A truly delicious meal with everything already prepared so it was simply a case of putting in the oven or saucepans. Meat was succulent and vegetables were scrumptious. Can certainly recommend.

While we have some truly spectacular butcher shops here in the Bay Area, I must say that the charm and authenticity of Hussey's is on a completely different plane. I mean, you do have to actually board a plane if you want to go there, but it's really a destination level butcher. Their sister store, just down the lane a bit, Hussey's Grocery doesn't have a review written yet - but I'll get to it. I was enthralled from the very first - there's a truly Locals Only Pub that serves Sunday Roast with all the Fixin's - one of Wayne's brothers works the bar there and rotates in to Husseys as well. There's a third brother - I don't believe I had the pleasure of making his acquaintance; most of my interaction was with Wayne. First day in - he humored me: let me take video on an actual camera of him breaking down a beautiful cut of meat for my requested Steak Tartare. His knife techniques are surgically precise and beautiful to behold! I also picked up three house made sausages: pheasant and plum, I believe - or perhaps it was pork and plum. Delicious - perfection. They practice whole animal butchery, and will graciously pause to fill a last-minute order/request or head back to the walk-ins from a primal cut. The butcher block is stunning - Wayne says they never stay 'round much because they're sanded down daily as part of their food safety practice of course, and people just queue up to purchase them. When you do pop by Hussey's, you will note that their eggs are pastured and they do not refrigerate them. You can also carry parcels from the Grocery to the Butcher shop and vice versa on the honor system, and they'll ring you up at either spot. I miss it so much!

The staff is always friendly, service is quick, prices are reasonable, and everything I have ever purchased there has been amazing. On top of all this, the staff is super knowledgeable. 9 out of 10 times I go in I have no shopping agenda. Not only can they recommend what's hot, but they can also tell you how best to cook it (and they have been right 100% of the time thus far). Highly recommend!

Keyword: clean. And, actually, in a strange way, really vivid and beautiful-- bright red, healthy looking cuts in a minimally decorated 'farmhouse-chic' (if that's a thing) space with a metal chain door curtain. The guys behind the counter are clearly career butchers, dedicated to their craft, and very knowledgeable. If you don't see something you need, ask. They'll more than likely have it in the back. I may be a poor student, but if I am going to drop real money on any aspect of my home cooking, it will be the meat. And I think the Ginger Pig is worth every extra pence it costs in both flavour and happy cow/pig/duck karma-points (plus supporting a really special local business). I also highly recommend their cook book.

They sell cooked rotisserie chickens here, and also provide a full range of poultry, including guinea fowls, ducks, etc. I decided to order our Thanksgiving turkey from them after speaking with the owner, where we discussed our requirements and agreed the size and specific type. On the morning of our dinner, they delivered a free range Bramble Farms turkey from Surrey directly to our flat. It was a great tasting turkey, and we had 15 happy guests as a testament to this. Overall a great experience, and I can't wait to go back to try some of their other birds, perhaps a duck next time. A great place to order a Christmas turkey, too!
