Unprofessional! Cashed my check in 5 mins, then made me wait WEEKS for my report!! I had to call three times to get it

Hired John to provide a structural engineering assessment of a house I had after hearing from a general inspector that there may be structural issues with the house. He provided me a verbal assessment upon finishing his inspection during which he stated that there were some issues, but specifically that helical piers were not going to be necessary (which was a big relief). Upon learning of another structural engineer's report (which we received AFTER he verbally gave me his own, supposedly independent, verbal report), John point blank REFUSED to put his report in writing, even going so far as to accuse me of trying to withhold information (which I did not have). He then decided that, in fact, the other structural engineer's report was perfect and he agreed with it completely - the other engineer's report said that there were a HOST of other problems with the house, including the necessity of helical piers which is a material difference. Bottom line is that John was unwilling to stand behind his own assessment and work and provide me with an independent opinion about the structural characteristics of this house. I suspect he is either buddies with the other engineer or intimidated in some fashion by him, but either way the complete lack of professional integrity was both frustrating and disappointing. Do not use John Plummer if you want an independent opinion on structural engineering. (BTW, I did hire a different engineer whose report largely confirmed what John had told me over the phone, but which he refused to provide in a written report...) read more
