The botanical gardens are larger than they look and have many different paths to meander along. They are pet friendly. My pup and I strolled along the paths and took breaks at a couple of the many benches placed about to stop and enjoy the views. They have a nursery with some wonderful looking plants you can buy. There were a couple I wanted but wouldn't make the rest of my road trip. Parking and the park is free. They do accept donations and they also have volunteer opportunities. This was a great spot to spend the morning.

"Hello Farmer Joe, Yesterday I received my order of 7 miniature rose plants. It was sent by priority mail in an USPS Priority Mail cardboard box. The box itself was crushed a little, but the worst was when I opened it. First, I noted 6 plants had been been packed on their sides, with the 7th taped to the top. There was soil & dead leaves all over, spilled inside the box. I had to hold the box in its side to remove the tape without damaging the plants any further. Second, the plants had been taped into place as well as ntogether with packing tape. Besides being extremely difficult to cut & remove the tape from the individual plants, the tape had picked up some of the spilled soil, making for an extremely messy process. Third, only one plant had an identifying label. All others either had no markings, or the name or just one letter written in some type of marker on the tape. So I really could only identify 2 of the plants. Fourth, the plants look pretty beat up, with what looks like dead leaves and buds. The plant that had been taped separately, on top or side of the box, had lost most of its soil, & looks nearly dead. I attached photos that I took after I got about 2/3 of the plants removed. Note that the box is in its side, as the plants had been packed this way. It took me about about 1/2 an house to release the plants. I have never received such poorly packed plants. The box was flimsy, and shoving in a 7th plant shows, to me, either a lack of knowledge or a lack of caring about the plants or the customer. I paid $24.50 for shipping, & expected the plants to be packed in such a way to minimize any damage. I can think of several other ways these could have been packaged, like even separating the individual plants. If any of these plants do not make it, I hope you will issue a refund or provide replacements. Looking forward to hearing from you."

As soon as I saw that, I knew I had to come and check out her place ASAP. With my most garden enthusiastic friend, we went & were in awe of this location. I love finding these off the beaten path places. This is surely it. Get lost on the wrong side of town and keep driving and find a tunnel of foliage and keep driving and you will find a secret garden! This is for sure a secret place and a happy place! The flowers and plants are so lovely, and also have labels and information and just ask Cindy if you have questions. She's so sweet! My friend wanted flowers that attracted butterflies and bees and she told her exactly which ones served that purpose. There are also shaded plants like bromeliads, and there are also plants like succulents, air plants, orchids. One item was the Bamboo Orchid, which is just beautiful! There are also other plants I have never seen - of course, they were a little pricey, but I am definitely going back once a month and treating myself to those items. And when I say pricey I mean $90 - $100. I'm a tightwad and hate to spend money on myself but there are some pretty fabulous plants here - I totally recommend at least trying it out. The lady working there was very helpful and even went and looked something up to provide me with more info. She didn't have to do that so that was really cool of her. Thank you! O'Connell's is now on MY once a month "treat" shopping list, though I'm sure it will be more. And this place is going on my Christmas List. I read that the owner is very helpful - look forward to meeting him someday. Now if I could only find those large plant signs they use to describe the plants. I want to do the same in my garden.

(Mind you we've had a few not survive the frost warnings this last winter, but that happens.)
