I love walking at Millennium Park. I have been exercising here for many years. There are miles and miles of paths to explore. I enjoy mixing up my different routes to go different distances. There are several small lakes, one of which has a beach and other activities such as paddle boats. There are two different entrances to the park, which helps spread visitors out on really busy days like weekends. On the Secchia Meadows side, there is a nice pavillon where my friends had their wedding. I highly recommend Millennium Park for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors, spotting creatures such as deer, turtles, muskrats, eagles, and more. read more

I've got lots of thoughts running through my head, simultaneously, all the time. So when I stepped up to the check-in counter at Millennium Park Boat Rentals, the thoughts in my head were: Wow! It only costs $8 per hour to rent a kayak? Sweet! Wow! These people checking me in and telling me safety information are incredibly young! Will they be able to save me and my family if our kayaks flip over and we fall into the lake? Wow! What a beautiful day! But I wonder how often people fall into the lake. I also wonder how deep the lake is. I also wonder if it's possible to be trapped underwater if your kayak flips over. In the end, I decided to kick it on the sandy beach and wave at my family as they happily paddled on the lake. They had a great time kayaking. I had a great time not kayaking. Like Hot Chocolate says: Everyone's a winner, baby. Kayaks are either single-person or double, and we used one of each. There are very few instructions given, which was a little alarming to me. (You mean you just assume we know what we're doing?!) But fortunately, my family knew what they were doing, so they didn't need much instruction to get themselves out on the water. As you paddle around the lake, you pass the Millennium Park beach and splash pad, plus little islands here and there. There is about four miles of shoreline to explore. I was told that the lake was nice and calm, and that it was a pleasant time on the water. We rented kayaks, but Millennium Park Boat Rentals also offers canoes, paddle boats and stand-up paddle boards to rent. Keep in mind that rentals are seasonal -- this place is only open from Memorial Day-ish to Labor Day-ish. read more

Great park. Tons of trail. Good for walkers, runners, bikers, and roller blazers. Everyone shares nicely. They have poop stations for dog waste and extra bags. Plenty of pavilions and grills and picnic tables. Free access and plenty of parking. They have a beach and splash pad you can pay to use, as well as boat rentals. We did 30 mins on a peddle boat for $6. Pretty affordable. Nice staff. read more

Millennium Park is Grand Rapid's Central Park. Located on the west side of the city, it's the largest park full of trails, meadows, playgrounds and more. I took my four-year-old daughter here for their beach and splash park. Here's our experience: 1) Space: The park itself is huge with public playgrounds outside of the beach area. Once inside the beach area, there are more playgrounds for those who paid the entrance fee. ($4 for adults and $2 for kids.) The beach is along a little lake and long with plenty of space to sit. It's quite shallow making it perfect for smaller kids. Nearby is a splash pad. (It's a little run down, but still fun.) There's also an area to change, restrooms and a snack bar with overpriced food. 2) Price: For an entire day of fun, it's pretty cheap. $4 for adults and $2 for kids over two-years-old for day passes. The price is cheaper if you get longer than a day pass. 3) Service: The staff are friendly and there are plenty of security guards who intend to keep people safe. We went when a storm was rolling in. The park rules state that the splash area and beach close for 30 minutes after the last thunderstorm. Keep that in mind if you go when storms are near. Overall, Millennium Park was an excellent activity with kids. My daughter loved it and we will definitely go back! read more

Easy to find and plenty of parking. All areas seemed clean. Plenty to do. Kids had a great time in the beach area and splash pad. The snack spot had a good selection at fair prices. No charge to park and price to get in was great. Only suggestions are more outside shower off areas and access to shaded areas near/on the beach. read more

We just started coming to Millennium Park this year and have been so impressed. It's entrance fee is cheap and they have so much to offer! The splash pad is perfect for both young and a bit older kids. I see ages 1-14 having a blast in there. The beach portion is my favorite. The water is shallow for quite a ways so the younger kids can wade out a little without me feeling nervous it's going to drop off or get too deep too quick. The sand is clean, the water is warm! They offer food, popsicles, ice cream and shaved ice at the concession stand. We usually stop by for a little treat. The park is really fun for kids of all ages. Even I enjoy playing around on it! They did a great job creating Millenium Park. We have not rented the kayaks yet, but it's on our to-do list! read more

What a great park to hike, jog, bike, picnic and swim. We took the dogs and did a couple loops and it was amazing. The lakes are beautiful and lots of picnic tables and grills to spend your weekend with friends and family. They also have a beach area where you can rent kayaks and paddle boats. The kids area has a splash pad and a playground. The entire park has many restrooms that are well maintained for park standards. This is a big difference compared to Las Vegas parka which are small and not well maintained. read more

