I was told on January 5 that it would be reviewed, but I have heard nothing. The bill from Ascension for urgent care is for $520. My insurance adjustment was $194, I paid a $50 copay and I owe $276. This is for hospital services. I would like an explanation of why this is so high when it was a 15 minute visit with no tests at all and not even a hospital gown used as all they did was look at a rash to give me a prescription. Again this is urgent care, not the emergency room. Next, the bill from Emergency Medicine Specialists is for $582, of which insurance adjustment is $311.70 leaving me with $270.30. This bill says code 99204 which is a level 4 visit. As I only saw a an assistant for 5 minutes and a nurse for about 10 minutes, the code should be 99202 ( 20-30 minutes) at most or something less. Both of these bills seem to be incorrect, and I need this resolved but can't seem to get a response from Ascension. Almost $650 for a quick evaluation of a rash after insurance at an urgent care clinic is outrageous and incorrect.

The nurse was excellent, mainly because she was my age. You rarely see mature, experienced, middle aged nurses anymore because hospitals and physicians have treated them so poorly. And, you rarely see actual physicians any more at urgent care, though they do charge you like they came in. Doesn't matter, I prefer nurse practitioners anyway, they are trained to actually listen to patients. This urgent care included entertainment while waiting, someone managed to lock the restroom empty so the receptionist had to break in. She picked the lock like a pro, then pretended she didn't know what she was doing which was clearly not the case. It was very funny. Everyone treated me with respect, which at my age is a little unusual in any hospital setting, though I don't like how all these really young workers assume it's okay to start being on a first name basis. But no one treated me like an old fool just because I'm old, so that was great. Ascension is still suffering from all sorts of software problems and the bill from this visit has been annoying and they make it very hard to pay. I get these dire emails saying I have to pay but there's no account number, no way to log in to pay without an account number, then no human can answer the phone to pay the bill either. Still, I liked the treatment I got. All in all, in spite of the pain, this was the nicest urgent care visit I've had in a long time.
