This drive is the one connecting the grand Teton NP area to Yellowstone. It's an absolutely beautiful scenic drive, and takes about an hour or so to do the whole thing either way assuming no particularly bad traffic. When the weather is good, the views are truly stunning and you pass both Yellowstone and grand Teton NP entrance signs that are great for a quick photo op on this road. If you're in either of the parks, I really would rec doing the drive to see the other if you've got the time! read more
We exited the park through the south entrance and got on the John D . Rockefeller Je. Memorial Parkway to go to the Grand Teton National Park. The parkway is 57 miles long. In 1972, Congress dedicated a 24,000-acre parcel of land as John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway to recognize his generosity & foresight. The highway from the south Grand Teton to West Yellowstone is named in honor of Rockefeller. read more
This is a beautiful parkway and a beautiful drive if you are lucky enough to be transiting between Grand Tetons National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Named for John D. Rockefeller who purchased most of this land and donated it so that it could be preserved between these two parks and this wonderful ecosystem... it has several pull-offs where you can take photos and relax for a bit. We stopped at a few overlooks - notably the Snake River one made famous by Ansel Adams with photos there to commemorate his famous shot. You can recreate it yourself now but it's slightly different after so many years. A day and night speed limit denotes the fact that there are wild elk and deer roaming through here and you'd better watch out for them at night bc they tend to find their way onto the open road in this vast plain. read more
Drive like a Rockefeller! This roadway is gotta be one of the most scenic parkways in the world! You're going from one of the greatest National Parks in the world, to another of the greatest National Parks in the world! Why they didn't just make this one big ol' park, I'll never know, but this roadway traverses the no man's land that goes between them. Actually, the strip of land between the parks is a national forest, with a few private and public campgrounds. We drove in on the Ashton Flagg Road, not from Grand Teton or Yellowstone. I wouldn't recommend this route to get to the John D Rockefeller Jr Memorial Parkway. The Rockefeller Parkway felt like driving on a cloud compared to the Ashton Flagg Road. There's no service stations to speak of. It runs parallel to the Snake River, so be careful of where you're going! There's some scenic pull off spots, especially by the signs that welcome you in to each national park at each end of the parkway. Rockefeller paid for the land and installation of this roadway to make sure that these national parks could be for the benefit of everyone, and tried to make them more accessible. read more

And you thought that all those Rockefeller's did was count their money in the bank? Well, John D. Rockefeller Jr. gets the nod for this memorial parkway between the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park named in his honor. Visiting Wyoming in the 1920's, Rockefeller was shocked at the haphazard development in the area and wanted to protect the spectacular scenery. He began to buy land and later turned over 32,000 acres of Jackson Hole valley to the feds in an effort to protect and preserve the land for future generations. According to the National Park website, "in 1972 Congress dedicated a 24,000-acre parcel of land as John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway to recognize his generosity and foresight. Congress also named the highway from the south boundary of Grand Teton to West Thumb in Yellowstone in honor of Rockefeller." This is a great honor as the parkway passes through some of the most beautiful lands in the area and lies at the center of the great Yellowstone ecosystem. Beyond the views and the ever-present wildlife, the Parkway offers hiking, camping, boating and fishing areas. There are lots of turn-outs where visitors can stop to stretch their legs and take in the scenery. The Snake River flows directly through the parkway and makes it the premier trout fly fishing spot in the area. Drive carefully on the Parkway, as you may spot grizzly bears, black bears, moose, elk, bighorn sheep or mule deer. John D. Rockefeller Jr. did the right thing with his family millions. Oprah is doing the same thing over in Hana, Hawaii on the island of Maui. She is buying up land and turning it over to the state or the federal government to preserve it in perpetuity. 5 YELP STARS for the memorial Rockefeller Parkway. read more