Attended an event at the Meadows at Millennium park (which is a different area than the one with the beach) . This pavilion is huge. I would say it can easily seat 200 people comfortably. There is plenty of parking spaces around the venue to accommodate. Around the pavilion has nice walking trails that takes you over the water and alongside it leading to great pictures. Only drawback we experienced was the cleanup from the previous day's event was still ongoing throughout the morning. Our group eventually had to help the moving team to speed it up. We then had to reach out to the park crew again to clean up the residue from food and drinks spilled onto the venue. I would definitely consider renting out this venue myself as the only things that gave this event trouble were caused by the people before us. No complaints towards the park or crew. read more

We were in the GR area for a long weekend of camping. The forecast was super hot and humid and we wanted to avoid the campground pool that day. Millennium park was a gem of a find on Yelp... this was a great place to take the kids to cool off. They had fun swimming in the lake and trying to catch minnows. After their attention son of the lake ran out we moved over to the splash pad. The splash pad was fun, even for the older kids of our crew. We didn't utilize the snack bar or the canoe rentals, but those were an option. This was a fun surprise to find and a nice place to be on a hot summer day. It's a beautiful park in Grand Rapids that has multiple options for bike or walk trails. There are a lot of water bodies, trees all around and full of birds chirping around, so I personally keep my earphones at bay while taking a walk around this place. This is seriously one of the best parks in the state, but especially in the region. Not only is a massive, but I also feel secluded and small as your branch off into various trails in sections of the enormous park. It will probably take all day to bike ride it let alone try to walk it. It's cool that there's a beach part where you can rent kayaks another non-motorized watercraft. This park is super safe as well as there's people walking around, but it's also not crowded to the point where you're bumping elbows are constantly being passed by someone or rollerbladers. read more

Millennium Park is a great getaway if you're looking for nature and outdoorsy activities right in the city! The park is huge with lots of trails, a big splash pad, beach, pavilions, restrooms, playgrounds, basketball court, and volleyball courts! There is a fee (less than $5 per person) to use the splash pad and the beach, and you can even buy a season pass for those activities if you live nearby or will visit often. My boyfriend and I came to Millennium Park on a Sunday afternoon to kayak. You can rent single and double kayaks, stand up paddleboards, rowboats, paddleboats, and canoes! All rentals are $10 or less for the first hour, and every additional hour is $2 less. The double kayak was $10 for the first hour, $8 each additional hour. There is a big clock tower at the beach so you can keep track of time easily even if you don't bring your phone with you. Lifejackets are provided and required. The kayak we got had seen better days; the foot rests were broken or missing in both seats. There is a lot of water to navigate, and with the wind we were going in circles a bit, but it was fun to see some nature and listen to the birds. You can even fish from the boats and off the lake in the park. The kids working at the boathouse were very friendly and polite. We didn't use the beach but it's pretty big, looked clean, and there were lots of families enjoying the water. I would definitely pay $4 to swim there. Parking and use of the trails is free. In the winter you can cross country ski at the park too. You're not very far from downtown but everywhere you look all you can see is trees. It's pretty peaceful and it's nice to walk the trails (the majority of the trails are paved walking paths). One of the nicest county parks I've been to! read more

Beautiful beach and park to enjoy with your family. We drove here from Kalamazoo...we were looking for a different place to enjoy the summer sun and this park came in as a highly recommended by visitors. They were right! The sand is clean, they have a couple of volley ball nets where you can play with family and friends; they have tables close to the entrance where you can sit and relax, eat the food from the concessions or you own. Also if you don't want to be on the sand, you can sit in the grass under the shade of a tree...there's plenty of space. There is a fee to enter the park, alcoholic drinks or grills are not allowed. This is a large and beautiful park in Kent County southwest of Grand Rapids. It is about 1500 acres of prairie, ponds, forest and wetlands with an abundance of trails and pathways. There are plenty of large areas for group picnics. We were there recently when there was a plethora of wildflowers. It's a fairly new development so will mature beautifully over time. It's ideal for biking since there are so many pathways including bridges over ponds. It is free except for those wanting to use the beautiful beach, playground areas or launch a boat. Need a place to kayak? You can rent a single kayak here for $8 for the first hour (the park provides life jackets), $6 for anything after. They also have paddle boards and paddle boats to rent. You can do also do double kayak. There's plenty of water to kayak in an hour, that's for sure. Other things the park offers - a great trail. I did the Hot Cider run here over the fall/winter this past year, and there's definitely more than 3.5 miles of trail. One of Millennium's trail goes to John Ball, the other to White Pine I believe. Basically it connects to whatever trail you'd want to go to. There are two different parking lots, one for beach access and one for strictly trails and a pavilion. The trails themselves are a nice mix of shade and sun; there are maps conveniently located throughout. You can bike, walk, or run AND dogs on leash are allowed on the trails. Trails are paved, with a few non-paved off-shoots. No dogs on the beach. The beach offers volleyball courts and some picnic seating. It's definitely a conveniently located place to head if you can't do a day trip out to Lake Michigan, or are wanting to do something active while staying in GR. read more

