer manage it. I phoned my Lakewood, CO Dentist, whom has taken care of our family for over 30 plus years. She said "don't drive home, I know a colleague of mine from Dental School who now practices in Durango and Bayfield, CO." I immediately called this office at 801 Florida and was quickly taken care of. The receptionist ( all of them ) were compassionate and got me in the very next day. Dr. Courtney Heinicke and his Assistant Kiffanie were outstanding. They listened and had great touch in caring for my emergency. After a quick X-Ray it was clearly visible that the tooth had two cracks in it and could not be saved. I was emotionally tearful because I didn't want to loose it. They carefully explained the process to me and answered all my questions. Dr. Heinicke numbed me up quickly and proficiently. I became much more comforted by their care. The tooth came out quickly and my body was finally eased. They assured me that they were also available 24/7 if I had any post issues..... A on call Doctor was just a phone call away. I did not need any post care, I followed up with my Dentist when I came home from my visit. Thank you to this fantastic staff, they" kinda saved my life that day."

I read the great reviews for Dental Associates of the SW so I called in for an appointment. It was Friday am and they said the first available will be on Monday. They put me on a waiting list for Friday and sure as anything - I get a call for 1 pm. The entire staff and the dentist were remarkable. The dentist said he would try to save my root canaled tooth.... and he did! And it was no easy feat. Hero dentistry at its best. Super happy with my experience and would highly recommend.
