On my way back from a trip to San Luis Obispo I decided to stop for gas in Santa Ynez. Waze pointed me to this Chevron location and I'm glad that it did. This small four pump gas station with a single automotive repair bay reminded me of something you would see in the movies. Not only what is I able to fill up my tank, but the attendant was kind enough to clean my front and rear windshields wonderfully. Drove in on a Saturday afternoon in dire need of a mechanic. I was fortunate enough that John was still there, he troubleshot the overheating issue with my car and got me squared away in no time. Quality and competent mechanics are fading away and being able to get my issue sorted out with no notice on a weekend was a true stroke of luck. Yesterday afternoon I need it oil in my car. I stopped by to buy some oil and And asked the young man if he had a funnel to pour the oil. The young man immediately offered to check my oil level and pour it for me. I could not believe how polite, courteous, and friendly he was. He truly understands the meaning of customer service! Talk about full service!!! Steven is the best! I wasn't even out of my car yet and he had the hose out to put air in my tires! He knew exactly what I needed and how much to fill them up! I kind of liked this gas station, it's kind of a throwback. While it is very clean and tidy, it looks like it was originally built in the 50's or 60's. Definitely not one of the dime a dozen food-mart/gas stations that have popped up all over our highways. Somehow I found it a little refreshing. read more

We drove from the Bay Area to Southern California and ended up in Santa Ynez to pump gas. We've never seen so friendly gas station! They washed our windows for free and gave a complimentary bottle of water. Their restroom was the cleanest compared to all those fancy big gas stations. Very impressed. Don't know why this place got 1 star! We basically paid for self serve but received full service treatment! Troy was such a hard worker running around cleaning windows and offering to check oil. I'm just sorry we didn't have any cash on us to tip him. Will definitely stop by again (with a few bucks:) next time we are in the the valley!! read more

My Prius had been serviced the day before in Santa Barbara (oil change, mainly) and on my way up to Santa Ynez, the oil light came on. I frantically kept on driving and limped into John's Chevron, where Jonas put my car up on the lift and immediately diagnosed the problem. The oil plug needed to be replaced, as well as 4 1/2 quarts of synthetic oil (which he had on hand). I can't tell you my relief at finding a great little service station with a knowledgeable, friendly, reassuring mechanic. I can't say enough good things about this little station. read more

While on my way to the Live Oak Music Festival, I got a flat tire on my RV on Hwy 154. From past experience, I knew that the lug nuts were a somewhat irregular size. When I called AAA Roadside Service, I informed the dispatcher of this issue. Forty-three minutes later, the AAA truck arrived....sure enough, they did not have the correct size lug wrench thus could not remove my bad tire even though I had alerted the dispatcher. They said it would take at least 1.5 hours for a big enough truck to get there tow me to a repair shop thus messing up my plans for the music festival. They told me there was a good service station about a mile away in Santa Ynez. Since I still had three good tires on the back, we figured I could safely drive that distance. However, my battery was dead because I had turned the headlights on per the sign at HWY 154 and 101 and of course forgot to turn them off in the turmoil. They jumped my battery, and I followed them to John's Chevron Service. John was an older guy from Denmark and was very helpful. Although he had the correct sized lug wrench, he could not get the lug nuts off either. He went and got some other "pointy" tools and determined that the threads on the left side of my vehicle were reverse. I doubt the AAA guys (two "good-ole-boys") would have figured that out...they probably would have stripped the threads on the bolts and I then would never have made it to the music festival. John got the flat tire off and the spare on for a very reasonable price (which AAA should reimburse to me...Yeah, that's really going to happen). However, when I went to leave, the battery was still dead. Rather than just jump me, John put it on his charger for an hour since I was going camping. He didn't charge me anything for that. An hour later, I headed back for the music festival. Four days later, at the end of the festival, the car started right up and I drove home. Great service and friendly attitude. read more

older fellow workin as an attendant asked to wash my windows ... said he'd been working there for 50 years and can't get out of the habit of helping.. that it helps pass the time.. had a quick conversation about the area, the 154 is beautiful after the rains in the spring... the vegetation is greener then green, the sky blue ... perhaps the most unique and pleasant experience possible at a gas station ... read more

Ran out of gas and called these guys. They said they'd bring me 5 gallons for $30. I said great and he said he was on his way. After 30 minutes I called and they said they got busy and weren't going to make it. Didn't even have the courtesy to call to let me know... I live in Santa Ynez and will never use these jokers. read more
