John Lewis Cardiff 3th floor coffee shop. I was there few weeks ago in Cardiff. I went to the John Lewis 3th floor coffee shop 2 times. One day I had breakfast , another day I had lunch. The service was slowly, my latte was terrible. It's looks like they have staff , who never done before coffee . The staff are just hanging around there laughing. Tables were dirty. Looks like out of control there. I used to work in the catering business before! They provided really poor service! I am not going there anymore! I didn't expected form John Lewis! read more

Visiting Cardiff from abroad, needed a few items, came here. Selection was fine and I was having a nice time shopping. I had about £100 of merch under my arm and was considering a nice and very expensive raincoat when a friend started messaging me. So I stood there for a few minutes texting on my phone. Presently some condescending w*** employee came over and asked very rudely how my day was going. The implication, obviously, that I was some kind of low-life loiterer because, I dunno, I was standing on my phone while not looking posh enough in your upscale establishment. I bought the items I'd already selected and left. This is the kind of nonsense I escaped the UK expressly to avoid. Take your one star and think about what you've done. read more

I must admit I was never that fussed when I found out Cardiff would be getting a John Lewis store. I was familiar with the store and wasn't sure if we really needed it, especially as there were rumours about Harvey Nicks coming to Cardiff (now wouldn't that have been something). However I have been most pleasantly surprised, and seem to be in there quite frequently. For starters the beauty section is quite good they stock most luxury brands it's nice to finally be able to purchase stuff from Laura Mercier and Kiehls in Cardiff, though I do wish they'd stock Eve Lom like they do in some of their other stores (so if anyone from John Lewis is reading this, I know I'm not the only one). As for their clothing, in one word impressive. This is so much better than the selection in their Bristol store, which is nothing to write home about. They stock great luxury brands like Nicole Farhi, Reiss, Whistles, Fred Wright Mason, Hudson jeans and even Mulberry bags (yay). However they could do with a few more till points, which are a bit of a nightmare to find. When it comes to furniture most items on the website are also on display, this is not the case of other John Lewis stores (I once had to go up to London to look at a bed). Considering the store has not been open long the staff are all very knowledgeable on their products (I couldn't get over how much the lady serving me knew about bedding). All this is really just the tip of the iceberg, the second largest John Lewis has so much more to offer; stationery, curtains, appliances etc... which I'm sure I'll discover in months to come. read more

I too am a fan of this John Lewis. Its so massive its quite easy to get lost over the 4 floors. I can really ever go here for gifts and also because it has a really good knitting/sewing section with everything you need to make and fix stuff. Anyway I don't want to talk about the shop, I want to talk about pancakes! The Place to Eat cafe in John Lewis is really good. There aren't many department store cafe's where they will serve you up duck confit for lunch. But my favourite bit is the creperie counter and the very yummy chilli pancakes. Its not massively expensive and a good change from all the fast food places in the St David's centre, and a nice place to take rest while you shopping. Find it on the top floor. read more

