Like most people I'd been avoiding it and putting it off as long as possible. When the time came I visited their website and realized that I could have just made an appointment, but there wasn't anything available now before our temporary tags expired so I just set an alarm to go first thing the next day. When I woke up I realized I had so much more to do that day than I thought and checked their website again for appointments, much to my luck they had a spot for that afternoon open up and I booked it! I arrived right on time later that day, checked in via my phone, and was seen within 10 minutes. The appointment took probably five minutes in total and I was out the door. The big learning here was that it pays to make an appointment and I LOVE that you can do that these days. Another pro tip: bring cash or a checkbook with you as they do charge a processing fee on all credit cards.

I've been to 33 states and we definitely have the best sunset so it's spot on representation. Terra was so helpful and thoroughly explained the plate fees because I was set one the new distinctive black plates that are available to the citizens and although it's for a great cause I'm not trying to pay an extra $50 fee every year just to have it. So after talking through it I chose the purple sunset plate and the personalization was included in the one time fee to upgrade. Go on jocogov.org and select 'drop off materials,' then a calendar pops up and you choose your day and time for drop off. They are available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8am - 3pm. This is a free service for Johnson County residents, so just enter your home phone number and your name will pop up. When you drive up, just give them your name and pop your trunk, and they'll unload everything. So easy! I really appreciate all the good signage to get here. Too many places just have an 'entrance' sign and then nothing else. This place is well marked and easy to follow. Big thumbs up!