For how nice this park is, it's surprising just how inexpensive it is to do anything there. You can rent kayaks by the hour for less than $15 and swimming is something like $5. There is plenty of parking and finding a water fountain or bathroom doesn't require a hike. read more

I've walked all the trails east of Millennium Park back when the deer herds were several and plentiful... i could walk right past the deer and if they did not see my eyeballs glowing from light they would let me pass... took hundreds of pictures so my wife would see what is there and know i was busy walking and not preying on her not being able to walk... she later died in my arms from an infection that would not let go. The park itself has much to offer family re-unions or business parties... go easy on the beer and no one will say anything. The whole park is great to drive in too. read more

So, I wanted to go swimming while in Grand Rapids, but didn't want to drive the 40 miles to the west side of the state to go to a park. I did some searching online and found Millennium Park has a beach available to swim in. Plus, it's only like $4 to get in. Yes! The entire place is clean and well kept. I was impressed with how nice it was, even upon parking. It's located in kind of a weird remote area so I wasn't even sure I was going in the right direction at first. This place also has other stuff besides swimming but that's what I was there to exclusively do. The weather was hot and I needed to cool off in some nice water. The beach area looks like it gets groomed daily, which is awesome. Sand was perfect and the changing rooms were in good working order. They have plenty of areas to change in that can accommodate a few people (moms and their children) all at once. I think they even have showers! They also have lockers, but you have to bring your own lock. There's plenty of beach space to spread out on, so you aren't cramped with other people. Water was clean and refreshing to boot. I enjoyed my time here and got to relax after a long day of walking! What a nice way to cool off. I think you can also do canoe rentals here as well. I didn't feel like it since I was to tired and alone, but if I had company I would totally do this. read more

They are quiet. There are bridges to ride over and a few lakes to go around. There are bathrooms in the main parking area. There are shelters with charcoal grills. Excellent park with a great river-side beach. Good for kids. We did row-boats and kayak rental and the staff is super friendly there. Price is great, too. You pay the price for 1-hour rental upfront and come back and pay for any additional hours depending on how much time you spent on the water. We were originally trying to find a kayak rental near the Lakes but couldn't really find anything. This is on the rivers but there's plenty of water space with good views so you can easily spend an hour rowing or kayaking. They also have canoes and paddle boats which we didn't do. This is a great place to get out of town and go relax. I enjoy walking along the paths that surround the ponds or use the paths as well for riding my bike. The park connects to another park via trails as well as connects you to downtown on the trails. I would say my favorite part is taking my cousin out on the kayaks. They have a separate part in the park where you can rent kayaks, stand up paddle boards and paddle boats. It is reasonably priced and goes by the hour. By the time we paddle out, go around the lake and back we have already hit a hour so it is a decent size lake to have fun on! I have not gone to beach area or the kids water play area but it always seems like everyone is having fun. I want to check out the beach area soon. They do close the gates at sunset so make sure you get your car out before then! read more

We usually make a few visits a year to rent the paddleboats or a canoe and spend a morning doing that. Make sure you get there early in the summer because it gets packed quick! Just a 10 minute drive from downtown will make you feel like you are one with nature! While not free, at $2/kid and $4/adult, the price is hard to beat. read more

Very nice playground area, trails, and restrooms. !! Nice than I expected from a park for sure and I am so pleased I drove out there with my 4 year old. He ADORED the playground. I believe the beach and splashpad are still closed and will open May 1st but am not sure. Didn't go to those areas but did not notice any people in that direction. Nice placement of water fountains for the overheated little ones at the playground and the restrooms were well placed and close enough for urgent business. The restrooms, themselves, were VERY tidy and, in my opinion, smelled of mint for whatever reason. Best park restrooms I have ever used for sure. I did mark down one star, however, for 2 small items I did notice. VERY large seagull presence on the beach (could be seen from playground and were 100+ seagulls) which makes me wonder how the beach is "in season" and the oil pumps across the water marring the. otherwise, wonderful view. Would be great to have some shrubbery (real or fake) in front of all that to keep it from view. Nobody wants to watch their kids playing in water just across from possible water pollutants. The best bargain is to purchase the family plan right after memorial day and use it for free admission all summer. The pass will also give you a discount for boat rentals and at the snack bar. Buy it early and use it all summer. Snack bar counter help can sometimes be a bit sluggish. read more

Had a family reunion here yesterday. Though it was a great location. The park was very accommodating, as there was a major event happening yesterday and they sectioned off a small corner of the parking lot so all of the family had a place to park. We ended staying there the whole day, and the park attendants were great. Also have to say they had great bathrooms. Most parks have gross bathrooms but this one was very clean! read more