I've had another one of those deja vu moments when it comes to Yelping, I'm sure I had reviewed this place before, but obviously not, so here we go (again?) This branch of John Lewis is a huge, impressive store located in the St David's mall in Cardiff, just near the Bridge, which basically connects the mall to this huge John Lewis store, which has such a big, marvelous building, it can be seen throughout Cardiff even when you're pulling into the station on the train, Cardiff Central that is. The store is huge, over 4 floors, two of which seem to have access into the St David's mall, which is a large shopping mall over two floors in Cardiff, this store is so big, it even has an opticians, which is pretty cool, having never seen this in a John Lewis department store before, especially in my local store in the Manchester Trafford Centre. There are store guides throughout the store, with mens-wear and mens fashion being on the Ground Floor, and the Opticans, cafe and women's fashion as well as watches being on the 1st floor, as you move up you can find Children's fashion and clothing and Nursery, Sports and Uniform stuff on the third floor, and on the second it is more of a "home" section with decorating, pictures, mirrors, and furniture being stocked here. Of course, as with most places in Cardiff, where-ever there is something in welsh, there is something in English and vice-versa. I came in to take a quick browse at the mens-wear, which makes me think I have definitely reviewed this place before, with big brands such as Hugo Boss stocked here, with high price tags, such as coats which could go up to £400 - £500, I suppose one can only dream, yet still brag about my Hugo Boss glasses that I picked up at discounted rate from Vision Express. The store was in a way like a maze, it was hard to navigate around even with the store guide, and even on my first visit, I had to walk out as I couldn't find a lift, nor a member of staff and felt like it was pure look to find it, tucked away into a corner of the store the second time. I would love to give this store 3, perhaps even 4 stars but due to the issues with the lift, and not a staff member in-sight, making me feel like they have gone into hiding, like Liverpool fans after that famous Steven Gerrard slip. which caused Demba Ba to score for Chelsea, and resulted in Liverpool losing the Premiership title to my beloved Manchester City, so because of issues with the staff, lifts and layout I sadly feel this store only deserves a high two star rating, perhaps around a 2.6 or a 2.7, but I don't think it is there yet to deserve a three, for The White Stripes, a 7 nation army can't hold them back, so perhaps they have some advice for John Lewis, that they need an "army" if you will of 7 staff, on the shop floor, mingling and helping customers and making John Lewis seem like a nice, high-end store to shop and not somewhere where the customers are forgotten, I could make football metaphors all-day but I won't, and just feel this store deserves two stars. read more

I must admit, although I've lived in Cardiff for a while now I hadn't visited John Lewis until recently (needed to pick up some wrapping paper for Christmas) and I'm really happy with my experience and would definitely be coming back. I'm not normally a big fan of massive department stores like this but John Lewis definitely won me over. ~ Atmosphere: This place is HUGE! I'm not not joking. The building is beautiful and the inside is massive with multiple stories of shopping. For Christmas, they even have a gift sections for generic gift ideas such as chocolates, sweets, and alcohol. ~ Customer Service: Given my inexperience with John Lewis, I definitely needed help finding my way around. Thankfully, there were loads of staff around and it didn't take long at all to track anyone down. With help, I hunted down wrapping paper and when I realised I needed some clear tape, another employee was not too far away for me to ask to help me find that as well. If you're like me and you felt a bit overwhelmed by how massive the store this is, the staff are all very friendly and willing to help. ~ Variety: With a store this big, it's hard to be lacking on variety. Even though I went in with a clear goal in mind, I couldn't help doing a bit of a browse for any gift ideas! ** Food ** John Lewis also has a restaurant called 'The Place to Eat' on their top floor. I'll be honest, my expectations weren't too high but the sausages & mash I had were actually pretty delicious considering they weren't made to order! (It's cafeteria style where you grab a tray and pick what you want). The prices weren't bad either and if definitely not a bad spot to grab a quick lunch amidst shopping. --- I'm really happy about John Lewis being in the heart of the city centre. I have only really looked at the toy section of this shop, which I found to be excellent for a department store. So often, toys and the such-like will be left behind while clothes and bedding take the majority of floor space. I was so happy that this store was open in time for Christmas. Most of the shops were meant to be open in November, but so many of them were delayed. Anyway, I wanted to find some Christmas presents for various small relatives and I found a good selection. There were things to build, make, play with; there were toys for inside and outside and online play. It was brilliant. Also, because it's christmas no one looks at you twice for playing with children's toys, which is great. read more

The cafe on the third floor of John Lewis is tip top tastic! It serves really good freshly cooked food accompanied by a huge beverage range. The food court is split into different sections, one section sells sandwiches and rolls, one sells pastas and salads and the the other sells the most amazing sweet and savory crepes. For children they offer a kids snack box consisting of a sandwich,crisps,fruit, a sweet and a drink. The restaurant itself is light and airy with plenty of tables. They also have superb high chairs for babies. When shopping in John Lewis I smile at the fact you cannot go from one section to the other without someone asking if they can help you. Once I was walking through from the carpark and five people approached me before I had even got to mens wear. It is nice to see a smiling face once in a while..... Just not around every corner and behind every display! read more

