The people who work there were friendly to newbies like me, and explained how things worked patiently (you go on the preview days to check out the items; they sell catalog booklets so that you can circle the lot# of the things you are interested in and take notes. On the day of the auction, they go in the sequential order of the lot # starting from 9am. The later stuff is said to be probably more valuable.). I appreciated that the owners do make a first pass appraisal at all the stuff people wanted to sell, so that the items they had on display were not as hit-or-miss as your typical yard sale.

The items are all online and up for about a week or 10 days. The bids of others are transparent to you. The item descriptions are adequate. The items are art -- paintings, paper works ceramics, jewelry, objets de vertu ( which means precious little things) sculpture, etc. You can check out all the monthly to bi-monthly auction items in a hour or an extra 30 minutes...so it's not intimidating or overwhelming. The item I bought was definitely not a "steal" but I have seen some item go for a really good price (that I was not personally interested in). The auction also operates in Cleveland and if you are a successful bidder they notify you by email and you can indicate if you want it shipped to you (for which they charge) or if you prefer to pick it up at their Ellsworth Ave./Shadyside storefront. They will let you know when it is there and you can go pick it up. I have found this a diverting and pleasant activity -- most especially in these cooped up COVID times~

They wore masks most of the time and were courteous and respectful. There was an initial charge prior to the first visit and a final payment when the team finished the pricing process. They left the house during the 7-day auction. Once the auction winners had paid for their items and came to my house to pick them up, representatives of Caring Transitions took care of everything. What wasn't sold online was donated or discarded. They left the house totally empty and "broom clean." A week later, I received a check for 65% of the proceeds as was agreed to under contract. Working with this company was easy and pleasant and saved me lots of time and aggravation.

Nope, not how this works. Take some ownership of the few issues that I cited instead of making excuses. I am incredibly careful with one star reviews because I am aware of their impact. If I gave it, then you earned it. If you probably hadn't have come at me sideways and chose to have a conversation about my experience, instead of insinuating that I am uneducated and don't know how an auction works, this probably would have gone differently. Do better. Here's her communications with me, "Dear Darren....... I am writing this message to see if you can remove your negative remark. Obviously, you must not have heard or came to the auction late that we had unadvertised sterling at the auction. SO when that happens, we pull it back if it is not bringing spot price minus 10%........ ALL ADVERTISED ITEMS sell at auction. The consignor was at the auction. Would you want to give away your sterling? Once again if it was advertised I would have had buyers at the auction. I have people who purchase at "spot" Price. Sleaziest probably not a great word, Poor organization I know would never happen, and calling customers by name....... well that is a good thing. Poor organization, you never know what you are bidding on. Yes buyers should go to preview items, but it isn't that simple. Explain what is being bid on. Hold it up for people to see. Auctioneers obviously have favorite customers. Many people were trying to bid, but not being paid attention to. I saw this happening multiple times, they were calling the customer that "won" by name. Probably the sleaziest thing I saw was the auctioneer pull a tray of Sterling silver jewelry from bidding because it wasn't getting the price she wanted. She did no advance planning for this and on the day of the auction was scrambling to find piano movers. By phone she eventually found an individual who promised to do the job the following day. I do not know the name of the person she engaged. They didn't show up when scheduled but arrived the day we were closing on the house sale. They obviously did not know what they were doing and in the process broke a window and destroyed the carpet. To save the house sale we had to establish a large escrow account to cover the replacement of window and carpet. When I informed Darlene of this she denied all responsibility, claiming that I engaged the piano mover. I did not. She found him and engaged him. I accepted her decision. When I suggested she contact her insurance company to settle this in a fair and responsible way, she threatened to sue me for harassment and defamation of character, simply because I asked her to accept responsibility.

Three story house with Four bed, two bath, plus basement. He was good to his word. The job took two days, two forty foot bins, and 2 truckloads of donations. In addition a king size water bed (thanks for taking one for the team, but don't do that again). I wish I had taken photos of the crew. They were so helpful. We were so emotionally attached to my moms things. Bob and Crew were sympathetic and kind. Bob and team Help me and my family get through a rough time. ELS is not cheap.
