I have been a Johns Hopkins Community Physicians patient for more than 30 years. After moving, I began using the Johns Hopkins Medical Laboratory at Howard County. I have visited this lab three times. The first two experiences were disappointing, but I decided to give it one more chance. Unfortunately, the third visit confirmed that I will not be returning. I arrived before the lab opened and was behind eight or nine people already waiting in line. When the doors opened, a staff member collected everyone's driver's licenses, and we were instructed to take a seat. Shortly afterward, additional patients arrived and checked in using the self-service kiosk. I waited 50 minutes while watching four patients who arrived after me--and checked in at the kiosk--get called before I was. When I could no longer wait, I went to the front desk to retrieve my driver's license and asked how patients were prioritized. I was told that patients are seen based on the time they check in. Apparently, those of us who handed our licenses to the staff member at the door were not actually checked in at that time, placing us at a disadvantage compared with patients who arrived later and used the kiosk themselves. The check-in process is confusing and unfair, the waiting room is small and overcrowded, and the order in which patients are seen appears inequitable. In addition, one of the phlebotomists has been consistently so unpleasant that I find myself hoping I won't be assigned to her. After more than 30 years as a Johns Hopkins patient, I expected a much better experience. Fortunately, I have other options for laboratory services, and I will be using them in the future. read more

I don't think I have ever been in and out of a lab so fast! All the staff was very friendly and came out with no bruce on my arm. My only recommendation is that they need to update their info online. I kept searching what other Johns Hopkins labs were in Columbia and the only result was the one at the hospital. read more

We came here for my 18 month old son's lab work. The phlebotomists and front desk were very caring, sweet, patient, professional, and empathetic with their care of my son. I'm very happy with their service and proud that the two times he's had to get lab work done they've only had to poke him once and not traumatize him too much. Very sweet people. read more

The worst, people there are unprofessional, it takes my husband an hour sometimes more to get his labs, even though he's the only one there. This happened on multiple occasions, sadly my husband has to get labs every couple weeks and this location is the only one closer to where we live. Don't recommend any one going there. read more

I have been to this lab over 10 times and have recieved great and courteous care. I have small veins that roll and the phlebotomist hits the vein every time on the 1st try! Definitely my preferred lab. read more

After reading all of the horrible reviews, it literally took me nearly a month to convince myself to take my daughter to have this important lab work done. I was pleasantly and surprised and so thankful that our experience was not like what others mentioned. We arrived around 9am and there were about 4 patients ahead of us. The waiting room was indeed small like someone else mentioned and no one was wearing a mask. However the phlebotomists were very professional and moved so quickly getting everyone done and out. We were there a total of 20 minutes inclusive of the check-in and blood draw. There were two female phlebotomists who worked so well in tandem that you were not waiting more than 5 minutes before the next patient was called. The young woman that took my daughter's blood was very experienced and professional. She spoke kindly to my daughter and let her know what to expect. She did not take long and my daughter cried a bit but she is also 4. We would have loved to have stickers if that was an option but the phlebotomist being kind, compassionate, and gentle was hands down a better prize. read more

I wouldn't say this was as bad as people reviewed prior to me. I was in and out in 30 min. Honestly these labs are never spectacular, so I don't have great expectations for them. Your only other option for a Hopkins Lab is downtown Baltimore or Lutherville, so that's pretty much it. Just bring a book and wait like the rest of us. Front desk was nice enough. Worst lab ever. I can't believe I have been here more than once--only due to the convenience of location. But I will never be back. The woman at the reception area is obtuse and clearly enjoys taking her time and barking orders at patients. She enjoys having the power to make people wait. Does that sound harsh or mean? It's absolutely true. I've witnessed it many times so it isn't like she just had a bad day. I just went in for a 3-hour fasting glucose test, and after waiting for 50 minutes for her to even take my insurance card, I got up, told her off, and left. There were two people in the waiting room. Seriously? It takes 50 minutes to get 3 people signed in? I don't think so. So I went across the street to another Quest, was seen right away and had zero problems. read more

This lab is in the building where 2 of my doctors are. It's the pits. I've been here multiple times and every time it's a looooong long wait. This time there were NO clients when I arrived and now, 40 minutes later I'm still waiting! No one has been seen. What the heck? Now there are 4 of us waiting. Quest continues to error in their work. I was to give sputum samples but not given the correct amount of specimen cups. I was not told to do it in morning and refrigerate samples. The samples collected are negated due to wrong method of collection.my instance should not pay for the test and I should receive my co pay back. I went to Howard county health dept who gave me the correct information and sample cups. I lost ten days due to lack of proper testing. I heard many other horror stories regarding quest at the county health dept. read more

I've been there once and am never going back! My dr insisted I go there, gave me a quest lab sheet so I could go nowhere else.i even asked.him if I could go to another lab a was told no. Everyone was rude and I had to wait a long time. Once I got in it was even worse. I told the tech where everyone had previously stuck me with success and that she needed to use a small needle--I'm a hard stick--but she didn't listen and stuck me everywhere but there. The sticks were some of the most painful I've ever experienced. After 3 unsuccessful sticks, she wanted to continue but I said no way. I am never going there again. Once the tech starts, it's fine. She finds the vein quickly and with minimal pain. But the wait to see the tech is inexplicably long. Even with only 1 or 2 people in front of you the wait can be 45-60 minutes. read more

I was hoping the negative reviews were exaggerations, but I waited 2.5 hours for a simple blood draw. It took over an hour for me to be even called up to register after I checked in. There were 5 people in the waiting area when I arrived. The entire lab was staffed with one receptionist with an attitude and one phlebotomist, who was pleasant but not exactly busting her butt to get patients served. The worst part was the receptionist's loud voice calling back to the phlebotomist about each person's paperwork - definitely some HIPAA issues there. SLOW. I was here once and there was nobody in front of me and it took them 20 minutes just to get my paperwork squared away. Another time they only did 3 of the six tests that were ordered. I have always had to wait a long time to get blood drawn. If there are two people in front of you expect to wait an hour. Very Disorganized and poorly managed. this was my 3rd experience with this lab. the first was much like on of the reviews below with a long wait time and rude. yesterday was the worst experience I've ever had in a "professional" office. I was upstairs with the doc when we realised that the lab would close in 5 minutes. the nurse called down while I walked down the stairs. there were 2 people waiting and the nurse locked the door. I knocked and her response was "closed" when returning upstairs to the docs office I learned that they didn't answer the call from the nurse. I understand that there is a new lab manager.