The only John Lewis in Wales, and the largest department store in the principality as well, this store is a welcome addition to the St David's 2 development in Cardiff. As with all John Lewis stores, they offer free standard delivery on all orders over £30 and I wouldn't consider buying my large electrical items from anywhere else, due to the competitive pricing and the 'never knowingly undersold' policy, and the free extended guarantee. Their customer service is second to none, I think partly helped by the fact that all members of staff are classed as 'partners' and receive a share of the profits. The best bit by far for me is the fact that the underground car park only costs £1 after 5pm, and given that the store itself is open until 8pm on a week night, it's perfectly placed for me to nip into town after work for a bit of late night shopping, and then have a bite to eat in St David's 2. No-one could find the pillow and duvet which i was looking for but Chris managed to find them in few minutes. Enjoying a gluten-free cake and hot choc special in the Expresso Cafe. Yes, relaxing leather chairs and enjoyable view overlooking the Hayes in wonderful Cardiff makes this an essential part of the day. The store shuts almost every day at a really handy 8pm (10pm in the festive farce period). Staff are friendly,professional and polite although one assistant i encountered resembled a repressed android butler. I felt like creeping up on him and shouting ASDA in his earhole. I'm not keen on the way you are sent to the rear of the building to collect some relatively small items (ie an iPad) it makes it feel like an upmarket Argos. All in all,though,it's an impressive store in a great city Shout QYPE if you visit and I'll buy you a coffee (that'll never happen thank goodness)! After writing 3 letters and 6 emails to John Lewis I am glad to announce they have installed WIFI in all stores including the cafes. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword. read more

Birmingham's Selfridges is an iconic store. Wrapped in giant bubble-wrap, it fuses state of the art architecture with forward thinking attitudes on retail. From the architecture to the products, everything is designed to the highest of standards so it truly is a store in tune with the twenty-first century. Here, the experience of buying and owning is belittled by the exciting and vibrant moments spent actually shopping. However, John Lewis is not Selfridges and it seems somewhat odd that a shop built just six years after Birmingham's landmark department store hasn't caught the bug for trendy shopping within a trendy building. Yes, the exterior is pretty snazz but, with its bland escalators and canteen-style dining, it was out of fashion as soon as it was unwrapped from its cover of scaffolding and opened up to the public. But I would be mad to criticise the wares on offer here. The choice offered by John Lewis exceeds most other stores in the city centre in terms of style and functionality. The shelves are free from throwaway fashionable clutter, so the store always maintains a timelessly stylish look. As landmark store, John Lewis is unaccomplished. However, by providing quality goods in tune with a devastatingly middle class lifestyle, it is a brand with its own long-standing appeal. Oh darling, do make a visit! I never got what all the fuss was about with this John Lewis. Granted, it's pretty massive (4 floors) and you can spend an hour or two browsing around but I certainly didn't. I lasted about 25 minutes. I needed a jacket and in hindsight I shouldn't have been so naive as to think John Lewis would be the place for me! There's only so many times I can see something I like, only for the price tag to reveal it actually costs £900 before I begin to get annoyed and upset by the fact that I can't afford to spend £900 on a jacket. In the end we just spent the rest of the time checking out the other floors and trying to spot the most over-priced item. Even if I did have the money, for such a large shop there's not that brilliant a selection. Certainly nowhere near as much as some other department stores in Cardiff. Oh and if you're wondering what won the most over-priced item award - one pair of horrific sky blue socks - £39.99. read more

I have used John Lewis for years, their customer service is second to none, the products are excellent. Because of this I had my wedding gift as John Lewis vouchers. I had tried twice in different stores, Cardiff and the mall Bristol to buy a sage coffee machine, both times out of stock, I have come into Cardiff a week later to try and buy it again and the price has increased by £100 !! I checked online with other retailers and their prices are still £100 cheaper !! I am utterly disappointed with John Lewis !! Best coffee in Cardiff but meals are very expensive. Customer service is excellen. We bought a tv which was hundreds of pounds cheaper than a leading competitor and the product was very well explained to us. Well located for parking and there is a pick up spot at the very back.
