Tons of parking which is nice but overall a small library. There is a children's section as well as…read morea teens section. Lots of computers in the middle and a few tables that are free to study and work on. The shelves seemed quite sparse of books which was a bit concerning, especially in such a prosperous neighborhood like Mount Pleasant. What really irritated me though was the noise. This is the noisiest library I have ever been to. I had 2 gentlemen having a conversation at the table next to me as if in a coffee shop. There was also a tutor having a session with a student at another table. Even the librarians were talking at full volume to people who came in. If I have to put earbuds in and play white noise in a library thats too loud. I know they had small side rooms for such situations. Please please please be more quiet.

I enjoy being able to call and inquire about books via phone and being able to place books on hold ,and drop by the desk to pick them up quickly is very convenient. I think it's nice that if a book is not available they can request it from another library branch. The interior is neat and clean and the customer service is very accommodating. Staff was friendly and likely would have helped if I had let them know what I was doing. After driving down upper King St. and seeing the beautiful mural on the side of the building, we decided to park and stop in. We were so pleasantly suprised! The library itself is rather small, but it certainly has everything you need and more. There are books of myriad genres for all ages groups, computer access, and chairs and tables to sit and read or study or do work. What was so wonderful to me though was all this library had to offer to its community members. Right when you walk in there is a recipe board where you can take a recipe or leave a recipe to share with others. There is a fridge and baskets with actual food and ingredients in it, in case you need a snack or need the ingredients to make a recipe (FOR FREE!) There are resources on how to create a resume, write a cover letter, and how to apply for a job. There's even a binder that has a list of open job offerings in the local area. The resume tip sheet was no joke either. As someone in academia, even I could use this because they had a list of action verbs that were so relevant to applying for a position! The activities for youth were also prevalent within the store. They had a little Kids Cafe they advertised as well as these wonderful book kits (See my pictures for more detail and information). These kits were different themes, whether it be for Manners, Bathing, Lions, Bears, Space, whatever it is you're teaching, with a handful of books related to the theme, related puppets, games, and toys. These are dedicated in memory of Cynthia Hurd and are FREE to check out - a perfect resource for a parent, teacher, Sunday School teacher, etc. We did ask about donating books, DVDs, games, etc., and the librarian told us that for all Charleston County libraries, donations go to the Friends of the Library and not directly to the library. They are then sold and then the money comes back indirectly. In the future, this is something I am definitely going to do as I clean out old books, DVDs, and board games or puzzles. This is the newest, at least to my knowledge, of all of the Charleston County Library buildings…read more This replaces an old dark brick building that stood there for many years and was elevated such that it required you to go up a set of stairs. This new building however is modern, airy and enough windows high up to let in natural light and thus give warmth to the building and its inhabitants. I was there not to check out any books but went straight to the community room where probably 100 people could sit although we probably had 80 people for the safe sanctuary for religious organizations regarding terrorism and loan attackers. The three and a half hours that we all were there were in a comfortable room with a large pull-down screen where laptop computers could cast slides and information up on the large screen. It was an informative meeting made even more special by the wonderful building of this Library location.
