I recently visited Johnson Park for disc golf - well, Nate and our friend disc golfed, I just "hiked" the course with them. It was a super sunny and hot spring day, so the park was pretty busy with a lot of people looking to enjoy the sunshine. The parking lot got full after we arrived - not sure if there is overflow parking available. I can't really speak to the difficulty of the course for playing, but it is super hilly and made for a sweaty hike around for a couple of hours for me. There's not a ton of shade as many of the holes are out in a massive field. The areas in the woods are shadier but seems like it would be pretty easy to lose a disc in there. It's not very accessible - some of the holes in the woods are accessed by stairs with no ramping available. The park itself is huge and sprawling, with the majority of people playing disc golf. The course signage was good for 2/3 of the course - a few of the later holes didn't have the "next hole" sign directing you where to go. There are apps you can use that help with this. There is another park of Johnson Park that includes picnic areas, an open shelter, the historic shelter for events, ball diamonds, restrooms, playgrounds, and a winter sledding hill. Great disc golf course for Grand Rapids. There is a lot of elevation changes and if you're not very experienced it can be easy to lose a disc. Lots of different types of holes including a few blind shots. If you play disc golf give it a try asap! read more

Great park with some good trails, a couple great playground sets, and much more that we didn't even get to experience fully.

Frisbee Golf course that is well marked and fairly difficult. 18 holes. It is always pretty busy. There are lots of trees and a good chance to lose one of your discs. Hole 18 is a big hill and pretty fun way to end the course. read more

Really love Johnson Park! Went on my first date here so it holds a special place in my heart. The picnic tables offer a nice place to eat and the trails are very well kept. Offers wooded and open places to walk, bike, skateboard or rollerblade. Also has bathrooms! Really everything you could want in a park. It also includes baseball diamonds, open fields, playground and a disc golf course! Johnson Park does not disappoint. read more

Nice place to read a book on lunch break. Lots of activities and pavilions they have a mountain bike track and are set up for disc golf. parking is ample and there is a winding road that will take you up and into the woods. I do believe its closed for vehicle traffic but it is a beautiful walk in the fall. read more

Great wide paths for walking with some uphill and downhill parts. Leaves can make it a little slick. We enjoyed walking 5 miles. There were only a couple others there during a Friday in November. read more

Two words: Wooden Posts. This is clearly a step down from all the courses with baskets, even though it has the potential to be the best. Large rolling hills offer uphill & downhill shots - the problem is that you're throwing at a 4x4 stuck into the ground. Great for players just beginning or looking to learn about distance off the T or midrange, Johnson will suffice. But if you're a golfer, you will be terribly dissapointed in the course. read more

Beautiful! I wish I lived closer! I like to walk the trail with my son and it's always well kept and safe.

My family loves going to this park. The wife and I find the walking trail challenging, but not overly so. Afterwards the kids get to play soccer or on the play equipment. In the winter we like to come here and go sledding. When covered with snow the hills are big, without being too steep and intimidating for the two younger kids. read more
