I had never been to a chiropractor, so I had no idea what to expect. She assessed my neck, told me I was a special case, but could help me, and then proceeded to adjust my neck and spine. Immediately following my first adjustment, I became extremely nauseous and dizzy. She told me it was my body releasing toxins, and that it would resolve in a few days. To be sure, she wanted me to return to her every day that week for an additional adjustment and had me pre-pay for the sessions. After each session, I still felt dizzy...almost like I had just woken up and my neck continued to hurt. My focus was all off and my eyes frequently drifted when trying to focus on something. Not normal...I had never experienced this before her first adjustment. Her prescription? More sessions with her...because I was a "special case." When I called her to tell her that I didn't think her adjustments were helping me and that I was going to stop seeing her, she threatened my decision by saying that "my insurance company may refuse to pay for the sessions if they find out I am going against doctor orders of continued adjustments." She said she could still help me and other doctors won't understand my "special case." That phone call was the end of my relationship with her. It has been almost a year and I am still experiencing the visual distortion and focus-problem affects from her adjustments. Other chiropractors I have talked to said she completely mis-read the causes of my neck pain. She took x-rays of my neck and of my neck only. It turns out the cause of my neck pain was in my lower back...something she didn't even think to explore before she started adjusting me. Other chiropractors were shocked she didn't x-ray my whole back and went right for a neck adjustment. Her operation seems to be based around how much money she can get from patients, and my guess is she didn't x-ray my back because it was expensive for her to explore it. Her staff told me they don't get enough money from the insurance companies for the sessions, and it is probably for this reason why my whole experience at her office felt like I was being duped by a sleazy salesman. In addition to her pre-pay request, after each of my sessions her staff tried to "up-sell" me with a whole bunch of health supplements that had no relevance to my neck. I see she has many good reviews on here, but if I could go back and change one thing about my life in the last year, it would be to never have visited her. She only made my body worse.

From the beginning, she was compassionate, knowledgeable, and always willing to think outside the box to find treatments and exercises that would help me feel better and continue making progress. She took the time to listen, adjust my treatment based on how I was doing, and encouraged me every step of the way. Thanks to her care, I regained so much mobility and function in my shoulder and felt confident throughout the recovery process. I love the 1-on-1 time and not having to "share" as I had experienced in other places. The only chin scratcher for me didn't actually come from my PT Catrina, but from the owner who popped in (even though the door was closed--sometimes I need to lift my shirt to access certain spots on my back) with a student who was shadowing. I got no heads up, and I wasn't asked if it was ok that she observer my session. I would have happily said yes, but I was more concerned that I wasn't even asked. Unfortunately, my insurance changed, and I was no longer able to continue therapy with her, which genuinely made me sad because I felt I was in such good hands. Came here for a hip injection (not cool, modern, and groovy but rather anatomically located left…read morepelvis proximal end of my femur) and I was rather anxious having researched the procedure. Of course I also researched the surgeon, one very capable fellow named Dr. Edwards who has an impressive training and experience record. Yes, I have trust issues. He was just the right combination of confidence, respectful bedside manner, and efficacy that made me feel silly when it was over and done with in the blink of an eye. For procedures like this, do not look at the needles, but do be aware of how far away (in surgeon's distances) important nerves are from said needles. The current imaging technology that allows for well guided needle insertion also makes these extremely low risk routine procedures. I'm still talking to myself here. The clinic is clean, the staff is very good, I especially appreciate being treated as if I'm not old and confused when I do provide some evidence that this might be the case. I do not see the need for the physician's assistant, seemed a superfluous extra cost layer but that's American Healthcare. The only complaint I have is a pretty serious one, it's very hard to get in for an appointment in the first place. I was referred 6 weeks before the procedure by my Ascension nurse practitioner (excellent btw, NPs are a better choice for primary care) but I had to call myself. The first four calls didn't get me through a completely non-medical screening agent who was only interested in my financial situation. But also they were all quite incompetent, they could not ascertain, verify that I have Medicare plus supplemental. I do, but since they couldn't substantiate this, they wouldn't make an appointment. I was in considerable discomfort which is why I was persistent, but they clearly do not care about patient pain or health at the entry level. I had to make an appointment with another orthopedic surgeon (another 3 phone calls) who works with Dr. Edwards at another clinic and get referred back to Edwards. All of these phone calls of course have to be while I'm supposed to be working. Then, once scheduled, the surgical clinic has to call and talk to me in person, again while I'm at work and not allowed to take phone calls. It's like the clinic, indeed much of the American healthcare delivery system is stuck in the 20th century for communications technology. Heck, I'm an old man and I learned how to use Google Calendar, Internet messaging, e-mail, and SMS. I know it's possible, my nurse practitioner and her office, and dentist as well can use all of these so communication is quite easy. The getting in part was so unpleasant and inconvenient this might have been a two star review in spite of how adept Dr. Edwards is if it weren't for a single act of respect from the front desk person (I won't name her in case she wasn't supposed to do this) who agreed that the office needs to catch up and move on from late 1900s phone tag. Or maybe I should find my telephone answering machine and hook it back up.
