Decent hotel on the outskirts of Reading so well worth checking out if you need a place to stay…read morewhilst travelling. I only slept, showered and breakfasted here so review based on that as I was out and about the rest of my stay. Checkout is 12 noon which is decent, staff are friendly and helpful. Bed was comfy, TV with freeview/extra channels too. Health club with swimming pool but didn't have time to check out. This is a Holiday Inn so a chain but it was clean, tidy, provided a good breakfast so happy to give 4*. Breakfast if not included in your deal, is £8.95 if bought voucher in advance from reception. Continental, cereals and full cooked breakfast is available, plus there is a pancake station. Kids eat free. Lots of freshly cooked items available and I was able to get gluten free toast in the morning so I was happy at that. Starbucks coffee stand also there too, plus a bar so a pint is about £4, pepsi is £1.90 a bottle. Taxi into Reading is about £10 from the hotel as not much near the hotel. So, yep, had a decent stay and would be happy to book again. Worth checking HI website as double room was about £60 per night during the weekend, though I think during the week stays are pricier!

Modern motel-style low-rise hotel around 3 miles out of Reading but fairly close to the M4 J11…read moremotorway junction. A typical Holiday Inn, part of the Intercontinental chain. The rooms are typical for a hotel of this type, clean and a reasonable size. The public rooms are large and the decor modern. There is plenty of parking, but as it is around the low-rise building you can end up with a long walk back to the entrance.

Not much good stuff to report on, other than the fact that it's a relatively cheap roof over your…read morehead. -Place is in the middle of nowhere - a cab there from Heathrow was nearly 120 pounds. Nearest department store is a 50-pound ride roundtrip -20 minute wait if you want a cab to any nearby store - all cabs have to be special-ordered. -Food is awful - I was never once satisfied, and it's the only option as there are no area restaurants. Chicken rogan josh was bland, stringy and overcooked. Pizza rubbery. Scrambled eggs sitting in about an centimeter of water. Fish and chips unseasoned and only partially crispy. Burger overcooked and chewy, bun stale, lettuce rusted and chips not salted. Desserts were terrible too and tasted old (the line chef actually came over to me and my friend as we were taking some pastries and told us to "Put that pastry back. It's DISGUSTING!") -Room smelled musty, torn carpets, outdated air conditioning, almost no climate control, peeling paint, no screens on windows. -No adapters for plugs at the front desks - seriously!? All these international guests and you don't keep any adapters on hand??? -Terrible wifi - took almost 6 minutes for Yelp to load so I could post this review. And another 4 minutes for this review to be posted Now, how could a hotel be this bad and stay in business, you ask? My cab driver shed some light on that. Apparently this place doesn't care about customer service, because they're going to make money regardless. BMW operates a training facility next door and the hotel is contracted with them to receive a set sum of money per year. Whether or not that's true, hopefully they start taking their business seriously soon because if BMW were to pull out of this contract due to poor service, I don't see how Wokefield would survive. Bottom line: unless you have no other choice, don't bother staying here. I've been in $30/night hostels with better food, nicer-smelling rooms, and better WiFi than Wokefield.
